VIDEO: AUS professional surfer Mick Fanning gets attacked by shark during live run.

Holy Crap!!!

I know shark attacks are rare, but man talk about a living nightmare. Glad the guy is ok. Sharks a lot of times mistake surf/boogie boards for seals and/or other marinelife.

Happened in South Africa...which is a shark metropolis. I don't know why anyone would get on a board and surf in that region. Isn't that where the "seal island" is located?

Wow

Dylan 07-19-2015 12:46 PM

damn!

I am not sure how he escaped unscathed

BWillie 07-19-2015 12:55 PM

He punched it in the back. And it just left him alone. This guy is the true sharknado

Because it has some of the top surfing spots in the world.

There were two sharks in the US this summer on the east coast. Think one was in off NC coast.

That is nuts.

BucEyedPea 07-19-2015 01:07 PM

Under the video it says that's in Jeffrey's Bay. That's #2 out of the top spots in the world for surfing due to the consistency and quality of the break.

Video @ 5:33

"This is the first time in professional surfing history that ... I never experienced it - nobody ever experienced it ... a situation like that when a surfer is attacked by TWO sharks..."

Munson 07-19-2015 01:22 PM

I'm surprised he didn't leave a brown cloud in the water.

There much easier to avoid when there's only two of them.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-19-2015 01:43 PM

Happens to me all the time.

I know that.. and people like to run w/ the bulls too. It's ****ing stupid, but people do it.

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't surf in areas that are known for lots of shark activity. This isn't the coast of the US where there are just a few/handful or so shark sightings in shallower swimming areas throughout a season.

This is South Africa. Seal Island is in this region, and it's a shark feasting mecca. I understand shark attacks are not so much sharks "wanting" to feast on humans but more so the fact they investigate with their bite, and commonly mistaken a human on a surfboard for a seal or some other form of prey. I just would hate the be the guy who gets a foot or leg chomped off and then the shark just goes "oops my bad you're not a seal" and then swims off.

No thanks I'll surf somewhere else.

Talk about horseshoe up your ass.

srvy 07-19-2015 05:59 PM

Those two Great Whites gorged themselves on seals then toys with the last baby seal ( the surfer dude) sending a message. Today you live but next time we may be hungry and you will be one more of my turds on the ocean floor soon after digesting all I can of you.

Hope Mick Fanning doesn't plot revenge and try to rape the shark. That may not end well.

Easy 6 07-20-2015 05:39 PM

This was the best real shark attack clip since... ever.

The board saved his life, that shark was thrashing hard with its tail for a real good bite.

kepp 07-21-2015 07:41 AM

Pretty amazing. But it sounds to me that pro surfing needs a Gus Johnson type announcer. Those guys almost put me to sleep during a shark attack.
