John Lynch on Alex Smith
John Lynch is half of what is considered to be one of the up-and-coming broadcast tandems in the NFL. Partnered with play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt, the potential Pro Football Hall of Fame safety is an analyst for Fox Sports. Known as one of the game's hardest hitters during his playing days, Lynch has drawn accolades for his work in the booth. But something the Stanford graduate said during Sunday night's exhibition game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers about Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith sounded like something … err … a Stanford graduate might not say.
"The guy is up there with the Peyton Mannings, the Drew Brees … " The nine-time Pro Bowler mentioned Smith in the same breath as the five-time NFL MVP and author of four of the eight 5,000-yard seasons in NFL history when talking about the 2005 No. 1 pick's current contract status. His point was that Smith is every bit as valuable to his team as Manning is to the Denver Broncos and Brees is to the New Orleans Saints. And that may very well be true. Smith has played well the last three seasons and probably deserves a very large raise. But saying that a quarterback who owns one career playoff victory is "up there" with two established players at the position who each have a Super Bowl title on their resume is a little excessive. |
I heard that. I laughed a bit.

Roid rage.

Plus arm. After he said that everything he said was fluent reerun gibberish.
And I love Alex. |
I hope the pair do not broadcast another Chiefs game-Ever!
|
He should get checked for CTE

If you are going to quote a guy you might want to provide the whole quote and context. They showed Alex's career win percentage and then he followed it up by stating when you compare his with those of Manning and Brees he in in their class. It really isn't a matter of subjective interpretation, merely comparing stats.

Would rather listen to Deberg call a game.

All of the stuff about Alex Smith aside, does anybody actually LIKE listening to Lynch.
I heard him 2 or 3 times last year and he was ****ing AWFUL. |
What I found hilarious, is that he kept going on and on about Alex Smith during the first half, how Smith absolutely deserved a huge payday because he was on par with Peyton and Drew... Then they showed Cam Newton's 2013 stats compared to Smith's, and Cam beat Smith in every category. Then Cam turned it on during the game and punked Smith's performance. No more Alex talk.....

He's on Condon's payroll.

He's trying to convince Dorsey that Smiff is worth big money and to get it done ASAP! ROFL

He's also a former Bronco. |
That whole broadcast was a paid advertisement it seemed. It was so scripted except for a few good observations right after plays, like Moss calling out the WR blocking that was missing for Thomas at the goal line. But really any conversation that had graphics to go with it was scripted and seemed totally unnatural. Hopefully they can get better too. Randy Moss was decent, except for answering the who does he enjoy watching at WR these days question with basically the three top WR in football. Way to have some insight Randy!

Cam is far more playful and slaps more man ass too. |

I think Lynch is good. I like him. He beats the shit out of Fouts and several others imo.

FOX certainly likes that announcer team. I think they started as the number 4/5 crew last year, but they liked them enough they gave them a playoff game over the higher ranked teams. Last night they gave them a national preseason game.

He may be up there in terms of wins with Peyton and Brees, but Alex's contributions in those wins dont even come close. Do you think that if Brees or Peyton were on the 9ers that they wouldn't have multiple rings by now? |

I ****ing hate John Lynch ! He was a cheap shot bastard. I rank him right there with Romanaski when it comes to pricks.

I was just pointing out what Lynch was referencing when he made the comment. |

Lynch's dresspants were sauteed in ball butter. My favorite was the first drive in which Smith checked down a few passes and handed it off to Knile Davis, leading to the Succop 54 yard field goal. When going to commercial, Lynch faded out by saying "a great start so far for Smith". How the heck was that a great start bro?
|
Me and a buddy were watching the game together. At the same time we went WTF, did we just hear that correctly, WTF did he say. Rewind. Holy shit moment. ****ing idiot.
|
My favorite line, which I heard in passing, was, "well who else are you going to get"?!
Gee, I don't know...what do OTHER teams who don't walk around with their heads up their asses do, slick? ****ing stupid. |

I've never seen a fanbase pissed off because the broadcaster was praising their quarterback before.
This place is ****ing amazing. |

A good 30% of the detractors hate him because he's a former Bronco, not because of what he said about Smith. Another 30% think he's a terrible broadcaster period and it has nothing to do with Smith. |

You can tell me Alex Smith wins games and is a good QB. Check the plus arm and HOF QB comparisons bullshit at the door. |

You're completely overreacting. |
There's actually 3 posts in this entire thread that directly correlate disdain for Lynch and disdain for Alex Smith.
THREE. And they're made by 3 people that say these things about Smith in nearly every other Alex Smith thread ever made. |

You don't move up the TV ranks by being critical. Praise all and hype the greats higher still.
Everybody watching wants fantasy points from their guys. And don't piss off the fans of a team. |
