NBA Off-season 2016 thread

The Cavs came back and smacked the very soft Warriors down. Lebron proved he was the best player by far in the league. The NBA draft on June 23rd.

4 Phoenix Suns
5 Minnesota Timberwolves
6 New Orleans Pelicans
7 Denver Nuggets

11 Orlando Magic
12 Utah Jazz
13 Phoenix Suns
14 Chicago Bulls
15 Denver Nuggets
16 Boston Celtics
17 Memphis Grizzlies
18 Detroit Pistons
19 Denver Nuggets

30 Golden State Warriors

The Franchise 06-20-2016 12:01 PM

My Suns will suck again.

Marco Polo 06-20-2016 12:02 PM

Living in Denver, hope that the Nuggets can either trade some of their three first rounders for an elite player (Love, Cousins, etc.) or get a top SG from the draft (Murray, Hield, etc.).

DJ's left nut 06-20-2016 12:11 PM

Same hope as every year in recent history: I'm just hopeful that little Jimmy Buss doesn't do anything incredibly stupid.

Hydrae 06-20-2016 12:15 PM

Eh, Blazers don't have a pick so no interest for me. :sulk:

dirk digler 06-20-2016 01:12 PM

It is going to be an interesting off season with the 2 biggest question marks being what is KD and Lebron going to do.

GS\Miami are going to go hard at KD but I think he stays for 1-2 more years. I don't think there is much doubt that Lebron will stay. You don't just leave a team that just won a NBA championship.

Bundy as far your team goes your owner was apparently pissed last night and said they are going to be very aggressive. As I said in the game thread I think they will be back in the Finals next year. If I was them I would try as hard as possible to get KD but I would also try just as hard to get Hassan Whiteside. If they had a guy like that manning the middle they would have swept that series.

there are rumors they may trade Russell for a draft pick.. and i'm very pissed at that. I think Russell is the future.. he has all the potential in the world.

Word on the street for the past week is that not only are they staying at #2, they're also looking to move De'Angelo Russell for a top pick.

IMO, that needs to happen. He's burned too many bridges in the locker room.

Idk man, most of the lockerroom is open to be moved, he was young, and Nick Young was the dumbass telling a 19 kid grown people business.

I want the Bulls to move rose and get Russell from LAL.

Bogut is better defensively than Whiteside. Also a much better playmaker. His absence was felt.

Durant re-sign to OKC....plllleeassee please. I think GSW losing may actually help, a very small amt. I don't know why he would go anywhere else in the West myself. I could see Spurs I guess, but I would head out East if I was him.

Colangelos I'm looking at you. Hinkie didnt fall on the sword for the crap thats about to happen

KD should stay in OKC. That roster is excellent and he's got a good coach.

RustShack 06-20-2016 05:28 PM

Can't see LeBron leaving again. He only signed the short deal in the first place because he knew how big the cap would get this off season. He has Kyrie and the couch he wants in Cleveland too... Oh and they just won.

Apparently the 76'ers are drafting Ben Simmons #1 and told him that today according to Windhorst.

I've heard that Ingram is automatically the next guy to go (Lakers), but that Buddy Hield killed it in his pre-draft workout in Los Angeles on Saturday. Any chance they draft him instead?

I think the Sixers end up with Simmons and hield

DJ's left nut 06-21-2016 12:57 PM

I think it's possible that the Lakers look to trade Russell for a top 5 pick that they then use on Hield but I can't see them spending #2 on him. Ingram's just a far FAR superior long-term prospect.

Hield's upside is Klay Thompson; a great set shooter with passable handles and court vision. Ingram's upside is Anthony Davis. Neither one of them are likely to approach that level, but Ingram just presents far more versatility and while Hield can be an exceptional complementary piece, I don't think he can be a cornerstone player. Ingram could be and the Lakers cannot pass on that possibility.

I think the rumored trade of Nerlens Noel to the Celtics for the #3 (and then take PG of the future Kris Dunn) makes a lot of sense. Dunn, Saric, Simmons, Okafor and Embiid (obviously if healthy) not a bad group of young players.

ChiefsCountry 06-21-2016 05:46 PM

I like Dunn alot. I don't think he will be a superstar but a very solid starting PG for 10 plus years.

Is Noel really worth the 3?

I'm not a Philly fan so I haven't watched them really at all but my recollection was that the guy had no offensive game at all to speak of. Has he polished it up there?

I figured something like Clarkson for Noel might work but if the '6ers can get the #3 for him, that's obviously a better return. I figured they'd be stuck looking more in the late lottery range given their pretty poor negotiating position and his questionable offensive role.

O.city 06-22-2016 09:40 AM

Chiefs Pantalones 06-22-2016 10:36 AM

LeBron announced he's staying in Cleveland.

CaliforniaChief 06-22-2016 10:51 AM

I think he said he had "no intention" of leaving Cleveland. Just a clarification. He'll still opt out of his contract, but I would put the odds at about 95% that he stays.

Lakers fans (I'm one) are delusional about LeBron. Also about other major FA's. Just because they're the Lakers. Luke Walton helps. Having Kobe gone helps. Drafting well would help too, and if they're going to move Russell they'd better get something really good back.

Not sure. Can be an elite defender, but offense isn't there yet.

KC_Connection 06-22-2016 01:48 PM

KevB, I told you that somebody out there would be stupid enough to take on the corpse of Derrick Rose. Unsurprisingly, it turned out to be the Knicks.

Bulls instantly become a ton better with this trade while the Knicks should stay more or less the same. I don't know if Chicago can convince Gasol to come back, but if they do, they should be the #2 team in the East next year without that anchor Rose bringing down their offense.

Marco Polo 06-22-2016 01:53 PM

He's gone, and the Bulls are now officially going to be as bad as they were after everyone left when Jordan retired. They even have a crappy coach from ISU to make sure they will be lottery conestants every year.

I've stopped watching them because I cannot stand this owner and this front office. They've needed to clean house with this front office. I wasn't a fan of this hire. I'm probably way off (haven't watched so I don't know player value well) but I was hoping to send Butler and 14 to LAL for Russell and 2. Build with Russell and Ingram.

Why would they be getting Conley? They just traded for their franchise PG, Derrick Rose. LMAO

How about Melo, Parzingis, Rose and Howard? High risk but high upside if Phil Jackson can somehow work his zen magic and make them all perform and gel. Health concerns of course but that's alot of talent. Check this out from March. And now it's coming out both sides are interested. He would make alot of sense there. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/re...-in-offseason/

KC_Connection 06-23-2016 12:28 AM

Adding a bunch of guys who were good five years ago won't make the Knicks good now, no. Should be another hyped failure in a long line of them, though.

According to you they are losing a great defensive center for Drose.

It's a good gamble. He probably needs a change of scenery and if he can stay healthy who knows how he will mesh with Porzingis and Melo. Either he sucks and doesn't return or finds redemption and signs with NY.

I like this move.

Btw, I'll have your avatar ready tomorrow. It's my weekend gift to you kcc.

mcaj22 06-23-2016 04:48 AM

Bulls won that trade, Lopez is a pretty good defensive big in a league with not a lot of good defensive bigs. That's value. Knicks are dumb. Plus if Rose loses his court case NY is going to have a PR nightmare on their hands to start next season lol

Kobe couldn't win a title with Shaq, Malone and Payton.

Had to throw that out there.

May have to start paying attention to the NY media just for that moment when Rose "isn't feeling it" or "has some tightness" and decides to sit out a game or 7.

Malone's knee blew out, end of title hopes. GP was the "mitten" at that point. Chauncey lived on the line and do you really think Kobe was winning a title with that Colorado shit still unresolved? Please, league was not going to allow that shit. no way, no how.

The fact that one of them is almost assuredly going to get moved, speaks volumes about how much the organization likes Embiid. Even moreso because even if you have all the confidence in the world, he was still hurt the last 2 years. Embiid is now 7'2'' and he's been dominating in practice. Everybody has been raving about him. If he can be healthy, Philly might have a superstar on their hands.

Yea and Noel and Okafor are at such low value that the more Embiid gets healthy Noel and Okafor are only going to get lower

With Simmons and Saric coming over theres a complete big guy log jam, I just read the Sixers offered Boston Okafor for the #3 pick and the Celtics WANT MORE. LOL That's a joke.

Also the Celtics trying to lowball the Bucks for Middleton, I don't know why the Bucks would even consider trading him.

I don't understand why they don't want Dunn. I think Dunn will be a fantastic player. At some point they aren't going to have room for all the players they are going to bring in. I like their strategy, I do, acquire as much picks as possible and play the numbers game. One will work out. But when you get a Top 5 pick, use it.
