Your interesting Chiefs facts of the week.
Courtesy of some analysis of pro-football-reference. Figures are the player, date, opponent, and yardage. In the case of passing TDs, the QB is also listed.
The longest Chiefs rushing TDs in history: Jamaal Charles 9/23/2012 NOR 91 Jamaal Charles 12/23/2012 IND 86 Ted McKnight 9/30/1979 SEA 84 Joe Delaney 10/18/1981 DEN 82 Derrick Alexander 12/18/1999 PIT 82 Abner Haynes 11/29/1964 NYJ 80 Warren McVea 10/26/1969 CIN 80 Jamaal Charles 12/9/2012 CLE 80 Mike Garrett 10/30/1966 HOU 77 Robert Holmes 9/28/1968 MIA 76 Steve Bono 10/1/1995 ARI 76 Jamaal Charles 12/13/2009 BUF 76 Observations: Jamaal had a good year in 2012, and ... haha. The longest Chiefs blocked kick TDs in history: Lloyd Burruss 12/21/1986 PIT 78 Kevin Ross 12/6/1987 CIN 65 Chris Martin 9/30/1990 CLE 31 Observations: Only three of these, apparently. I expected more. The longest Chiefs TD in history, not elsewhere classified: Sherrill Headrick 12/17/1961 NYT 56 (Lateral) Observations: Not sure what this is. |
I always like Tamarick Vanover.
|
All-time Chiefs' leader in comebacks:
Elvis Grbac with nine: three on the road against Oakland overcoming 14 point deficits each time, one on the road against Denver, two at home against Seattle, and ones at home against Carolina, Pittsburgh, and San Diego. |
I remember my mom saw an interview with Vanover after a game where he had a runback (it wasn't the SD MNF comeback) and he was praising God.
Several years later, around the time of Dante's heyday, she asked me what happened to the other kick returner, "the Christian." "He was imprisoned for his role in facilitating a drug trafficking ring." |

The Lloyd Burrus one put the Chiefs into the playoffs

See Rain Man, you CAN do football talk too.
|
Most TD passes in which the ball travelled less than 5 yards in the air:
Alex Smith - all of them |
Most rushes ended by stupidly running into the pile for a 1 yard gain:
Donell Bennett |
Most potential TD passes dropped for no reason:
Dwayne Bowe Rookie Tony Gonzalez |
That New Oleans game was the Jamaal Charles show
|
Jamaal Charles..... Because we spend so much time on our own 5 yard line.
|
I don't recall hearing or reading about Jitter Fields before. At all. You'd think a name like that would be memorable, too.

It warms my heart to see Bono on this list.
Thanks Buddy Ryan D |
liking that the longest TD and Return plays were by the 2 backs currently on our roster

Not trying to derail this thread, but I thought this was very interesting and thought it fit the spirit of the thread.
In 3 playoff games, Alex Smith has exactly 1000 yards (873 passing, 127 rushing), 10tds (9 passing, 1rushing) and no turnovers. |
After reading all the stats, one thing is clear-BRING BACK LENNY THE COOL SO HE CAN THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD!!!
|
I really surprised that during the Marty Era, the only 'longest rushing TD' comes from Steve Bono...No Okoye, Word, Allen or Hill for that matter.

Alex smith most invisible TDs.
|
I'm noting that Jamaal Charles had 17 percent of his rushing yards on 2012 on 3 carries. That's kind of funny. Those three runs add 0.9 yards per carry to his season total.
|
And then the sad news....
Tied for least receiving TDs in a season Tops for longest # of minutes in a season without a lead in the modern NFL On the plus side, they have the loudest stadium record and largest stadium flyover record. So there's that. |

That's why PFF didn't even have Jamaal as a top 100 player for the 2012 season |

I'm almost certain of it... http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...1&postcount=17 |

No Jackson had something like that, but more so. I think he had something insane, like 2 or 3 runs were 20 percent of his CAREER yards. |
Quote:
What this illustrates is just how dangerous Jamaal is when he has adequate blocking. What the poor blocking over the last couple of years illustrates is just how good Jamaal really is. The fact that he has been able to maintain 5.0 ypc carry is a testament to just how damn good he really is. |
Read this on another KC site, and thought it was interesting...

Cant wait to see what 30+ years, a ton of carries and a year off do for Peterson this year so everyone will finally shut the hell up about him, at least. |

That 5 ypc mark hasn't been done by anyone, ever... and its been done on some all time NFL bad teams... **** it, throw 40k to the strippers next time JC, whatever makes you happy baby. |

The NFL Network lists are always rankings of the year ahead. The current ranking is for 2015 but the 2015 season hasn't happened yet. Obviously, the most heavily weighted criteria will be the prior year's production, which is why you see a guy like Murray ranked so highly. The list is bullshit regardless. |
Quote:
The Vikings are an ascending team. They've got a capable young QB and a defense that's trending up. If I had to bet money id predict a vintage type of season for Peterson. |
Quote:
I forget what all they were, but Zimmer did wonders for that defense last year, ditching that tired ass, reactive cover 2, they climbed in a bunch of standings... but its still his second year, probably 2/3 of that team still aren't "his guys" yet. They're an ascending team alright, but don't expect too much. Especially from Peterson, theres a ton of biological/physical factors at play there, not to mention the fact that he does NOT want to be there, he feels like the fans and team abandoned him at his time of greatest need... how hard is he really going to try for them? |
Quote:
I've never heard anything negative about his work ethic. The guy spent New Year's in the hospital recovering from surgery so he could get back to 100% health by the start of the 2012 season. He may feel unappreciated but he's been out of the mix for an entire season and dealt with several off-the-field issues in the meantime. I'd bet he wants nothing more than to re-claim his title as best RB in the league. |
