Jamarcus Russell says he'd play for free for 2nd chance

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/...another-chance

Quote:

"God makes things happen for a reason," Russell said in a video for Sports Illustrated. "Who's to say? You might see me back. You never know, man. You never know. ... Whatever it is -- I can be a water boy and work my way into a scout team. It doesn't matter. I'll go play for free."

BlackHelicopters 04-26-2016 08:34 AM

Would he play for Golden Corral coupons?

Rain Man 04-26-2016 08:35 AM

I don't think the Department of Labor allows that.

Call it an internship.

Hope he gets another shot. Even if it's just during training camp as the the 4th stringer, he will still have a serviceable arm I'm sure.

If Palko was able to play in the league surely he can earn a practice squad spot.

This. If he really wants to make it happen, he has the talent. He just has to get over being JaFatcus.

The Franchise 04-26-2016 09:01 AM

Sign him to the practice squad. **** it.

BlackHelicopters 04-26-2016 09:03 AM

Has he quit using purple draaaaaaaaank?

WhawhaWhat 04-26-2016 09:03 AM

Sign him as a third stringer.

listopencil 04-26-2016 09:03 AM

1) I'm sure every 31 year old ex athlete that washed out of the NFL would say the same thing.

2) God didn't make anything happen. JaMarcus did, and it was ugly.

3) Stop watching watching old Prince videos when you sit at home on your coach. It's 2016.

cdcox 04-26-2016 09:04 AM

He's been in the comeback trail, working out with private trainers and trying to loose weight, for more than 2 years. If it was going to happen, it would have happened by now.

Dante84 04-26-2016 09:05 AM

Veteran Minimum would prevent that.

Unpaid internship.

Quesadilla Joe 04-26-2016 09:11 AM

I think Russell played too much to have any practice squad eligibility left.

Chiefsplanet... Give a roster spot to Jamarcus Russell

Hydrae 04-26-2016 09:36 AM

Go play in Canada

His time has come and gone.

Fish 04-26-2016 09:57 AM

How hilarious would it be if a team signed him and just kept him as the water boy?

Funnier than Nun with hepatitis.

Yeah him and Ray rice.

ping2000 04-26-2016 11:10 AM

Free is too much. He should have to pay to play.

Well, to be fair, JaMarcus didn't make anything happen either and that's why he's where he's at.

Also, that poor poor coach....RIP.

Kman34 06-29-2024 11:46 AM

Raiders fans taught him well.

Pablo 06-29-2024 12:30 PM

Hey at least he didn't Sandusky any youth. I'd figure that's always in a Raider's bag.

Pasta Little Brioni 06-29-2024 12:31 PM

Wow...that is rock bottom

Flying High D 06-29-2024 12:48 PM

He was just being resourceful.

Red Dawg 06-29-2024 12:53 PM

He's blown most of the money. He will be broke soon.

T-post Tom 06-29-2024 12:57 PM

These riches-to-rags stories of former athletes always leaves me scratching my head. Seems impossible with all of the financial support and resources that players receive in the modern NFL. Maybe Al Davis is haunting Russell from the great beyond. Payback for the purple drank, blank DVD and poor performance. :hmmm:

BWillie 06-29-2024 01:05 PM

That train left the station over a decade ago.

Kman34 06-29-2024 03:05 PM

He was invited back into the NFL in a game tape but he didn’t watch it..

FloridaMan88 06-29-2024 06:49 PM

He was a volunteer coach… he got fired from being a volunteer.

That’s bad.

Flying High D 06-29-2024 07:41 PM

He’s just misunderstood.

displacedinMN 06-29-2024 07:52 PM

This is almost ryan leaf material

TLO 06-29-2024 08:15 PM

I'm kind of surprised he's still alive, tbh.

Rasputin 06-30-2024 09:12 AM

He should pay back the Raiders, but wait, it's the Raiders **** the Raiders.

gblowfish 06-30-2024 09:34 AM

Just a reminder, Purple Drank beat the Chiefs TWICE in his career, once in 2008 and once in 2009. He threw for 55 yards in the first win, 109 in the second. He had a career .500 record against us while only completing 34 percent of his passes. One coach who lost to him was Squirmin' Herman, the other was Todd One Finger Salute Haley. Thank God those days are over.

I am not surprised since he is likely broke

Those weren't really the chiefs, though. They were just a placeholder until the real Chiefs arrived.

Sounds like he collected a $74k salary on his own accord.
