What sandwhich shop chain do you turn to when the mood hits?
Subway
Quiznos Blimpies Firehouse Subs McAlisters Deli Charleys Jasons Deli Einstien Bros Jersey Mikes Schlotzsky’s Jimmy Johns Panera Bread Other.... Who do ya go with? What sammy do you roll with? |
Schlotzskys
|
Planet Sub.
I can't do it very often. Who knew a simple sub sandwich could have so many calories? I guess that's why they're so awesome. |
Whatever is farthest away from subway.
|
If I don't hit up any local Italian deli's I'll stop by Jimmy Johns.
|
Did you know that vBulletin allows you to make a poll?
|
None of that crap.
When I want a sandwich, I go to the Manhattan Deli on ingersol in Des Moines or B&B Grocery on the East Side. |
Subway it is the only one around where I live.
|
None of the above. As I just like my sammiches wiff bread and meat, no sauce, mayonnaise or any of that, it's difficult for me to justify buying a sandwich away from home, when I can just as easily make it myself.
|
For chains I prefer Jason's Deli. I think they make pretty good sandwiches. But a sandwich shop is different than a sub shop, really.
If you live in the northeast a great chain sub is at Wegmans. Their subs are copied from Dibella's Subs in Rochester. |
Being on the road, unfortunately it's Subway.
Jimmy Johns is my favorite. |
Had firehouse last night for the second time.
Disappointed, though they aren't ****ing around with their 12 inch specialty subs. |

Love Jersey Mikes hot subs.

I thought about trying Firehouse until they ran that spot in KC about their "slow smoked Texas brisket" sandwich. I don't expect them to change up a commercial just for an individual market, but it was enough for me to be like **** you.
|
I don't understand why people eat at sandwich shops. If I'm going to eat at home and don't want to go to any work, I make a sandwich. I go to restaurants for stuff that I can't make it home in under thirty seconds.
|
Firehouse is the shit. I get the Turkey Bacon Ranch, but the Meatball and Brisket are damn good too. I used to be a Goodcents guy, but Firehouse wins hands down.

Panera but I only order soup or salad because I can't eat wheat. Love Panera.
Only subway if I can bring it home and put on my own allergy-free bread. |

Never heard of a bread allergy. Is it wheat, flour, maybe yeast? |

None of the above.
I will occasionally hit up a local shop that makes a nice gluten free sandwich, though. |

Planet Sub.
Jimmy John's is whole new levels of SUCK! |
I'm not a sandwich guy. The only sandwich I really like are meatball subs, but even then I have to be in the right mood.
If I have to, Firehouse is good. But my meatball subs are better than any of them. |
Publix

Just had a subway and it came out the other end 4 seconds after the last bite. No wonder Jared is skinny as ****.

Jimmy Johns is awful

Firehouse Subs
pastrami and corned beef; provolone, thousand Island dressing, steamed sammich. I think it's called the New York steamer. fantastic. |
Jason's Deli
Panera Planet Sub McAlister's Mr.Goodcents everything else is crap IMO. |
Planet Sub - Buffalo Sandwich with Bleu Cheese. This is a treat.
Subway - close to work, usually try to get their $5 special JJ - when I am on the go. Usually get the hunters club. |
Planet Sub or Goodcents. Haven't tried the Firehouse yet.
Goodcents has some surprisingly good Broccoli and Cheese soup, if that's more of your thing. Yummy stuff. |
No idea if it's a chain ... but Portland has 2 sub shops named Potbelly's and WOW ... Extremely Tasty. All toasted and all $$

This. We have a local joint called Zingerman's which people go crazy for even the POTUS has eaten there. I just don't understand why people would pay upwards of $10 or more for a cold cut sammy. Zingerman's was even featured in the "5-year engagement" with Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. Folks give me the stink eye when I say it overrated. |
I'm a goodcents fan. I'd like to try some of the restaurants listed here.
|
On a side note about Jared, I met him on the street before the Colts smoked the CHIEFS in the Wild Card the season Herm ran LJ into the ground. On a side note to the side note I ran into the Manning family(Peyton, wife, Archie, Olivia) coming out of St. Elmo's after the game. I was still wearing my Hali jersey and offered them my congrats. I took the high road.

Jimmy Johns doesn't carry S&P packets - it's reeruned - some folks like to season their sandwiches.
Anyway - basically any of those except Subway - but I'll take Subway before I don't eat. I just never ELECT to go there. |
I've been to all but Charley's.

you can get a big'ol sammich chips and a drink at Firehouse for like $7-8. thereabouts. I think it's priced just right.

People. Think about what it would cost to make a sub at any one of these places if you bought the ingredients at a grocery store. $10 is not unreasonable.
|
YEARS ago there used to be a deli in Blue Springs called 'Country Deli' - they served smoked slice turkey sandwiches on these really nice Kaisers w/ Poppy or Onion. They melted a thick slice of swiss (I think cheese slice width is crucial here) and IIRC they dressed it w/ mayo, mustard shaved lettuce and slivered onions - For some reason they didn't make it - But the sandwiches they served in that standard sheet of wax paper and a large garlic pickle - were about the best sammys I've eaten, ever.
Pretty sure - Jennifer (my sister) went to High School w/ the owner's son. |
KC Area, it's usually Lenny's subs in Lenexa or Mr. Goodcents
In the SD area you have to try Hungry Bears subs, excellent |
How an authentic New York deli sandwich? I haven't had one, but want to try one. If I ever take trip to New York I'll be stopping at the famous delis and pizzerias.

Which Wich is decent. Good grocery or convenience store chains (Publix, Wawa) are better than decent.

I find myself gravitating towards Mr. Goodcents; but your experience will depend entirely on the franchisee. Some shave their meat and cheese so thin you could read through it to save an extra buck. That's annoying.
Jimmy John's is a decent option. Those are the two closest chains to me; and the ones I frequent the most. |

I really need to vacation to New York to see the Freedom Tower and hit up some of the famous restaurants.
