This is an horrendous hire.

LOL at Raider fans thinking Trestman would go there.

Rams Fan 01-19-2015 08:00 PM

Hahaha. What a lackluster hire.

Musgrave is a turd amongst turds. Don't be surprised if he quits.

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 01-19-2015 08:07 PM

Third time's a charm, I guess. Working with Chip Kelly is probably the only reason he's getting another shot.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-19-2015 08:08 PM

I'm liking the way the AFCW is shaping up for next year.

DaneMcCloud 01-19-2015 08:32 PM

Maybe the Raiders will get lucky and hire Clancy Pendergast as their DC

listopencil 01-19-2015 08:33 PM

Man that name rings a bell. Wasn't he a Bronco QB for a couple of years? As I recall he kind of sucked.

Brock 01-19-2015 08:33 PM

I guess Joe Pendry wasn't available

Deberg_1990 01-19-2015 08:33 PM

But coached up Matt Ryan though....,,

listopencil 01-19-2015 08:35 PM

Drafted in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys, Musgrave was released in camp, but played with the San Francisco 49ers in 1991 and 1993 under head coach George Seifert and offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan. Musgrave went with Shanahan to Denver, where he played in 1995-96, and was released in preseason 1997.

Eureka 01-19-2015 09:15 PM

I'm not to thrilled but he was a QB in the NFL and has been a QB coach for years. He might be able to help improve Carr. At least JDR thinks so. That's right folks the Raiders are trying to develop their own QB. GASP!

One thing I've noticed is that most teams in the playoffs developed their own QB. Musgraves must develop Carr to succeed!

Reerun_KC 01-19-2015 09:17 PM

IF any fan base in the NFL could identify a bad hire its the Kansas City Chiefs fans...

We have seen the worse of the worse in coaching hires.. IF a CP member says it a bad hire, there is a good chance it is... We are experts at dealing with shit coaches.

chiefzilla1501 01-19-2015 10:08 PM

Ok, now that he's out of the running... I'll say that I'm curious to see how Trestman does if he gets a second shot.

There was an interesting article by Cosell that talked about how he was stuck with Cutler, who was a really bad QB for the scheme he wanted to run. Couple that with Trestman being a bad people manager. Get him on a team where he can pick his QB, give him a little time, put him back on X's and O's. Will be interested to see how he does.

KC_Lee 01-19-2015 10:21 PM

He's no Jimmy Raye, but then again who is?

Breathing a sigh of relief on this one. Some of the posters on this board had me worried about Trestman going there. Not sure I understand yet why this is a "horrendous" hire, but hope it's true.

Musgrave worked well with another YPA/YPC abortion in Christian Ponder. Expect more dinking, dunking, and losing from the garbage QB in Oakland.

Looks like he was QB coach for Matt Ryan's first 3 years as well, though.

From what I remember, the Ryan offense the first few years was ridiculously conservative. A luxury you have when Michael Turner is tearing shit up for you. I don't know that QBs these days need the same kind of kid gloves, but I'm happy if the Raiders want to start treating Carr with kid gloves.

Al Czervik 01-19-2015 10:48 PM

It was between Musgrave or Brian Daboll......
I would of taken Mussy too....

alpha_omega 01-19-2015 10:49 PM

Admittedly, I don't know much about him. However, don't recall his name ever being mentioned in an overly positive light.

I'll take it.

LMAO a couple of you guys are so thin skinned it is amusing. I said there are reeruned homer posts here and there are. I qualified that later by noting the same type of posts appear on all team boards. As far as the hire I do not like it. Flat out disappointing would describe it best~

Bullshit.

You guys ****ed this one up. That's all there is to it. The only homerism that can possibly take place right now is if some Raiders fan stops in and defends the hire.

And it looks like that just happened.

R8RFAN 01-20-2015 06:54 AM

I don't know alot about him to be honest... I just hope he brings Chip Kellys playbook with him instead of the one he had with the Vikings...

I suspect the Raiders are going to be a running team now... I am sure he will bring a more balanced attack because Carr does not need to be throwing 50 passes a game.

Kman34 01-20-2015 06:55 AM

Just looking at his history...He won't be there long..

You and Dane are ****ing hilarious. You two go full on batshit LMAO The homer comment was made to another rival poster referring to being on a rivals board saying reeruned homer comments come with the territory and they do. They are a part of any board dedicated to a team. People show favoritism and bias for the team they root for. Quit being an idiot for ****ssake. Please point out anything in my post defending this hire also post anything from the Del Rio thread where I was homer~

Not excited about Musgrave as OC, he has gotten pretty decent results out of terrible QBs, so that bodes well for Carr who looks to be at least a decent QB. I'm more worried about who we hire as DC as I'm hearing Mangini.

I thought they were moving to L.A or St. Louis. When did Houston become the front runner? Are they keeping the Texans too?
