Peace out, Marcus Cooper.
|
I love this pick. Great player and will be every bit as good as Flowers was, IMO. Go watch him vs Jaelen Strong.
|
Moarrr CBsss!

Every player in the 3rd round will have some knocks lol. If he didn't have any cons then he would be first round talent dumbass |
I would have rather had TJ Clemings but what ever better then the last 2 picks by miles.

had him in one of my mocks in the 4th round back in november
"4.23 Steven Nelson,cb, Oregon state Press man corner i love. He is ridiculously aggressive, he is great at jamming guys at he los and running with them, he is also a good tackler." still feel the same way about him, great player. i would have preferred clemmings or mcbride though. theres still a chance we can get mcbride in the 4th though. |
I can't hate on this. After Smith our CB's were pretty poor.
Sounds like he's good in run support, average speed, start out as nickel corner and could become a starter with time. Not bad... |
I AM NOT HAPPY.

I think we're set up pretty well for the future with Gaines, Peters, and Nelson as our top 3 CBs. Nelson should be a beast in the slot. He was all over the place at the Senior Bowl.

Nickel or slow corner.

The Chiefs had a Top 5 secondary last season and they'll be even better this year. |

It also means we can stop pretending that Jalil Fleming is some great player when he really only played one game for us all year.
Same with Philip Gaines. I'm really glad we don't have to depend on his constantly injured vagina this year. |

Hard to see Cooper and Commings sticking now...
Smith Peters Gaines Flemming Nelson I think they gone. Looks like Smith is going to be gone in 2016. |

Peters should earn the no 2 and if Gaines and Nelson battle for the 3rd/Nickel we'll be just fine. Good, actually... |

Love our depth at corner now. Smith, Gaines, Peters, Nelson, Cooper.
|
One thing to remember when looking at game tape of Nelson, the Beavers had one of the worst all time defensive coordinators (as you Nebraska fans will find out). He taught the dbs to play the man rather than the ball and it led to a lot of penalties. When Nelson went to the Senior Bowl with better coaching, he blossomed. With quality coaching, his technique will improve and he will end up being a pretty good corner, imo.
|
Gaines will be just fine. You can never have too much talent at CB. Nelson is another possible piece.
I love that the new DBs are aggressive, in your face, attitude guys. |

All the DBs we draft fit our scheme. Hope these two pan out.

You want an answer for Manning and the Donks? Add quality CB's who can jam and cover and keep that elite pass rush... |

Cooper looked decent in a small sample size as well and then looked like ass when he got his chance last year. Also worthy of note is after this draft Parker will stay his ass at S and not see any time at CB unless something horrible happens... |
|
Our secondary has a chance to be flat out nasty. There are going to be lots of coverage sacks. Guys, Dorsey is building a monster defense. I mean there's a lot of talent on that side of the ball.
|
Once Smith leaves it will be Peters and Gaines on the outside with Nelson in the slot.
Not bad. Kind of like it actually. |
Need to stock up on defense with our QB.

Dorsey gave Smith everything he could this offseason no more excuses for this little bitch |

In three rounds there's really only one pick I don't like and I still think the guy will be a decent player. I think the pick could have been used better but hey, this offseason Dorsey has been money so far... |

That was a weird highlight tape. Lots of separation taking place and he looks small
|
One thing that we need to improve on dramatically this season is forcing turnovers.

Okay his run support in the USC tape in the OP is pretty goddamned impressive.
|
Quote:
No. You need to stock up on defense because this year alone the Chiefs play against Big Ben, joe flacco, Peyton twice, rivers twice, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson. That's half the ****ing schedule. |

I'll trust Dorsey on cbs
|
Any chance they move him to Saftey?
He looks much more comfortable with everything in front of him. I don't see him as a press corner. |
Quote:

I'm pretty sure at his presser Dorsey said they were considering him a cornerback.

Wow! We are really loaded at corner now. Still a little weak at safety with Berry out. Any chance any of our currents corners can make a Ron Parker switch and be a really good safety? Fleming? Cooper? Not any chance that they drafted Nelson to play safety is there? A sure tackler like that is what you need at safety.

Gaines and Fleming are injured soft bitches. |
I've gone reverse Morse on this pick. I hated Morse at the time, warmed quickly.
This pick I liked at the time but have reversed a bit on. He's just so limited. He can't play out wide, IMO and I think a press corner loses a lot of value in the slot because of how difficult it is to really get your hands on a slot WR. I just see a lot of Chris Owens in him. I actually did a fair amount of research on him largely on accident. I was looking into Jaelen Strong and watched Nelson absolutely hand him his ass all day. So I looked at some other clips, etc... and essentially decided that Nelson is likely a 3rd/4th round pick and a really really average CB prospect. That's why I had no interest in Strong - he got owned by a 'meh' defender. With Clemmings and Jarrett on the board, I'm not sure why the Chiefs felt the need to get a guy who's athleticism will keep him in the slot. I'd have gone Collins but I understand why the Chiefs didn't. Why not Hollimon though? Ramik Wilson? There just wasn't a need to go after him here and he's not a good enough prospect to pass on others. As neither a need or BPA guy, IMO, I don't really like the pick. |
