MRSA Ends Giants' TE Fells' Career

http://bigblueblitz.com/new-york-gia...ection/]Source

Quote:

Daniel Fells‘ MRSA infection is “far more serious than has originally been reported,” and the condition has been life-threatening at times, with doctors advising Fells that they might remove his foot in order to prevent the infection from spreading throughout his body, a source told Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (Oct. 12).

According to Cole’s source, Fells is doing well at this point in time. However, since Fells has already had parts of the foot removed, his NFL career is over.

CanadianChiefs 10-12-2015 07:36 PM

MRSA is from bad facility conditions right? Isn't that what Tynes and some others got in Tampa?

53 jocks in a close humid environment is a breeding ground for bacteria. Could happen in any locker room

Can be. But sometimes it just happens. I got it last winter in an ingrown hair. It went from a little red spot to ****ing nuclear in like 36 hours.

Fortunately it didn't get in my blood stream.

My daughter had it too but it wasn't as aggressive.

Staph is everywhere.

But yeah. They probably have a settlement coming

Mr. Laz 10-12-2015 08:11 PM

MRSA is some badass shit

nothing to mess with, some kind of uber infection that's very resistant to antibiotics

I killed mine with antibiotics. Just not menoccous (sp?) based antibiotics.

Buehler445 10-12-2015 08:19 PM

But you're right. Staph infections in general can be stupid aggressive.

DaneMcCloud 10-12-2015 08:20 PM

Dude's gonna lose his foot because the Giants didn't bleach their lockerrooms and showers.

I hope he sues them for a billion and owns the Giants when it's all said and done.

I heard they were considering amputation. Thank God mine didn't get that bad.

Brock 10-12-2015 08:26 PM

I need to remember to wash my hands when I'm leaving the gym

Not sure that will help. Bleach kills it but taking a bleach bath is not fun. I bought some shit called hibiclens. It is terrible. But better than bleach.

JPP and a brick of Black Cats will fix him up in no time.

Methicillin.

It's funky shit. When I was in college I worked in a micro lab for a dairy company testing samples etc.

I made all the growth media and had to do controls to make sure it was correctly formulated. Had to wear a hazmat suite in the growth room because they just had samples of some funky shit. I remember mrsa being one, don't remember the others

That's chlorhexidine. It works along the same principle of killing the bacteria via oxidation, and both effectively form hypochlorous acid when doing so.

Besides, "bleach" is really 5% sodium hypochlorite.

Just want until some bacteria strains with NDM plasmids get out into the general population. It's going to be awful.

O.city 10-12-2015 08:42 PM

I use bleach every time I do a root canal. It's a great disinfectant. Shove that shit down a nerve, kills everything.

Three things though, never let it get in the pts mouth around the rubber dam, never extrude it out the end of the apex (seriously, look up sodium hypochlorite dental incidents, it's awful)

And 3rd and most important, never say your using bleach. It's always sodium hypochlorite.

I was always nervous about some of the shit we used when I was in school. In virology, some of that shit is crazy.

My Grandmother got it during a hip replacement.

fought it until the day she died

shawnee mission hospital is an infection station

3 relatives all got serious infection during surgery there

Sorter 10-12-2015 09:50 PM

I've had 3 different staff infections.

The scars aren't bad.

DaneMcCloud 10-12-2015 09:52 PM

I haven't been in a lockerroom in forever but don't guys still wear flip flops 24/7, even in the shower?

You'll find a lot of hospitals start to use equipment with embedded copper in it, as it is a cheap, natural disinfectant.

Mine never got to the Kevin Randleman stage.

ChiliConCarnage 10-13-2015 04:07 AM

This ended Lecharles Bentleys career too.
A bit scary

You get staph infections through an open wound, right?

It doesn't have to be much. Mine was an ingrown hair.

Doesn't have to be an open wound you could get ring worm. Another High school here in town the football team had 5 kids getting staph. And their wrestling room some kids got staph too.

That's scary.

I thought the only people that had to worry about those were with weakened immune systems.

But maybe they're just at greater risk because I've heard several cases of young professional athletes getting it.

Hydrae 10-13-2015 10:14 AM

MRSA killed my SIL. She picked it up in the hospital and it was right downhill from there. She fought it for about 6 months but with her other health issues (diabetes due to weight issues, self imposed in many ways) she really had no real chance.

That or really bad hygiene

bevischief 10-13-2015 11:49 AM

They can hopefully cure that, but not craps down his leg QB. Old Yeller.

Will anti bacterial soap kill it?

Because I was told by CP it was worthless.

If it does I will slather it on because beach will dry me out.

you should try drinking some chicken thaw juice

bevischief 10-13-2015 01:39 PM

Anti-freeze is cheaper and quicker...

I had a friend die from a staph infection. He was only in his 30s. He had moved to VEgas and I had lost touch with him, but I heard from mutual friends that he had done a good job turning his life around. Then staph infection and dead. WTF?!?

"Turned his life around". Was he into drugs?

srvy 10-13-2015 02:29 PM

He would still have his pro football career if only he used axe shower gels. CP told me so.

Baby Lee 10-13-2015 02:36 PM

My Grandma got a rash right after being in a care facility for falling and breaking her clavicle. Her dumbass doctor brought up it maybe being MRSA, and did NOTHING about it.

We eventually got her to a dermatologist who diagnosed her with a medication reaction, but I was steady yelling at my parents 'why are they treating this so blithely?!?!'

Turns out afterwards, my mom said the chick doctor didn't have a diagnosis initially and suggested MRSA after basically plugging symptoms into WebMD like some ****ing housewife.

I had dinner at someone's house a few months ago, and her husband (who I hadn't met) had obvious back issues. At one point he volunteered, "I have Mercer's Disease and it settled into my spine."

I'd never heard of Mercer's Disease, so when we got home I looked it up and then washed my hands in horror for about a week straight. Should you really be cooking dinner for people when you have that?

Methicillin =/= triclosan.

Methicillin is a beta lactam that works via lysis of the bacterial cell well. MRSA is particularly hard to treat because a cleft where the active agent could attach is effectively blocked.

Triclosan is only bacteriostatic via inhibition of fatty acid synthesis. Once it is gone the bacteria resumes growing.

presuming the needle and vial are secure and sanitary, can fells be a host that carries this to other lockerooms prior to his level of infection.
