Toyota On Field Ad will piss everyone off

I can't believe this shit is not only on the field, but visible DURING PLAYS. JFC

mdchiefsfan 08-08-2014 07:02 AM

Smh. That is awful.

Bearcat 08-08-2014 07:57 AM

Now I'm pumped for the next play and want to buy a Toyota.

Strongside 08-08-2014 08:01 AM

Look, I work in advertising. Sometimes I wonder what dipshit strategist is selling these ideas to his clients and to the NFL. There's such a thing as NEGATIVE brand recognition, and this is a textbook example. It's one thing if you pay a network/league to arrange to have the announcers say "And now the offense has entered the red zone, brought to you by Toyota." But putting it on the field is just going to piss people off and create a distaste for your brand and your advertising, no matter where it appears from then on.

This is just stupid.

You looking for copywriters?

That's terrible!

I don't think that is actually on the field.

My hopes is this is just a test run. Once they get significant negative blowback, they"ll probably go another way. At least in the short term.

gblowfish 08-08-2014 09:06 AM

I guess that's better than the "Tampax Red Zone."

Rain Man 08-08-2014 09:22 AM

I noted that in the game thread. It was the worst thing I've ever seen. I was horrified and angry. I now hate Toyota and will never buy one of their vehicles again.

It's ok. Apricot isn't one of their main colors anyways.

I wouldn't buy one of their cars now even if it was apricot. They have desecrated my sport. It's 1937 China all over again.

Bl00dyBizkitz 08-08-2014 09:33 AM

You might as well tattoo the whole field with ads just like the NASCAR jumpsuits. This is ridiculous.

What if it was pitched to the NFL first? Still throwing out the baby?

Katipan 08-08-2014 09:35 AM

FYI my daddy is a big deal with Nissan. So **** Toyota. I'm just sayin... :P

Everyone involved needs to be flogged. If it was your idea ... flogging. If you approved it ... flogging. If you designed the logo ... flogging. If you answer the phones at the company that built the equipment that produced the image ... flogging. If you're the freshman English teacher at the college of the person who had the idea ... flogging.

This is the worst idea ever. It's worse than the WKRP turkey drop.

Do you ever get to offer any guidance on car colors? Because I have some ideas that can make you look really good.

He's not quite to the point where he gets to help pick colors. But they do pick him up in a private jet from time to time.

Wouldn't matter anyways. Love him, lots, ok? But he's very much in control of any room he's in. He still orders food at restaurants for my mother and me. We sit passively. That guy.

My opinion would be met with the condescending smile bestowed on a younger woman. I may even get a pat on the head. I've never had penis envy. I like being a girl. But there are moments when I wonder what my life would have been like the other way.

You can always freelance. If you can put together a good book of lines/body copy you can work for anyone. I get books sent to me all the time by guys with little to no experience. Some of them are good enough that we actually use them.

If you can write you can write. A degree and experience just makes it easier to get your foot in the door. My ECD has no degree. Got his job by showing off ads he'd written for the Thrifty Nickel to DDB in something like 1975. He's a badass and he has no formal education.

I lost the KFC account(local coupons) due to corporate raising franchise advertising fees to help sponsor Thursday Night Football on NFL Network a couple of years ago.

So there I am watching the pregame and the Colonel's face is on both sides of the panel,go to commercial and the KFC ad is for a weekend special not even valid on Thursdays. :spock:

cosmo20002 08-08-2014 10:11 AM

I haven't read this thread or OP, but just wanted to let everyone know that I had a sudden urge to test drive a Toyota last night and I now own a sweet new Camry.

There's a blast from the past my first real advertising job was with Thrifty Nickel in 1984

That's embarrassing both as an NFL fan and as the owner of a Toyota Tundra. I'm driving the mercury to work this evening.

I wrote ads for Richard Head Toyota in Columbia in the 1980's. I wrote "Get a Dick Head Deal!"

They didn't buy it.

Not sure why....

I just heard something(didn't catch in detail) on 610 sports that some stadium was adding vibrating seats for when a big hit takes place. :spock:

Demonpenz 08-08-2014 11:12 AM

I just put on some pink floyd when a big hit takes place ;)

I can't believe how Mark Donovan loves the sound of his own voice. Jeez...

the Chiefs have cornered the market on that one.

BigRedChief 08-09-2014 08:45 AM

Kieth Olberman did a very funny bit on the on the field advertising.

I would bet that the blowback keeps this from happening. I know that I would be calling Toyota if they put that ghastly crap across the Arrowhead turf. I'm sure they would be flooded with calls.

All I could find was that the new Falcons stadium "might" include these. Sounds like it's just a concept. Also of note, a fantasy football lounge. Just a bigger take on your own gameroom. :)

Heh....it' probably Seattle...trying to pump even more fake crowd noise to retain their tainted "loudest stadium" trophy!

Really to rule out the death penalty in these cases only encourages more sports crimes like these. The prosecutors need the death penalty as a deterrent. Execute a couple NFL marketing people at halftime of the Super Bowl would be great marketing in and of itself.

TribalElder 08-09-2014 10:09 AM

The PapaJohns Better Pizza zone

Expect it during the donkey playoffs

JoeyChuckles 08-09-2014 11:24 AM

Recent Chiefs teams generally suck in the RedZone, so maybe we will fare better in the Toyota Zone.

That's funny. I could barely make out a word he said. How did such a soft spoken mush mouth become the president of a professional football team? He was drowned out by ambient crowd noise at a preseason game.

Probably an effort to attract new female fans to the stadium.
