***Official Royals @ Red Sox game thread 8/28***

Ventura, 9-9, 4.27 ERA vs Rodriguez, 2-5, 5.11 ERA

This is a huge game. Detroit, Seattle, New York, Houston, and Cleveland all lost today. If we win today, we will be 5.5 games back in the division, 3 games back in the second wildcard, and just 4 games back of the first wildcard spot.

It's time for our Royals to start another long winning streak!

siberian khatru 08-28-2016 03:59 PM

This is pretty much a must-win. Failed to make up ground last night, can't waste another opportunity when it presents itself.

TomBarndtsTwin 08-28-2016 03:59 PM

In for the Win!

CaliforniaChief 08-28-2016 04:01 PM

Could be a nice night. A chance to gain a game on both teams ahead of us in the division, as well as the Mariners, Astros, and Yankees.

Let's do this boys.

Hog's Gone Fishin 08-28-2016 04:01 PM

I HATE late games . and yeah 7 is late ! Specially for a sunday.

It's far from a must win, it would be a great win though.

Jerok 08-28-2016 04:16 PM

If we lose, we went 3 and 3 on a brutal road trip against two playoff quality teams. If we win, we went 4 and 2. But the Royals put themselves in the position that 4 and 2 is pretty huge. It's not a must win because there are 30 some games left, but we can't let games like this slide by, games that we have the pitching matchup in our favor.

In for the win.

I keep hoping Hosmer & Morales get into one of their hot streaks when everything they hit is hard.

I don't see a must win yet. 4 GB of the WC with a home stand coming up against NYY and DET. The Must Wins are next week IMO

siberian khatru 08-28-2016 04:37 PM

I'm sorry, but when you have a chance right in front of you to make up ground on a crowded field -- when the odds already are against you -- you have to win. You can't say, eh, get em next week. You need lots of these chances to present themselves, and you don't know how many are left with so few games remaining.

BIG opportunity tonight -

Simply Red 08-28-2016 05:02 PM

also sorry about yesterday - MLB games are a little more laborsome than NFL game threads. I ran behind & had to rush out. Sorry for that.

I see both points here and neither are necessarily wrong, a lot is contingent on the teams above us, but there really are a lot in the mix - INCLUDING your Kansas City Royals!

I look at it as a giant puzzle. I think 88 games is possible and MAY give us a chance to snag the last WC spot. I assumed we would only get 1 of 3 in Boston while getting to 88 wins, so I'm not going to panick if we lose one tonight.

I don't, however, disagree with your premise: it's good to strike while the iron is hot :)

ROYC75 08-28-2016 05:48 PM

Let's do it!

Simply Red 08-28-2016 06:11 PM

go ahead and call that ball a strike.

Simply Red 08-28-2016 06:14 PM

wish Cain would STOP doing that swinging for the fence thing.

Canofbier 08-28-2016 06:16 PM

Does Cain look a little gimpy after his swings lately or is that just my imagination?

I believe he always walks like that. Always has. Teammates give him shit about it too

Save about a 3 week stretch, Morales has just been a bucket of shit this year.

siberian khatru 08-28-2016 06:22 PM

That fourth pitch to Kendrys was borderline at best and certainly not worth swinging at

why is it you and I know this but the ones getting paid millions can't determine that?

Meatloaf 08-28-2016 06:24 PM

I swear he's gained weight. I think he's outa shape amongst other things. Too bad, as KM was one of my favorites. Up until this year, he always seemed to put a decent at bat together.

ChiTown 08-28-2016 06:24 PM

Pedroia out, thank God. I know it's a Family emergency, but still, thank you Jesus

penbrook 08-28-2016 06:35 PM

Damn Mondesi is fast

Munson 08-28-2016 06:35 PM

Mondesi needs to put a chin strap on his helmet. It falls off every time.

Dartgod 08-28-2016 06:36 PM

That'll do, Paulo. That'll do.

siberian khatru 08-28-2016 06:36 PM

At least Paulo made contact

Jerok 08-28-2016 06:37 PM

Feeling really good about this game, Ventura seemed to have it and this pitcher doesn't.

Simply Red 08-28-2016 06:37 PM

this guy is all over - I'd tell the hitters to ALL wait for 2 strikes - he's clearly not able to find the zone.

Dartgod 08-28-2016 06:37 PM

Cutty swinging at balls 3 and 4.

Simply Red 08-28-2016 06:37 PM

This is on Ned right here. Sorry - dumb to go up swinging right now

Munson 08-28-2016 06:38 PM

Shitty at-bat, Cutty.

siberian khatru 08-28-2016 06:38 PM

Dammit. Sox lucky they're down just 2.

KChiefs1 08-28-2016 06:39 PM

Guy didn't throw Cuthbert one strike yet the dumbass swung anyway.

That's just dumb. Ned can tell them to take pitches all he wants. Doesn't mean they'll do it. He never threw a strike to Cuthbert.

Ned doesn't really manage the game.

Dartgod 08-28-2016 06:42 PM

It's damn near impossible to get a 1-2-3 inning on these guys.

then he's not much of a manager - Bobby Cox had that kind of control -

I don't really know the Royal's outside of this year - maybe a little last year.

But Bobby Cox absolutely could and did have that kind of control over his team from the 90's - maybe that's a dated management technique. I assumed it was the same 'across the board' but I guess not - considering they should be up by 4 runs right now and aren't because they have/had practically zero plate patience.

ChiTown 08-28-2016 06:50 PM

Out of the inning, but a lot of wasted pitches.

Let's get after this guy and chase him out early!
