The terrorists have won!

Quote:

Earlier Wednesday, Sony pulled the film, which depicts the assassination of North Korea's leader, following a threat that people should avoid going to theaters where "The Interview" is playing. The country's major theater companies had said they had decided to postpone or cancel next week's showing.
"In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film "The Interview," we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release," Sony said in its first statement on the matter.
"Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. ... We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie. ... We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

So maybe they'll just go ahead and release it and we can ALL watch it on Netflix and HBO.

KC_Lee 12-17-2014 08:00 PM

Here's a solution....

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...america-759037

Quote:

After Sony canceled the release of the North Korea assassination comedy The Interview, a Texas theater said it would swap the film with Paramount's 2004 film Team America: World Police for one free screening.

"We're just trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation," James Wallace, creative manager and programmer at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's Dallas/Fort Worth location, tells The Hollywood Reporter.

American flags and other patriotic items will be given out by theater employees, Wallace says.

The plot of Team America, co-written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, revolves around Kim Jong Il, the father of current North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. The posters promoting the R-rated movie in 2004 included the tagline, "Putting the 'F' Back in Freedom."

In The Interview, Seth Rogen and James Franco's characters are tasked with assassinating Kim Jong Un.

The Alamo Drafthouse movie theater in Dallas, Texas, will be showing Team America: World Police in place of The Interview on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. Wallace says that the Dallas/Fort Worth location is the only location as of now that is planning to screen the replacement film.

In a note on its website, the theater added: "THAT is how true American heroes will be celebrating this year, but if you want to let the terrorists win...well, that's your prerogative."

Sony canceled the release of The Interview earlier on Wednesday after the country's five largest theater chains all decided against showing the film, saying in a statement: "We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers."

That's a very good point, but keep in mind that this movie includes Seth Rogan. While I'm against terrorism, I'm also strongly opposed to any movie that involves Seth Rogan.

To some extent, I wonder if perhaps the North Koreans just have extremely good taste in movies.

I'm also having trouble envisioning North Korea pulling off a terrorist attack in the United States. You land a bunch of North Koreans in Los Angeles on a submarine, and their brains are going to explode.

Plus, it's going to be hard to pull off an attack in a theater with a World War II rifle and a Korean winter uniform.

BigRichard 12-17-2014 10:38 PM

This is completely ridiculous. My bet would be they have some juicy information on some top execs at Sony. That would be the only logical explanation I can think of.

Their submarines at least are Soviet 50's era that were decommissioned roughly 25 years ago.

The fact of the matter is that Austin Powers killed the Bond franchise. Absolutely slayed it. It was so pitch perfect that it's impossible to watch some of those old Bond films, which were fun but always a bit campy in the 70's, without busting out with laughter.

The "reboot" with Daniel Craig, IMO, has been phenomenal. Quantum wasn't nearly in the same league as Casino Royale, let alone, Skyfall but it was head and shoulders above the past two decades of Bond films.

Sony has a lot invested in 24 and expect it to be the best Bond film of all time as well as being its highest grossing Bond film of all time.

And lastly, it's a damn shame (IMO) that Pierce Brosnan's talents were wasted during that era. I have no doubt that he would have been an absolute badass if he had been given scripts like Skyfall and Casino Royale.

But what's been released has been very, very damaging.

The newer Bond Movies with Daniel Craig are indeed awesome. Good scripts, great acting.
What is really refreshing is that it puts the Bond Character in a more human light. The new Bond Character gets the shit kicked out of him, he bleeds, he feels.

Well, IMO, it was stupid for Sony to allow the film to be made using a real-life dictator, especially when said dictator has shaky relations with the US and Japan.

Did no one at Sony stop to think about the ramifications of a film whose premise is to assassinate a real life leader? This whole mess could have been easily avoided had they instead used a caricature of Korea and its leader.

Amy Pascal should be looking for a job today, not overseeing Sony strategy.

It's not a "societal" issue.

Sony decided to make a film about assassinating the leader of a nation. North Korea warned of repercussions but didn't budge. It was a dumb move on their part.

Don't you think the leader of China or even Putin would be outraged if Sony would have greenlit a movie about assassinating either? The whole idea of using a real life person was just a bad idea.

Huh? Seth Rogen is great. I could kinda understand your Jack Black hate, but now I'm starting to think you just don't like chubby comedians.

Test: Chris Farley - funny or no?

I would put Jack Black above Seth Rogan, and I'm not a big fan of Jack Black. But it's not a chubby thing. Will Ferrell is not chubby and he's almost as bad as both of those guys. I may even put him below Jack Black.

Chris Farley had his moments on Saturday Night Live. I would put him in the realm of comedy, whereas Ferrell, Black, and Rogan are all tragedy.

But Chris Farley should not have won the SNL best cast member tournament we had a while back. Fat or skinny, he's not in the same league as Eddie Murphy in his prime.

Whoa. Will Ferrell? Are you a "comedy died with the Three Stooges" guy or something?

Why is it I desperately want to watch this movie while drinking a Boulevard Crown Town Ale???

We might be brothers. Ferrell is awful (except in Stranger Than Fiction and Everything Must Go).

Well, IMO, it was stupid for Sony to allow the film to be made using a real-life dictator, especially when said dictator has shaky relations with the US and Japan.

Ever seen Hot Shots 2? How about Team America: World Police? Is Kim Jong Un regarded in higher esteem than his dad or Saddam Hussein?
