Protocol: Throwing an apple core out your car window.
I was driving in a very rural area today, and I enjoyed a nice crisp apple while I drove.
Now, the challenge with apples and driving is that you eventually end up with an apple core, which most people don't eat. So I'm driving, and I think that I should throw the apple core out the window. It's 100 percent biodegradable, right? But I couldn't do it. I'm so trained to not throw trash out the window that I couldn't do it. It wasn't even a fear of public shaming if someone saw and misunderstood; it was pure habit and training. I feel like it's actually probably more environmentally responsible to throw it out the window rather than putting it in a trash can and transporting it to a landfill. But I still couldn't do it. What's your opinion on throwing apple cores out car windows? I'm not sure whether the prefix here should be "Home and Auto" or "Food and Drink", so I hope it doesn't confuse anyone. |
Ohh yeah. Extra points for bouncing directly down the road until complete disintegration...
|
Raccoons and opossums gotta eat too.
|
If it's organic it's not littering.
|
It's probably fine in a rural area only and also with no cars around you to hit.
|
Throwing ice out the window sucks. Could pop a tire.
|
Anytime that I eat a banana, I throw the peel out the window. When I eat an apple, I throw the core out the window. Actually, anytime that I am eating something and decide that I no longer want it, I throw it out the window.
But, only if there's a large grassy/nature area that I can throw it in. I don't throw things in streets or on highways, etc, etc. It's only into nature areas. |
The best way to be sure you have apple trees along your route, is to throw apple cores out the window. This was how Johnny Appleseed was discovered.

and yes, you are going to hell for not simply chucking it while driving. had you been pulled over, you could have been easily killed for mistaken apple/gun. |

I threw a bag of boar semen out the window once but I didn't feel bad because the objective of hitting the passing truck was met.
|
Save all you non biodegradables for an Oklahoma road trip.
|
Even a cop will say since its compost, it is not a fine. Made a fine lunch for a critter. Don't feel guilty. Don't throw it at other cars. Just former students you do not like.
|
I keep a trash bag in my car.
|
I also keep a refuse container in my vehicle.
|
Dump your garbages anywhere in Kansas. You may refer to the act as "Division 32, Exterior Improvements".
Thank you. |
Does it have a chance to hit Alex Smith? If so, without hesitation.

As far as the actual topic at hand, I have no problem throwing biodegradables out the window in appropriate areas.

In all probability, you would be tossing the apple in an horizontal trajectory. By tossing the apple, you become Alex Smith. Ergo, you would have a better chance at hitting Charles or Kelce. |
Back when I smoked, I'd throw a cigar out the window, but not a cigarette. I toss apple cores as well, but throwing anything except a teenager out of the car doesn't feel quite right.

Toss that sucker.
its not like its a plastic bottle or a sack of old mcdonalds |
I had this argument with my wife just yesterday about a pizza crust.
|
Thanks for luring the deer to the highway, jerk.
|
I got a $110 ticket for throwing a banana peel out the window. Yes, it was perfectly organic, and yes, it made it into the grass but no, the police officer didn't care. As far as he and my $110 were concerned, it was littering.
That said, as long as there was no cop right behind me, I'd still do it again. |

There's absolutely no way I'd risk throwing a banana peel or apple outside of my car window while driving, as it would cost me $500 dollars or more.
Plus, I'm not a litterer and rarely, if ever, eat in the car. |

Deer, birds, raccoons... |
You hope you're a passenger in the car and you get a chance to whip that sucker at a sign doing 50 mph.
Oh, we weren't talking about beer bottles were we? Throw the apple core. Return it to the earth. |
So far, it appears that roughly 90 percent would take no issue with a thrown apple core, with some caveats that it's not thrown into a yard or a city street. However, there may be legal risk in throwing the apple, and the benefits to wildlife might be offset by luring them into traffic. It appears that there's no downside environmentally in anyone's mind, and there's an entertainment benefit in trying to hit something with it.

My brother just totaled his car last week by a deer.
This summer I killed Bambi with my Tahoe but what I think is even more a nuisance are Armo****ingdilloes. I thought I would clear one but nope ****er jumped up and I had to replace my coolant reservoir. I bet what happened was some asshole through out an apple core out the window and it gathered bugs and the armo****ingdillo got into the middle of the road. Thanks a lot asshole for throwing out an apple core. |
I walked home from the mall today through a residential neighborhood, and I saw an apple core lying against the curb.

I wing apple cores right out the window. Bonus it attracts cute little furry critters out to the road where they become road pizzas for scavengers

Wouldn't be eating and driving.

i just want to keep all the popo's busy while the good stuff is being produced :D |
I eat the entire apple at the times the GF slices it up for me. Otherwise I won't eat the core part.
Feel a little twinge about it, then I imagine the woodland creatures feasting on my apple remains, so I'll go ahead and toss it out anyway. |
I throw tons of shit out the window in rural areas. Biodegradable or not. Never in a city though. But I text when I drive and dont care about the environment at all either
|
Quote:
Why not in a city where there are people paid to clean that shit up, but do it in the country where most people actually care about their land and are stuck cleaning up after you. You're scared to be seen doing it. ****ing asshole |

Oh yeah, I also mount my phone to my windshield and watch movies during long trips. Its absolutely fantastic and makes the trip go so much smoother. Kudos to Verizon for providing wonderful streaming Internet on any interstate or major highways |

Can't say I'd be "without hesitation" although my delay would be to make sure there wasn't anybody around. I know it's okay, that's enough. Its not a conversation I want to have with a concerned citizen bystander, or a cop.

As for Apple cores, chuck away. |

I wouldn't do it myself but I have no problem if it's just an apple core. People that throw cigarette butts, QuikTrip cups or anything like that out of their car are terrible people and I hope their car explodes with them in it.
|
If it's edible I'll toss it out the window for nature to use. I'll generally try and throw it into a bush so it isn't a blight to the community for the few days it survives.

I don't think I'd worry about hitting a chimp or gorilla as much as actually car sliding on the banana peel that you threw out and lose control spinning round and round and then into the other lane and and get smashed by an 18 wheeler then other cars smash into the wreck causing 20+ car pile up and carnage blood and guts and death spilled all over the highway and it will be all your fault. :harumph: Shame on you Rain Man :shake: |
No, of course not.
Apples contain carbon and as they break down more carbon. And carbon is bad. The UN says so... |
