Shamesong - Your lamest favorite song

Caught this in passing recently and had forgotten how pleasant it was. Turns out, a lot of my friends had all but forgotten it, yet got emotional just listening to a few bars.

By all rights, this should be the poster song for everything wrong with that era, but it survives on, I don't know what, simplicity, earnestness.

Not to say this is my 'favorite favorite' song, but it's pretty impressive, and a little perplexing, how well it holds up.

Not lame at all...

GloucesterChief 12-03-2015 07:09 PM

Probably a lot of the music I like. I found I have a distinct taste for cheese when it comes to music. So lets start off with two:

I'm not going for out and out lame. That's too easy [guilty pleasure].

I'm talking about the song that might be considered lame by some objective standard, but you like it enough to defend it if called into service to do so.

Both Fast Car and Sister Christian are probably too widely loved to have to be defended, but there's enough 'lameness' given time for me not to object to their submission.

Rausch 12-03-2015 07:19 PM

Juliette Lewis "Hardly Wait" from the movie Strange Days.

It depends on how big the video window was when you got the embed code. You can either make the video smaller and get a new code, or manually change the parameters. If I could remember it, I'd give it, but it has something to do with 'size=' in the code.

EDIT: no, in your case it has to do with 'frameheight' and width.

Baby Lee 12-03-2015 09:49 PM

Against All Odds is legit one of my favorite ballads from that decade.

I'll fist fight anyone who has a bad word for it.

If my wife was picking out stuff from my music to post here, she would definitely post my Rod Stewart stuff. I have most of his albums up until he turned into a lounge act. A lot of his 80's stuff wasn't very good but there were some good songs thrown in there. A lot of his 70's stuff was really good and, surprisingly, so was a lot of his 90's stuff..

There's enough 80's cheese in here (I already passed on 'Africa') that I figured I'd put in some variety. I don't know if it violates the spirit of the OP (which seems to suggest heartstrings and what not), but I'm definitely ashamed of liking this song.

DJ's left nut 12-09-2015 10:13 AM

If it has to be emotionally sappy, I'll nominate these:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JcG5SJvhcMw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> or

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9pQo9OQlIB8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

(the Jimmy Eat World one genuinely caught me off guard the first time I heard it. I'm mostly a hard-hearted sumbitch but I think I recall the room getting dusty for this one...)

And if I'm required to stick with the older stuff:

I can recall that, the year this came out, I was mad that this was not the #1 song of the year on Casey Kasem's Year End Top 100. It was something like #85, what a sheltered life, me and my little clock radio tuned to Q104. Not even cool enough for KY102.

Man, I can't do Taylor Swift. I just can't do it. Just. Can't. Do. It.

Jimmy Eat World, though. That shit is good. I don't necessarily see shame in sappy stuff. Those are all pretty decent.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JcG5SJvhcMw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> or

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9pQo9OQlIB8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

(the Jimmy Eat World one genuinely caught me off guard the first time I heard it. I'm mostly a hard-hearted sumbitch but I think I recall the room getting dusty for this one...)

And if I'm required to stick with the older stuff:

Cranberries good

Lisa Loeb :Lin: God I hate that song.

Not as many people like their bubblegum phase. I like their rocking phase (Ballroom Blitz, Fox on the Run, Hell Raiser, etc) but have a soft spot for their bubblegum stuff too.

Nope. I grew up during the '70's and still have my Babys albums from then. I've also been on a tear lately going back and picking up stuff from the 70's that I wasn't into at the time (like ELO).

Initially, I just liked this video because of the Models. I ended up really liking the song. :)

I'm 45 so it's a bit before my time, but I do remember some from the late 70s.

I think most of it comes from the fact that my parents were in their 30s during the 70s and hearing it on the radio.

I graduated high school in 1982 so it was mid to late 70's for me. The funny thing is that at the time I was more into classic or hard rock so a lot of the stuff I am getting now is actually fairly new to me, though I remember some of the songs on the radio.

Freaking love that Dirty Vegas song. Shouldn't be on the shame list imo.

I used to be so in lust with Belinda Carlisle. She was smoking hot back in the Go Go's days.
