I forgot to ask... Why did the Ref....

Why did the ref run over to Houston to cover up his stomach when he lifted it up to show #29 underneath. That was some bullshit. They just showed it on the news and reminded me I forgot to ask CP :)

If anyone has a gif of the ref scrambling to cover up Houstons belly after the sack post it up ROFL

Anyone know why the ref did that shit?

DaFace 12-23-2014 10:28 PM

It's probably against the rules to do something like that, but they let it go at first since it would have been douchey to fine him for supporting a teammate who got cancer. Eventually, you've gotta enforce the rule though.

(Not 100% sure of that, but I can't imagine them being able to write whatever on a shirt like that.)

WhiteWhale 12-23-2014 10:31 PM

Yeah, the ref relented when he saw what it was.

The official may have thought he was going to promote a non-NFL-endorsed brand of gear or something. Nothing against the rules of Houston's actions, I think they were just anticipating something else. He's been doing that for weeks.

TribalElder 12-23-2014 10:44 PM

I just thought it was a bitch move by the ref

At first it looked like a mistake but then he kept going trying to cover it up like a little pest

2bikemike 12-23-2014 10:45 PM

At first I was thinking he was trying to stop Houston but then on replay I took it as he was patting Houston's belly like he was acknowledging the fact.

That's because the ref is a pedophile

Same here. I don't think he was trying to cover it up either. Houston ran toward the ref and the ref put his hand up to keep his distance, then looked down, saw what he was touching and patted the #29. I took it as support.

At least he wasn't like Stevie Johnson and put why so serious but I notice that on the ref.

007 12-24-2014 01:46 AM

I didn't read anything into it at all. They haven't stopped him yet and I see no reason why they would. It is a single man celebration. not against the rules.

Cheater5 12-24-2014 08:16 AM

Might've thought it was a "I can't breathe" statement, and maybe all refs got told before the game(s) to watch for that stuff...

Hell I don't know.

Steron 12-24-2014 08:22 AM

Would anyone care to link it. I must have missed it.

This. It was a stupid act by Houston. They all have the 29 on their jerseys. Just point to that. We don't need anymore protests going on.

I dunnow as the Ref moved away he then saw the celebration continuing and moved back in to cover. At least that is what it looks like to me. Guess we will never know unless the ref speaks up.

Rules are the rules and if its not officially approved by the NFL then he will be fined. Maybe just move off to the open area and face camera and draw a big # 29 in air. Keep the fine money and donate it to a cancer research institute or something.

wazu 12-24-2014 11:52 AM

I saw it the other way. It looked to me like the ref was somehow trying to be some part of the celebration. Maybe he likes Eric Berry or is passionate about cancer or something. He seemed to be smiling and encouraging. Probably not appropriate for a ref to behave that way after a sack, though.

ShortRoundChief 12-24-2014 12:50 PM

Personally, I thought he was rubbing his belly.

Maybe he thought he had a tummy ache?

I think all fines are given to charity anyway.

Ace Gunner 12-24-2014 04:16 PM

he patted houston's stomach -- also the pr dept announces any extra-promotional activity by players to the refs before the game. despite despising the NFL for what wrongs they have done to the game, this is not one of those imo.

Yeah, how ignorant and stupid to pay tribute to a teammate in your own way. I cant even believe the nerve. How dare he. Right? RIGHT?

They should suspend him for the final game so he has no shot at the 20 sack mark. That would show him.

The ****ing nerve of this guy, Houston.

Just do some reeruned dance, or mock the opposing QB while he's on the turf, like a normal thug. Jesus.

What is this league coming to?

Buns 12-24-2014 07:55 PM

I'm just glad Justin had the uniform department print a shirt for him rather than the scribbled sharpie mess he's been rocking.
