Black Crowes split

Black Crowes' Rich Robinson: 'The Band Has Broken Up'
ARTICLESNEWS
By Erin Strecker | January 15, 2015 5:53 PM EST

Rich Robinson announced Thursday (Jan. 15) that, after 24 years, the Black Crowes are breaking up.

"It is with great disappointment and regret that after having the privilege of writing and performing the music of The Black Crowes over the last 24 years, I find myself in the position of saying that the band has broken up," the guitarist said in a statement. "I hold my time with the Black Crowes with the utmost respect and sincerest appreciation. It is a huge swath of my life's body of work. I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished and deeply moved by the relationships people created and maintained with my music. That alone is the greatest honor of being a musician.

"I love my brother and respect his talent but his present demand that I must give up my equal share of the band and that our drummer for 28 years and original partner, Steve Gorman, relinquish 100% of his share, reducing him to a salaried employee, is not something I could agree to," Robinson continued, referencing his brother, Crowes frontman and co-founder Chris Robinson. "There are so many people who have helped and supported us along the way. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to all of our fans, our friends behind the scenes, and to everyone who was a part of The Black Crowes."

According to Jambase, the band's last performance was in San Fransisco in December 2013. Chris Robinson is currently busy with his new band, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood.

While promoting the Brotherhood, Chris has been discussing the Black Crowes in recent interviews, saying, "I don't do frivolous things with music. The Black Crowes, to be honest, became a very tedious scenario. I...I know the Black Crowes are not going to turn around and be something that I think is super amazing again and fun and vibrant with the energy I'm looking for."

The Black Crowes previously split up in 2002 and went on hiatus in 2010, only to return both times.

Ebolapox 01-16-2015 02:58 PM

Dayze 01-16-2015 03:02 PM

they should really just put their differences aside and remedy the situation.

Pushead2 01-16-2015 03:05 PM

that'd be too much of a thorn in their pride

KCUnited 01-16-2015 03:06 PM

He should talk to Criss Angel about some Vegas shows.

cosmo20002 01-16-2015 03:08 PM

Q
Isn't this about the third time they've broken up?

This was probably twice as hard as the first time they said goodbye.

DMAC 01-16-2015 03:09 PM

Time will tell

alpha_omega 01-16-2015 03:09 PM

I thought they already had split....guess i am living in the past.

Speaking of the Crowes and living in the past....this is still one of the best live albums in my collection.....

They are the American Oasis.

On a side note; who the hell knew they were still together? Or cared.

DaneMcCloud 01-16-2015 10:34 PM

Oh the stories I could tell.

These brothers hate each other with so much passion that it literally brings me to tears of uncontrollable laughter.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-16-2015 10:42 PM

Please, God, just one.

Why Not? 01-17-2015 03:55 AM

Guess no one's soul is singing about this news.

Coochie liquor 01-17-2015 10:22 AM

Not a big fan of much rock music, but the Crowes are def one of my faves in that genre. Sad, but not unexpected.

Ya, don't hold out on us. What you got?

Bewbies 01-17-2015 03:53 PM

A buddy of mine and his band were nominated into the Georgia music hall of fame the same night as the Black Crowes. He had to agree (and sign) that he wouldn't look them in the eyes and a bunch of other weird shit. Everyone else was cool as hell that night, these guys are loons.

Who makes other bands sign a waiver that they won't look you in the eye at a hall of fame induction ceremony?

kcxiv 01-17-2015 06:18 PM

i think i remember one song they had in the 90's because it was on MTV alot. outside of that, i dont remember any of their shit.

The motion passes. Mr. McCloud, please resume your testimony.

Hell, it's not like one of the Robinsons is gonna read it and get madderer at the other.

DaneMcCloud 01-17-2015 07:32 PM

I'm on my iPad the next few days because of the holiday weekend. I'll share a story or two next week, once I'm on a computer.

You guys may not find them as entertaining as I do but they're both pretty nuts.

Al Bundy 01-17-2015 07:34 PM

These guys always came off as complete douchebags.

Nah, look forward to it. The Robinson brothers are batshit crazy from what little I've heard about them. Hell, wasn't that part of the reason Kate Hudson ended up leaving Chris?

Seems they had a similar brotherly relationship to the Gallagher bros from Oasis.

KCwolf 01-17-2015 07:45 PM

Great band ... sad news .... seen them numerous times in concert and Chris Robinson knew how to put on a show.

Ya, that is bizarre.
