Here Comes Jameis

Let's say he falls, Manziel-style.

Do you take him with the Chiefs pick?

Jameis Winston expected to enter NFL Draft, according to report
Amid two investigations, the Florida State quarterback will reportedly go pro after the season.

It should come as no surprise, but Florida State redshirt sophomore quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to enter the 2015 NFL Draft. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that "it has a become a certainty" that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner will go pro after the season.

Winston is currently being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in 2012, for which he was never charged, and whether or not he sold autographs. The report also says that Winston won’t drop out of FSU. According to La Canfora, Winston has "an adversarial relationship" with members of the university, not including Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Last week, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that Winston is falling on draft boards because of those off-field issues. Some general managers told Glazer that they’re deciding whether or not they’d even want Winston on their team. In other words, not on their draft boards at all.

If Winston doesn’t get in trouble before the draft, he should be a high first round pick. He showed why in a 31-27 comeback win against Notre Dame.

During the offseason, Tomahawk Nation examined the reasons that Winston might consider making the leap to the NFL after this season, including avoiding more scrutiny that would surely come with one more year in school.

Against Notre Dame, Winston was 23-of-31 passing for 273 yards and a touchdown. On the season, he’s completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 1,878 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He was suspended for Florida State’s game against Clemson for making controversial remarks on campus.

Jameis Winston falling on NFL Draft boards, according to report
The NFL has taken notice of the significant legal troubles surrounding FSU's star quarterback.

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner and college football's most famous accused rapist, may be worrying some potential future employers. On Fox Sports' Sunday NFL coverage, Jay Glazer reported that Winston is falling on some NFL teams' draft boards.

"Every general manager I talked to this week said, 'we are either dropping Jameis Winston down, or we really have to consider whether we want him in our locker room,'" Glazer said in the on-camera report. Here's more:

Additionally, due to possible rule changes involving sanctions against teams, franchises that employ players with off-field issues could have draft picks taken away, further diminishing the prospects for rookies-to-be like Winston.

Glazer's report comes in the wake of Friday's exclusive report by FOX Sports that revealed a cover-up by the university and local police. Florida State officials late on Friday decided to bypass the normal process for conducting a student-code-of-conduct investigation in Winston's case and will send the case to an independent arbiter.
This news comes on the heels of a report by Sports Illustrated that suggests Winston may need to drop out of Florida State in order to avoid legal scrutiny that may lead to sexual assault charges from the alleged incident in 2012. Winston was also named several times in The New York Times' extensive report on seemingly preferential treatment for Florida State football players by Tallahassee law enforcement.

Florida State's only measure of punishment against Winston thus far is to remove him for one game in Week 3 after he got on a table in a crowded campus cafeteria and yelled "fuck her right in the p****" so everybody could hear him.

A Title IX investigation into Florida State's handling of Winston's behavior is ongoing. He is still active with the team as the starting quarterback.

This is a guy you take completely off your board, IMO

Dave Lane 10-20-2014 06:32 AM

No he's a guy you take a shot at in the late 2nd early 3rd and see if Andy can straighten him out.

spanky 52 10-20-2014 07:43 AM

What Cochise said. Don't want any part of him.

Bingo.

You know between Clark, Andy, and John, that they are going to almost COMPLETELY remove him from possibility of selection. In fact, I can guarantee you we don't take him if he's available in the first 3 rounds. That being said, you better believe Dorsey's going to be on the phone with guys if he falls to us, trying to wheel and deal.

the Talking Can 10-20-2014 08:09 AM

how is he any different than that rapist rothlessburger?

no one gives a shit that he spends his offseasons finding women to sexually assualt

This. POS human being. Don't want him on the team.

Saccopoo 10-20-2014 06:36 PM

He has entitlement/sociopathic tendencies similar to Rothlisberger.

And I don't think he translates that well to the pros.

There would be much better ways to spend a high draft pick, especially for this team.

Halfcan 10-20-2014 06:41 PM

Faders are licking their chops..

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-20-2014 07:16 PM

Character matters. I want no part of that guy.

ChiefsCountry 10-20-2014 07:36 PM

I could see the Rams or Titans as fits for Winston. Fisher taken chances on guys with character problems. If Bud Adams was alive, Winston for Titans would be a no brainer. Wistenhunt could handle him.

The Franchise 10-20-2014 07:47 PM

Not only no but **** no.

O.city 10-20-2014 07:49 PM

Would be a. Good fit for the texans

Andy has the QB of his dreams, and Dorsey already has the monkey of not drafting QB's off his back with Murray.

They will avoid the QB position in the draft for a couple years.

I don't buy that. Like Direkshun will tell you, the QB position is important, and his reason for keeping Chase next year, is the same reason I think we'll continue drafting QB's in the middle round, to have that "passable" talent there should something happen to Andy's dream QB, and being able to sign a 3rd or 4th round guy to his rookie contract to about the same value it costs us to keep Chase is a big improvement, though an unnoticed one on the talent level. Considering all the contracts we need to sign in the next two years though, it wouldn't hurt us to draft another QB if he fits the system, in those later rounds if we think he's talented enough to unseat Chase, or if we believe Bray or Murray is talented enough and we just need more talent there for the sake of competition. If Murray ends up being the guy though, and they are confident he's the better option over Chase, I could see us not drafting a QB for a while, sure.

kccrow 10-23-2014 07:50 PM

Winston has some talent on the football field, but I would have rather had Johnny Football off the field than Winston. We'll see what happens with that 3rd party and the rape case first. After that, its the NCAA and the jersey sales... Then will come whether or not Winston is worth even bothering with.

I agree. They have given him a lot of money and they traded two 2nd rounds for him. Makes no sense (even if i would love to see Winston as a Chief). He even has not entered his first year of the new contract yet. Maybe next year if he has a bad season but now it is too early.
