Got a visit from Child Welfare services last Friday.
My wife and I both work evenings. When we arrived home from work Friday night, there was a letter on the door saying that Child welfare URGENTLY needed to meet with us. This was extremely odd. We have one son, that is 2 1/2 years old, and I consider him to be taken care of very well. I immediately went into panic mode, as I assume a lot of parents would. I do spank the kid when necessary and use time out with it. Never hard spankings, though. Just enough to get the message through.
So, I ask my wife if he's had any weird bruises(I assume all young kids get a lot of bruises because kids are a bit reckless on their own). She say no. I next start to worry if some random weirdo driving by didn't like something I was doing in the yard with the kid. Our driveway is off of a highway, but the house sits back about 200 yards. He is outside working with me a lot. He loves riding the mower, so we do that quite often. Sometimes it's spur of the moment, so he's not always wearing his ear protection. We also check the mail with the mower which requires driving right up to the highway. I always make sure there's not even any cars in sight though, so that there's no danger. Anyways, I started nit picking stuff like that to see if there was any way some random asshole reported us as they drove by. I also worried that maybe the babysitter was under investigation. Maybe he was being harmed there. Lots of crazy shit went through my head. Like I said, we got this notice on Friday night. Their offices are closed until Monday. We were left to worry about this all weekend. I called them first thing this morning. The lady who left the note was out in the field, and she didn't call back until 1:30 this afternoon. She casually explained to me that they put the notice on the wrong house. I was relieved and pissed off all at the same time. I calmly explained to her the worry that note caused and that maybe they should create a policy of not leaving those kinds of notes on the doors of people on Friday afternoons if they have yet to have any initial contact with those people. If it's someone who already knows there is an investigation going, then fine, leave a notice if you want. But leaving us that note left us on the dark and worrying for 72 hours. Am I crazy for suggesting that? |

Sounds like you are a little whiner, whining about nothing. Be a man and laugh it off.
|
you spank your 2 1/2 yr old????
|
I'd be pissed too. I'm the type of guy who assumes the worst when I receive stuff like that. I'd probably be spending the entire weekend assuming that my kid called 911 and told the dispatcher that I was mushroom stamping him as punishment.

this couldn't go in the royals GDT?

And like I said, I calmly explained it to the lady. It wasn't in a whiney tone or full of rage. |

As soon as they informed you of their mistake, you should have been slugging back a beer whilst your woman pleasured you orally. Instead you turned into a woman. |

Our daughter was in 1st or 2nd grade, can't remember.
She had a bruise on her arm that none of us knew where she got. She showed it to me & I asked her if it hurt. She adamantly said NO. So being the ornery person I am I pushed on it a little & asked if it hurt now. :hmmm: Anyhoots she went to school & in the process of telling her teacher it was understood that I was responsible. It wasn't long & we got the dreaded call from Child Protective Services. Embarrassed & pissed at the same time. She laughed it off & I learned a valuable lesson. _________________________________________ I'm a worry wart anyways so if I got a letter on a Friday afternoon, I'd be a nutcase by Sunday. That's messed up. I feel you were in the right to say what you did...absolutely. :thumb: |

Side note: through this situation, I found out my mom had been reported for abuse twice while my sister and I were very young. It was by her ex - husband though and the cases went nowhere. |

Meh...it's old hat, now. |
Speaking of nightmare CPS incidents, the following happened to some good friends of mine:
First of all: this couple have their shit together. They're great, compassionate parents with good jobs. They have a special needs son who is their world and they're extremely active in being activists for him and making sure that he has a great life. They also have two other children. So here's what happened. Their special needs son has an iPad that is, unknowingly to them, set up with their imessaging because it's on their apple account. He's at school working with the iPad. The couple are texting back and forth on their phones using imessage. They're discussing their marijuana useage in texts and actually talking about ceasing smoking marijuana altogether. Their son's paraprofessional sees the messages on the iPad (due to the fact it's synced, unbeknowest to them, to their iMessaging) and turns it over to CPS. Their lives have been a living hell for the last 6 months as a result of the incident. They're actually moving back here because of it as their lives in the State in which they live have been irreparably damaged as a result. I don't really hold the paraprofessional to blame, as s/he is a mandated reporter, but damn... be careful with your iMessaging and any of your children's devices which might be linked into your app store account. |

Obvious who in this thread has kids, and who don't.
This would ruin my entire weekend, and have my woman frantic until we spoke to them. |
Can marijuana users really be responsible parents, though?
What if you're high as **** and the kid needs to go to the hospital? |

Imagine if some 3rd party was privy to all the texts between you and your spouse? Jeezus. |

Yeah, if you don't want to bail out your 16 year old, you sometimes spank your 2-3yr old. |

Thankfully the doctor continued to ask questions as to how/why and such and it was funny after that. Right after the question though, it was certainly a "Oh shit" moment. |

You really have to be careful with your kids these days. Don't do ANYTHING that could be misconstrued as violent or show a glimpse of your home life being anything other than sunshine and rainbows.
People go from 0-snitch real quick. Real ****ing quick. |

One of the many gestapo gubbment agencies that is way out of hand and going to far. It started off with good objectives but has turned into a monster. That would worry the shit out of me for sure.

And furthermore. Please spank your kids. Now, understand the difference between BEAT, and spank.
I will pop my son on the ass ONCE, if he is not doing what he needs to be doing. he gets the message, and that is that. They have to learn discipline, and with a limited communication skill set, the way you communicate is with corrective action. Time outs don't work. |

How sad is that? |

Luckily enough for us, Clay will never have the opportunity to procreate. So he will never understand what being a parent is. but on the bright side, we don't have to worry about him spreading his stupidity further. win some lose some. |

Disciplining your child is one of the hardest things a parent can do, glad mine is grown now. I often look back and wonder, if as a parent, did I do right or wrong? I must have done okay, his heart is much kinder than mine and is well adjusted. Parenting doesn't come with an instruction manual.

It's time to come clean...I made the phone call.
I hate to see a kid in red and yellow. ;) |

What they did is a wonderful management tool. Used to be my favorite when dealing with problem employees
|
They should send them to the Eric Hosmer, he isn't hitting anyone.
|
So your neighbor is a pedo?
|
I'm going to side with Fly on this. That's bullshit what they did and flat irresponsible. Years ago our 4 year old walked outside our home after I took te dog for a walk. Got back 10min later and cop cars were kn my drive and they said a neighbor brought him back home and called them. We had to do 6 weekly sessions with child services for it. And it only stopped when I finally sacked up and told the case worker I was going to get an attorney if it continued. Closed the next day.
