Directv blacks out local CBS

Anyone also in the same boat? I've called a few bars and they can't air the game either. Any stream available or will CBS air the game on their website? what options are you exercising?

Bugeater 01-04-2015 10:45 AM

The best option is **** Directv.

Throw up an antenna ?

milkman 01-04-2015 10:53 AM

Direct TV is not blocking your local CBS station.

Your local CBS station pulled their programming because their contract expired, and rather than allowing DTV to continue to provide you with your local network, and ensure that you get that all important local advertising, which is the reason you are not allowed to choose non local affiliates, they pulled out.

I was under the impression since there's no more analog signal I won't be able to. I must be wrong?

Its bullshit they won't turn on LA's CBS station for us while negotiations take place. basically sticking it to us directv and CBS all the while we pay our bill.

There is no analog signal, just digital. You need a digital antenna, and if you're still using an old tube TV, you'll also need a converter box.

Antenna is antenna. There is no digital or analog. Rabbit ears will pull in strong local digital signals.

I agree.

But you'll have the same problem with Dish or cable if those contracts expire.

The FCC is the reason you can't watch out of market affiliates.

Oh, I thought there was digital specific ones. I used OTA on the back porch TV for a while and the old antenna I had sitting around didn't work particularly well.

Yep, as long as your TV has a digital tuner.

Yeah, they pretty much do. If I ever moved out of the area I'd buy a slingbox and have someone sling the games to me before I'd give Directv even one more penny of my money.

Garcia Bronco 01-04-2015 11:04 AM

In 2 to 3 years you will no longer need cable at all. Technology is going to make ala cart possible and without the cables companys consent. They are a midddle man and they re about to get cut out.

Hbo...get the app
Espn get the app
Local channels...over the air...you don t need a digital antenna, but you ll pull more with one
Fx...get the app
Movies? ?..get netflix

Wtf would i need comcadishturnercoxtv anymore?

There's a digital signal. Depends if you have a DTV or are still rocking an analog set.

I've got all 4 major networks. Sorry bro, that is ****ing infuriating.

Bwana 01-04-2015 11:20 AM

Yep I was bitching about it earlier but it's the outfit in Minnesota that owns all the CBS stations in Montana that's ****ing us over. The contract expired and they want the damn moon to let Direct TV broadcast their station.

I also called DTV and tried to bullshit them into piping down the LA or NY feed and they would have none of it. I guess it's a federal thing and they can't. I'm also trying to hunt down a feed on-line. Oh and the greedy mother ****ers that own the stations here that are residing over in Minnesota can kiss my nut sack.

If it's a big national cable network, yes... but local channels are owned by different media companies. CBS does own a few, but usually only in really big cities. Most are owned by some other media company. It's that media company that's probably having the rift with Directv. So in other cities, it may be an NBC or ABC station blacked out, based on what that company owns.

Usually it is a disagreement between DTV and the company that owns the local/cable channel.

He should look at info on the local CBS website.

after reading more-which company in Minnesota? Because None of the twin cities stations are blocked out here

If you had just a couple of brain cells to rub together and followed the thread, you'd have been able to avoid the confusion, dipshit.

And for future reference, I prefer "asshole", but "dick" works as well, I guess.

If I am not mistaken, if you cannot get a decent signal or your local affiliate is not within x number of miles they can provide you with another affiliate.
I would check deeper into this if I were you

That's simply untrue. I work for a broadcast company that goes through this all the time with Directv. They pulled this same line with our markets, and the truth is, we tried to extend the agreement so we could continue to negotiate, and they pulled the plug.

Local TV are the most-watched stations, yet the cable companies and satellite providers want to pay local TV the least for retransmission rights.

Blame DTV for the outage - they're CONSTANTLY in retrans arguments with broadcasters and other stations alike. AMC was recently running ads saying they were in danger of being pulled.

So who's to blame: the company that argues with everyone, or the company that seals deals with cable carriers and satellite carriers across the country, but always has trouble with DTV?
