Why is the NFL important?
What service does it provide? The ability to brag that your demographical location is FAR superior to the others?..Hatfields and McCoy....ape-like territorial piss-wars?...it make no rational sense when you step back and reflect.
The synthetic rivalry is so intense...they can exploit you for $35 to park and $9 a beer....just to show how serious you re about your..."something". It's a joke..being played on all suckers. It doesn't differentiate...just steals your cash. They are a mega-corporation...and their main objective if to exploit you for $$..while acting like they are actual living breathing entities. It's sham 101. #BlackPlauge |
Every castle needs a jester.

Why is it so important to step back before you think about it?
|
Nobody in KC cares about the Vikings....its just Bernays's derivative emotional extortion

My OP was a question..why do you care enough to spend money that toggles into the "gouge" range...
Is the appeal an organic community in a digital world? Is the community more important than the actual sport? I'm essentially asking..why do you give a shit? |

I think the answer is pretty obvious.
For generations, hell centuries, fathers and sons have bonded over sports, and emotional attachments are made to the teams that you've bonded over. That bonding has grown to include mothers and daughters over the last few generations. |
It's something to do.

Life is full of other things
NFL is not that important Fun entertainment but not a requirement or all that important |
Importance of anything depends on what you compare it to. NFL is just for fun. I love it.
|
Its an entertainment service.
People will pay what the market can support for any particular service or good. |

If the made up territorial "wars" and high prices are the basis of your question, you should substitute "NFL" with "all pro sports". If your question is why are pro sports important, I can't give you a worded answer. I would, if I had the ability to do so, take you back in time and drop you off at any gathering in KC on 11/1(into 11/2)of last year, or the parade a few days later. Then we would wisk off to the streets of Cleveland on 6/19. I'm sure your question would be answered there.

Because I like graceful violence, performed at an elite level by world-class athletes, and presented in a neat, dramatic package.
You are a schmuck if you go to every Chiefs game every year, though. |
What the **** is a plauge?

WTF? It's entertainment...just like any other sports league, just like TV, just like (most) books, just like magazines, just like radio, just like music....
|
Ask the Europeans why soccer is so important. Ask avid opera and theater fans why that is so important. Ask people why spending 150.00 to see a concert is so important.
Geez dude, are you even human? |

Take your Progressive Marxist politically correct BS elsewhere !!! American sport is the last bastian of true real American combat outside of the military and even both the military and American sport have been severely hindered by your Progressive ideological ilk and their lawyers who strip us of our rights, property and $$ everyday !! "Progressivism" seeks to gut the American way of Life and especially American Spirit of every American individual every day. You don't see this because you don't know history. Yes, I was political in this forum because YOU were political !! As Patrick Henry said, "Give me Liberty or give me Death" !! Ban me if you must. |

You need a distraction from your shit life and an excuse for your alcoholism. NFL does both.
|
Sure it's rigged, but so is all TV including reality. Do you not watch movies or TV show? Do you just sit inside a cardboard box all day?

Of course it's a mega-corporation. Evey NFL owner just got their $222.6 million for the 2015 season.
Yet taxpayers need to pay for this shit? |

It's entertainment. Entertainment is important.

In its early days, it was cool civic pride. There's still a little of that, but for the most part it's turned into a big life-action movie.

It's not important, but its fun to watch. The good thing about sports is that you really don't have to pay to enjoy it. However, I've never understood the bragging aspect of it and why people feel like they need to talk shit on other fans. It's even more trivial when it comes to college because the ones that talk the most smack either didn't attend the school that they follow or didn't even attend college at all.

If you're referring to why the NFL is popular more so than any other sport in the U.S right now, I think it involves a few things:
1. The sense of cultural belonging to supporting a local football team on a cool, crisp autumn evening or Saturday afternoon in the fall in high school. 2. How relatively inexpensive the sport is when compared to baseball and hockey. 3. The size of the sporting venues are larger than any other sport out there in the U.S. 4. The violence of the sport appeals to our id. 5. The strike of 1994 in MLB caused a fall in the popularity of MLB. |

The better question is 'why would someone with such dislike for a sport or team spend so much time here?"

I know this LIFE is better with football, baseball and fishing and sucks without it.
Also when you take your kids to their first Chiefs game or Royals game or them catch a big fish and that's all they talk about for a year as if it was the greatest day ever then you know that time was special. So is NFL, MLB, Fishing important? They are to me. Then you take them out and do it again because that's what it's all about. |
It's amazing to see Ops transformation into this Claylike cartoon
