That's it…..

I have been a fan of this franchise for over 30 years now. Through good times and bad, the highs and lows. And frankly, there have been too many gut wrenching lows. I believe I actually lost my mind in the few moments following this abortion of a game.

I finally had to ask myself… "Is it really worth it?" I'm on the edge of lunacy for a franchise that seems to delight in causing it. I was about ready to quit this very night as Denver brought that fumble into the end zone, and I said, "No, that's not fair."

But it does deserve an ultimatum. It is Super Bowl or bust for me this year. Nothing less than the Lamar Hunt Trophy at the end of it is going to keep me emotionally beholden to this team and sport like some sort of battered wife syndrome.

I know nobody else will probably really care. What's one anonymous Chief's fan in California? But, its a big deal to me. I held season tickets while lived there. Partied in the parking lots. But its just not worth it to me any longer to be out here, away from any semblance of game day atmosphere, and sit in front of my TV set to watch my team continually lose every meaningful game it plays. There is absolutely no payoff to it or for it.

But, I'm going to give them this season. I'm going to root very hard for them because I do think they have a decent opportunity this year. And if it doesn't end with at least an AFC Championship, I'm going to walk away. I just can't find the upside to it any more.

They are committed. They have assembled 80% of what they need. We just have a head coach who can't learn from his mistakes.

They broke me after the playoff loss to Indy (you know which one). I can't imagine how angry I would be after this loss if I was as emotionally invested as I was prior to that playoff loss.

That's the good part and the sad part of tonight's game. I thought maybe I could start to enjoy it again, but then when they did ... all that ... it confirmed that I didn't really care. My connection to the team broke a couple of years ago, so wins and losses are just a shrug. It's all just a show.

Yep. Just a game. I laughed to be honest. I mean...for gods sake how incredibly stupid. But when I see grown men lose their shit over NFL games I just feel bad that I used to be like that. Life's too short to be miserable over it. It was a damn entertaining game with a shit ending. And besides, it's only week 2. Spot on. Stopped being emotionally invested during the Pioli years. We went to the home opener last year. It was the first game I'd been to where I still had my voice when I got home. Losses really don't bother me and haven't for some time.

I do still watch them and enjoy when they win. I now just don't get bothered when they lose.

Oh, this franchise is committed to winning (enough to keep fans engaged, the stadium and parking lots full).

It's just not committed to building a winner around a legitimate, top-notch QB. Which give you the best odds to win what matters.

You can still be a huge Chiefs fan and not get truly upset at a loss. Even an absurd one such as tonight. And i know people wanna say we're cursed and this shit always happens to us, but we've been on the other end of it before too. I remember a Halloween game on Monday night where Rivers fumbled a snap that took away a sure victory for the Chargers. I remember Dwayne Rudd tossing his helmet and giving us a field goal win with no time on the clock. I remember beating Oakland when they had us beat by hooking up with Rison in the endzone. I also remember beating them with a dumpoff pass to Larry Johnson who took it nearly 80 yards down to the 1 yard line and we went for the victory and got it. I remember a game where the ref got in the way of an Oakland receiver leading to a James Hasty pick 6. I remember beating Denver because Dante Hall took a punt inside the 5 yard line and juked out their whole team. So yeah, we've taken our share of knocks but we've stolen some of our own before.

Yeah you said that already. Are you the NFL fan version of Groot? I just watch the games on television and hope for the best. Then move on with things that actually matter. If that's somehow not the "kind of fan" that is acceptable to you, I couldn't give two fairy ****s on a fish tit. I gave up being emotionally invested in the team a long while ago. Because I decided that it's entirely reeruned to do so.

Yep, I agree with the sarcasm. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and for those who can carry it off, good for you. But for me, there's little point to watch if I'm not invested. I mean, KU basketball gives me a National Championship once every 20 years or so, but at least they give me something! I'm not even demanding a Super Bowl victory, just and AFC Championship once every 20 years. It wouldn't take much!

Nope. The best thing to do will be to just walk away from it all. I'll never root for another team, but I won't let this one keep ripping my heart out year after year without anything to show for it at least once every couple of decades. After this year, that is. I'm not naive enough to think the season is shot after one game, two games into the year. But I've seen this movie before, and just like most horror flicks, its going to be filled with a lot of dumb decisions that will eventually leave everyone with their heart ripped out.

Why Not? 09-18-2015 12:05 AM

Well I still get emotionally invested in the games but there a lot easier to move past once the game is over. And I can choose to invest my time more wisely when I know they have no chance. For instance, I'm not sure what I'll be doing next Monday night but I can garuntee you I won't be watching the Chiefs game.

I want a Super Bowl VICTORY.

THIS YEAR.

PERIOD.

MAKE IT HAPPEN.

BITCHES.

No, seriously I'm right there with you.

It's not worth it. Last year I specifically asked for no Chiefs gear. I not only don't want to give Chunt a single dollar of my $$ directly, I dont want my family to either. I also didn't renew for Dtv (even with the huge discount).

The only games I've been to, other people have given me tix - and i ride with them, because i won't even pay to park...I bring in food, tailgate before, bring in a flask....

**** it. It's a good time with friends...but it's like pro wrestling. It's all WWE.

the last time I got this emotionally invested in a game was the Colts playoff...and I got invested in this one, carried away in the hype.

"This could be it!!"

No, dipshit. It's the same old shitshow I've always watched.

It was like I was watching a rerun.

The sad thing is that they'll use Alex Smith next year and draft a Tackle first round in the draft.

Hammock Parties 09-18-2015 12:24 AM

You just need to treat the Chiefs as the clown shoes circus freaks they are until they draft a QB.

That's what I decided to do five years ago. I don't get as excited for the good stuff, which kinda sucks, but I know I won't be emotionally devastated in winter.

I'm waiting for us to burn a first-round pick on a guy like Chad Pennington for my next mental breakdown.

I'll go in with my preconceived, all-consuming notion that a first-round QB is the be all end all, and the one true path to sports fan ecstasy. And he'll get the Chiefs to the playoffs and I'll be like SEE! SEE! HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN! I'll be as happy as I was when Damon Huard was slinging it.

And then he'll blow it in the playoffs and I'll get fat again.

But that won't stop me from believing. I'll then believe that said R1QB just needs another year to develop and he'll get it right. And eventually I'll be this guy:

Seriously I cried after Indy Game I was in tatters, but hey you get over it. I have accepted this one very quickly. I reminded myself what I said yesterday that it is almost too early in the season for it make or make.

I just hope Reid learns from this that we have a great defense and potentially a great running game with TE's that can make plays in the passing game. This should be the focus of the team going forward.

Fans put themselves through hell because they were born into it.

Very few had a choice when figuring out which team they would put their false hope into.

After next 2 weeks of loses, at least our false hope will be tempered somewhat.

Yeah.

I've watched the NFL all my life - my demographic (late 20s/early 30s, single dad, some disposable income, etc.) Should be who the NFL wants to consume their product. I used to be the key demographic...the NFL was for me.

It has now devolved to something somewhat akin to being a WWE for football fans.

They obviously don't care if me and my friends keep going to games, buying jerseys, etc...

But that begs the questions : if we aren't the target demographic anymore, who really is, and what happened to MY game??

Losing this game is always the hardest for me. It's a game I feel like KC has to win to take the next step. At home against the toughest division rival. This is the game where I want the team to rise to the occasion. To come out looking like they want it more. Play like they are simply the better team.

Oh well. The Chiefs are a good team and will have some fun games this year and it will be much more enjoyable than going 2-14.

They're the dumbest team in the NFL and they have been for decades.

My connection to the team broke a couple of years ago, so wins and losses are just a shrug. It's all just a show.

Yep

"I'm a Hulkamaniac for LIFE!!"

Well, you obviously haven't been watching them fail miserably your whole life like I have then.

It gets old, having your heart ripped out and held in front of your face as it still beats...

I wish I could, but I already invested in the year. Read all the preseason hype, bought into the offseason moves, got excited about the upcoming season. It would just be a false promise because I would always be checking to see how they're doing. But if there's no Hunt Trophy for the Chiefs at the end of this ride, I'm done. I realize its different for a lot of you because you live in or near KC. There are lots of people for you to celebrate with or to console one another. To get together with on Sundays.

Its not like that for me anymore. I enjoy living out here in California, but there is not that atmosphere out here. Its too hard to suffer a franchise like this and not have ANYTHING to show for it. My family avoids me during game time and probably with good reason! If I was still in the KC area, it probably wouldn't come to this because I would still enjoy the opportunity to get together with friends to watch. But, when you're by yourself, there's no reason to keep going through this shit. Win something for crying out loud.

Well, I'm not a sucker.

The NFL is selling a product.

The product called KC Chiefs has been lacking, really since about 93, but I started noticing it around 99.

Now...if they want to keep my $$ and my interest and loyalty, I'm with HolyHandgernade - I need something to show for it.

If they are going to keep a shit coach who doesn't realize that Alex Smith is not Drew ****ing Brees, and that he has the leading rusher in ypc in the HISTORY OF THE NFL in his ****ing backfield...

IF THIS ORGANIZATION IS TOO ****ING INCOMPETENT TO FIELD A COACHING STAFF CAPABLE OF CONSISTENT GAME CLOCK MANAGEMENT, THEN THEY ARE A LOW-RENT, DIVE ORGANAZATION JUST BLEEDING THE WALLETS OF SUCKERS.

Just the facts.

It's like a toxic relationship. The good is really good and the bad seems to bring out the worst in me. This is a personality flaw on my end, but its a recognized flaw.

I am now choosing to be significantly less invested.

CanadianChiefs 09-18-2015 09:28 AM

I haven't posted since our hopes were dashed last year, I'm just a lurker and should probably stay that way because I have nothing constructive to add.

But last night, all I could do was laugh after the JC fumble. I've never laughed that hard at a chiefs loss before; it was just absolutely hilarious. The INDY loss was a slow burn and one hell of a comeback, only thing that makes that worse was the playoffs. Theres one thing to blow a huge lead, but to lose in that fashion...

I mean the end of the second quarter game management and the pick, the turnovers in the red zone (first drive, and the hilarious lob by Smith). Reid wasting a timeout in the second quarter to give up a TD on the next play, and him calling a timeout in the fourth to give up a TD after. Then the JC fumble and scoop for the winning TD. Not to mention the brutal dropped would be interceptions by Fleming and Abdullah.

Go chiefs.

ROFL

There are dipshits on this board right now who still defend Reid and swear he's a good coach!!!

How many Chiefs Kingdom Points do I have to spend for the privilege of washing the poop stains out of their nifty red pants? I'm a real fan, y'know.

Yeah because that was they only play in the whole game.

Only a ****ing moron thinks a football game comes down to one play.

There's no way that game should've been that close.

Better coaching and KC wins by at least 2 TDs, EASY

rabblerouser 09-18-2015 12:57 PM

Either Andy Reid is terrible and ownership doesn't care because the team is so talented that will invariably win more than they lose, and that keeps the seats full and ownership happy...

Or it's rigged and Reid throws games intentionally.

Otherwise, no one who calls themselves an NFL Head Coach would make such baffling moronic decisions during the course of a game. A 1st year guy might make some mistakes...he's supposed to be a veteran coach. Why all the rookie mistakes??

It doesn't add up.

Andy Reid didn't have 3 fumbles. Andy Reid didn't throw the pass with a corner sitting on the route. Andy Reid didn't hit Alex's arm on the second INT. Reid can take some blame for some bad play calling, but this is far more on the players than him

Well, ****ing dumbass, it's trivia time :

what idiot coach has the leading ypc RB in NFL history in his backfield and from 1st and goal from the 2, decides to throw the ball BEHIND THE LOS 3 times, losing 4 yds on the 1st two and putting the receiver in a bad position on the 3rd causing a fumble, instead of giving the ball to Charles from the 2??

(HINT : He's fat, stupid, and sucks)

Score from the 2, then be up 21-0.

Changes the complexion of the game entirely.

And that not to mention the absolute shitshow at the end of the 1st half (of which Reid was absolutely directly responsible for).

They threw this game away in the first half if you were paying attention.
