Florida Planeteers....riding out the storm or evacuating?

It's my first weekend here in Florida and look what happens....Hurricane Matthew.

I lived in Columbia SC and they had the 1000 year flood there. Now they are experiencing one of the strongest hurricanes in several years.

Maybe I am the bad weather charm.

DaNewGuy 10-05-2016 11:03 AM

Riding it out

Simply Red 10-05-2016 11:06 AM

Best wishes guys. In my prayers.

Be safe....you will probably feel the brunt of the storm more than some of us.

Beef Supreme 10-05-2016 11:09 AM

I suggest hunkering down. Riding it out sounds like you are going surfing. Hunkering down sounds much more sensible.:D

FlaChief58 10-05-2016 02:32 PM

I'm on the West coast of Fl so we're not expecting much here. I do have my hurricane kit ready though

Mr. Flopnuts 10-05-2016 02:34 PM

Thoughts and prayers gang. If you don't flee, batten down the hatches.

Rain Man 10-05-2016 02:58 PM

I dunno. Seems like you might want to evacuate on this one.

You are going to have to elaborate. The ghetto in Jacksonville encompasses a large part of the city.

BigRedChief 10-05-2016 03:23 PM

On the opposite side of Florida. Not going to effect us. Our area has never took a direct hit from a hurricane.

Haha well I'm on Beachside in Daytona, the ghetto ones near me usually don't have a sign. Doors and windows have prison bars etc

That last storm that come through I had so many friends and family ask if we were okay. Worst was our pool filled up with rain water. Expect no different this time.

But, if I lived in Melbourne or Daytona Beach, I'd probably be clearing out.

Scooter LaCanforno 10-05-2016 05:16 PM

I'm expecting a direct hit. I will leave the island tomorrow. 100+MPH winds for a few hours. We'll see if I have a house left in a few days.

Dallas Chief 10-05-2016 05:19 PM

Storm shutters up and hunkered down. Live about 4 miles from the coastline here in far northern Palm Beach County. Picked up another gas canister today and ahandle of Tito's.

Will check in with you guys once it passes.

Rain Man 10-05-2016 05:22 PM

Good luck, Florida members. Remember to wear your lead shoes and take off any aerodynamic clothing.

Damn man, Jupiter is right in the path, stay safe.

Nothing more than a lot of hype. Just a little wind and rain. Tornados are a hundred times worse.

BigRedChief 10-05-2016 05:52 PM

Even you mid-westerners may be effected.

hey man the offer for shelter on this side of the state is good for you too.

I've heard the stories from the locals. Cat 3-4 hurricane, GTFO of the way.

Local weather guy says there has not been a cat 4 hurricane hit the central eastern coast of Florida since the mid 1800's.

I took down the stars and stripes and put up the Chiefs flag helps determine wind direction /strength and probably destroys the flag so it will save me a match.

Thanks for the PM, SR!

I'm smack dab in the danger zone, but at least I'm 20-25 miles inland and not right on the coast. So I'm not evacuating.

I'm probably going to regret not having a generator, though.

The offer for shelter on this side of the state goes for you too. For that matter anyone on here. You need to get the hell out of the way of the brunt of this Hurricane. We have plenty of couches and air beds besides the spare bedroom.

Buck 10-06-2016 08:45 AM

Looks like Florida is going to take the brunt of this.

At first we were projected to have a direct hit by a Cat 4, then 3, then 2, now 1. I'm not leaving.

Myrtle Beach area btw.

We are about 47 miles inland from the coast and are prepping for alot of rain and winds here....I would offer a room to people but we just moved in and the house is stacked with boxes.

They have been talking about the storm circling back and hitting south Florida a second time but being weaker on the second hit
