In many ways, this could the final nail in our Central Division Title hopes. We are, for all intents and purposes, down 2 games to the Tigers. I see a glimmer of hope that we could take 2 of 3 from DET. But, if you are down 3 games going into the Tigers series, we are done. Detroit is going to sweep Minny. Book it. Unlike us, they aren't shitting their pants when the season is on the line, and their Manager isn't tinkering with their players, because it wouldn't be fair to not use Crowsy in the 6th............

I watched Ned's press conference last night. You could tell he knew he made a mistake by having Crow pitch It would've been nice if he flat-out admitted it, but he always protects his players and I can respect that to an extent. It's unfortunate that it cost us the division.

If Ned gets stuck in traffic, we win.

Or gets run off the road by a red 2014 Chevy Malibu.

We lost the division back in late Aug. when we could not get a 6 or 7 game lead on Detroit before rosters expanded so they could bolster their bull pen. Detroit is more that capable of going on a double digit win streak.

At this point I just want a playoff spot this year so next season may be a little easier to swallow should Shields rejoin Price and become a Tiger next year.

I will worry about Detroit if we are less than two games back when we start our series against them. For now, I will continue my assumption that the division is essentially beyond reach.

That being said, in the next four days we have three against the White Sox while the Mariners have four against the Angels. This is our chance to put some breathing room between us and the Mariners which we desperately need.

And in Ned's mind, he's doing what the stat-nerds want him to do: SEE, I'M USING NUMBERS!!!

That's probably a smart perspective to have. One could assume Detroit is going to win almost all of their remaining games. And we can't beat em, so probably more realistic to set sights on the WC

I assume they win 8 more games. If two of those are against the Royals, which is a good chance the way we play them, then winning the division would be nearly impossible.

If they win 8 games we need to find 10 wins in the remaining 14 games, which includes the suspended game. I can't see that happening.
