The punter is kind of like an American League pitcher. He's allowed to throw at people's heads all day long and there's no way to directly retaliate.

Hekker will likely be fined by the NFL this week, a rarity for a punter but a justifiable move by the league in this case.


So Hekker was penalized for the hit? It did look like it could be penalized.

I would have loved for Hekker to grab one of them by the facemask, bring them in close, yell "GIVE ME BACK MY SHIRT", and then pushed him away.

It seems pretty weak, but it's technically a blindside block, which is a point of emphasis for the NFL this year.

Regardless, it's just a ridiculously stupid move - especially for a punter.

Bennett seems to really have a burr under the saddle about this. I understand sticking up for your QB, etc., but I think that chasing after the punter because he knocked into a linebacker was a little excessive...although, I guess that you do have to establish parameters and boundaries for such position players like the punters as they could literally get wiped out nearly every time they are on the field in a blocking scenario.

Hekker probably should have just done what he was supposed to do and let Avril be, but Avril took care of his own shit. Bennett didn't need to jump up and play big brother to Avril after the fact, especially to a punter whose already gone to the fetal position.

All in all, no harm done and will probably stand as an example to punters across the league.

Actually, they fine Hekker because they don't want dumb ass punters getting annhilated every time they are on the field. The league makes an example of him to make sure that punters don't get targeted unnecessarily. You make sure that punters don't do that type of shit ever.

I haven't seen someone avoid being hit in a such a manner since the last time Peyton fell down to avoid a hit.

the bigger question is..how does a guy that does work out drugs/supplements and works out all day and hits people,get pushed over by a guy with no upper body training or at least very little compared to the other guy

They're not blocks of granite. They're people, and in this case he was jogging and completely unprepared.

I'm not an NFL-sized guy but I could probably get most non-linemen to the ground if threw myself into them completely blind-sided.
