It was an all around ****ing, but we are not hitting the ball. Let's hope we can start swinging the bats again.

Yeah, the Giants set the tone early and took any chance of getting momentum away with fantastic defense in the first inning. Anxiety took over for the Royals hitters after that point. Let's hope they get back to feeling lax at the plate and doing what they do best.

Old Dog 10-22-2014 07:16 AM

Told folks at work yesterday we were going to lose last night (though I thought it would be something like 4-2) and not to get all pissy when it happened. Anyone who thought Bumgarner was gonna get taken to the woodshed was either fooling themselves or didn't have a clue.
Still thinking Royals take the series in 6, with another loss in game 5.

Kidd Lex 10-22-2014 07:29 AM

Just think, had we only stolen that base we might be in the drivers seat and up 1-0 in the series. #yosted

Mr. Flopnuts 10-22-2014 07:36 AM

I've said more than once I was scared to death of this team losing even 1 game. Now that it's happened, I'm not. I think we'll be just fine. In fact, I'm way more concerned with this ****ing hangover I have and whether or not it's going to go away in time for the 1st pitch tonight. Definitely taking the day off from the Crown. Jesus...

Great Expectations 10-22-2014 07:41 AM

We hit Bumgardner pretty hard, especailly early. His strikeouts with runners in scoring position and us hitting the ball hard right at people sucked. I thought Hoz hit a homer or at least a gapper early with Cain on, Butler drove the ball well. We just didn't find the holes last night. The type of contact we made usually gets us 3-4 runs through 7 innings.

We need Ventura to have a strong outing tonight. If he can go 6 while giving up 2 or maybe 3 runs I like our chances against Peavy. So far in the postseason having our #1 starter getting shelled hasn't hurt our MOJO too much, but we've been carrying him with the bats.

Yep, I thought Hosmer's shot was an easy double. Blanco showed Cain-like range getting to it.

Blanco was playing deep and shaded into the gap. That's how he got to that ball.

They squared him up quite a bit (for Bumgarner) early in the game, just didn't find a gap or string them together.

I thought Hosmer had taken him out in the first (and he would have, had he gotten a fraction of an inch further under the ball... probably would have taken him to the fountains).

That one ended in the bottom 3rd/top 4th, when the Royals missed a chance to cut into the 3-0 lead and the Giants tacked on a few runs to blow it wide open.

Still like KC's chances in the next 3 games. Hopefully, Ventura is healthy and ready to go tonight. Need a big start from him!

Every time Ventura has been put in a spot where the Royals need an ACE-like performance out of him in the second half, he has responded. I think he will tonight, as long as he's healthy.

That's why I'm not worried about Shields walking (as long as Ventura is healthy next year). I think the kid has already shown he can handle any moment.

Strongside 10-22-2014 09:24 AM

First thing I'll look for tonight is how Ventura is carrying himself on the mound. Is he showing us that almost cocky swagger he has? If so - he'll do just fine tonight.

TLO 10-22-2014 09:34 AM

Not to harp on the Shields thing.... but have you seen his numbers this postseason? For his career in the postseason?

Just listening to Petro on 810, he says it's a fact that Duffy isnt healthy, but if he can give you 3 innings in Game 5, that has to be considered.

Yeah. He won the Rays first playoff game ever in 2008 and pitched pretty well (though a little luckily) in his WS start against the Phillies. But other than that, his postseason numbers are pretty bad.

I think he looks tired. Dude logs a shit ton of innings, and I'm guessing it has taken its toll on him. He'll be on a very short leash if there is a game 5.

This, I agree with. Yesterday, I did not.

Reaper16 10-22-2014 10:54 AM

I'm optimistic about Ventura tonight. The Giants' heart of the order looks to crush fastballs & they are some of the best in MLB this season at hitting 95mph+ fastballs, so Ventura can't rely on simply dialing it up to get a strikeout. But I'm optimistic.

I am sure they are figuring in the must win mentality the Royals must have right now as well. You don't want to have to win 4 out of 5 with 3 of those being in SF and most likely facing Madbum 2 more times.

If Bochy was going to pitch Bumgarner on short rest in Game 4, doesn't he pull him up by 7, with Bumgarner's PC sitting at 96 or whatever it was entering that inning? I believe Vogelsong has already been announced as the Game 4 starter.

That would put Bumgarner in as the Game 5 starter in San Francisco, again matching up against Shields, and on just two days rest for a potential Game 7. He probably is available out of the pen in that game, but not to start it.

MadBum isn't making two more starts unless Bochy slides Vogelsong out for Game 4.

I think that is a good take. The pen needs work. I think Bochy will have Voggy on a short leash. It will be fun to watch.

I'm out of here, bu had to post this first, pardon me for a somewhat lengthy post:

My son just called and a client he's worked with for some time came in and asked if he was a Royals fan.
Son: Sure
Client: You busy this evening?
Son: Nothing outside of watching the game
Client: Oh, you going?
Son: Laughed and said, "I wish"
Client gave him a pair of tickets in section 307 and said: "Have a good time"

Fast forward a couple of minutes
Son called me and asked if I could come pick him and give him a ride somewhere this evening (bear in mind I'm an hour and a half away)
Me: "Of course, but it will take me a bit to get back there, where you need to go"
Son: "I have an extra ticket to a game tonight I thought you wold be interested in....at the K....see you in a couple of hours"
Me: HOLY SHIT!!!! I'M ON THE WAY
