Chex Mix, how do you do it?
Chex mix is a Christmas-time staple at the FMB! abode. I really like the original kind on the box, with deluxe mixed nuts (none of that peanut-rich BS), rice, corn, and wheat Chex, and Goldfish crackers. Sometimes I'll add bagel chips or melba toast.
How do you do it? What's a "must" for Chex mix? |
Worcestershire and butter
|
I usually buy some Chex Mix and dump it in a bowl.
|
Crushed up in a hamburger patty.
|
1. Buy bag of Chex Mix
2. Open it and enjoy 3. ??? 4. Profit! |
damn this sounds tasty.
it's been forever since I've had a good spicy check mix. |
You people buying Chex mix are really missing out on the good stuff. It doesn't compare to homemade.

I agree with you. Good stuff. |
Apricot preserves, ace - it's the key to life!

I wouldn't suggest buying chex mix during this time of the season.
|
Corn Chex.
In a bowl with a little sugar and milk. |

Homemade is the best. I like to use rice, corn, and wheat Chex, cheerios, cashews, pretzels, and Goldfish Crackers or Cheez-its. Butter, Worcestershire, garlic powder and season salt gets the job done.

This thread makes me want puppy chow.

Corn and rice Chex, pretzels (sticks or round), garlic bagel chips, peanuts, cashews. The wife makes the seasoning so I'm not totally sure what all is in there, though butter, cayenne and W sauce are part of it.
All gluten free, of course (thanks General Mills) |
I had some a while back that were tossed with olive oil and cayenne pepper. It might have been baked after that. It was fantastic. I'm a freak about spicy food.
|
My wife makes bushel baskets full of this stuff before Christmas. I'm not sure what all she put in it, but I do know it has: Pretzels, chex (wheat, rice, corn), cheerios, mixed nuts, Lea & Perrins (can't spell worsheshshchetshire) and butter.
|
In the oven, not the microwave, you heathens
|
Cinnamon Life instead of Chex
|
My wife always eats chex mix and she is skinny as hell. I eat broccili and I am fat :(

Same for me. My wife eats like a Hobbit. We'll do breakfast and I'll have two eggs and wheat toast, she'll have pancakes, biscuits, eggs, hash browns, and bacon. |
I guess it could be the amount of calories I eat. I don't know I just know is not far because my wife will eat eggs cheese bacon and I will eat broccli and white race and I weight 304 pounds.

He's probably golden. |

Well, that would make a difference. |
My mom used to get pissed when it would stick together after letting it cool. That was always the best part
Rice wheat corn chex basically the recipe on the box. Sometimes in the microwave with a paper bag. That makes the whole house reek and pisses the old lady off something ferocious so it's been a while LMAO Maybe oven bake some this weekend |
I like the jalapeņo cheddar flavor.
But i loooooove puppy chow....chocolate pb and powdered sugar |

My chex mix may be the only thing I do that i'm proud of.
First, I always do two batches at once. It's perfect for a deep 9x13 pan. Second, I hate wheat chex. Third, I always melt the butter in a measuring cup, then whisk in the spices, then pour over the ingredients. Seems to give the most even coating. I usually go with something along the lines of the following: 8 cups corn chex 8 cups rice chex 4 cups goldfish (usually just cheddar, occasionally cheddar and parmesan) 2 cups pretzel sticks (snyder's; never rold gold, they're too thin) 2 cups nuts (usually just cashews; last batch was cashews, pecans and almonds and was great - NEVER PEANUTS) Occasionally I'll throw in some bugles or cheerios for variety, but generally not. It's literally the easiest thing in the world to make. 10 minutes prep, stir every 15 minutes, let cool after an hour. Oh, and I usually cook it a bit under 250. Although that may be having an electric stove and the temp being off. Usually go with 225. Also a key for making good cookies in my experience. But I do prefer them soft and chewy rather than crispy. |
Feel sorry for the people that think chex mix from a bag is acceptable. It's like saying don't bother with Arthur Bryants because McDonalds has the McRib.
Making my holiday double batch today. A little extra spicy, and made in the oven like god intended. |
Chex mix snobs lol

I've always heard it called Muddy Buddies, not Puppy Chow.

Crispix mix > chez mix

Full plan of attack is to melt the butter (stick and half) in pyrex (liquid) measuring cup in the microwave, stir in worchestershire sauce (4 tbsp), stir in seasoned salt (1 tbsp), stir in garlic powder (1.5 tsp), stir in onion powder (1 tsp). Pour over the mix. Bake. Sad part of all this is that I can't remember what I did an hour ago, but the chex mix recipe I know from memory. |

It's sort of weird. Lately I've been mostly going with cheddar. Actually bought flavor blasted (basically goldfish with cheetoes seasoning..) by accident last time (not sure how I managed that...). Was afraid it would screw the mix up but I didn't notice any difference. |
I've been chowing down on Chex Mix watching the SF-SD game. Good stuff, man!

I make the box version and add some Frank's Red Hot. |
My parents made it when they played cards with company. I ate it as a kid but not now. I can't but it was good when I could. I just can't help ya' with any tips.
Guess I could do it with rice and corn with gluten free gold fish crackers if they exist. I just never made this before. |
Currently have some cooking in the slow cooker ROFL
Never tried the slow cooker method but it was mentioned today so **** it  |
