Fast Food and Restaurant advice

I shall be coming over to your glorious country in 4 weeks time (Florida). I see so many adverts watching Football of great looking Fast food and dine out places I don't know where to start.

For the record the following US Brands have found their way over to the UK and are established.

Burgers

Macdonalds
Burger King

Pizza

Dominoes
Papa Johns
Pizza Hut

Chicken

KFC

So I will avoid these places and be looking to new places to eat out can you give me any recommendations? Little Caesars and Sonic are on the list so far?

Thanks

Do not waste your time or money with Little Ceasers. Seriously.

BlackHelicopters 10-20-2016 06:06 AM

No fast food period. Fresh seafood.

WhawhaWhat 10-20-2016 06:14 AM

If you're going to be in Florida, then you probably have to go to Waffle House once.

Burgers: Red Robin

Chicken: Chik-Fil-A

Mexican: Chipotole

Breakfast: Cracker Barrell

For fish you DO NOT want to eat in any fast food restaurant. Fresh fish places all over. Use Yelp.

threebag 10-20-2016 06:51 AM

Florida. Try Checkers they have decent fries and i am not a fan of fries.

listopencil 10-20-2016 07:01 AM

Those places you listed are all horrible. If you must try name brand places go to a bar-and-grill type franchise instead. But you'll be better off going to local no name places that use local ingredients.

displacedinMN 10-20-2016 07:08 AM

Shake Shack-not fast food-but great

Spott 10-20-2016 07:12 AM

What part of Florida are you going to? All of those national chains listed are pretty terrible, except for maybe Sonic.

Whataburger is decent fast food if you're dead set on fast food.

Are you trying to get a sense of the fast food experience specifically?
Are you simply looking for reasonably priced chains that have awesome food?
Are you trying to get a handle on what America consumes in the most massive quantities?
What exactly are you looking to experience?

displacedinMN 10-20-2016 07:29 AM

Forgot to say I like the use of the word 'shall'
Sonic is good depending on the franchise.

Fire Me Boy! 10-20-2016 07:36 AM

Little Caesars is terribad.

Burgers: 5 Guys
Pizza: Mellow Mushroom?
Chicken: Popeyes

jspchief 10-20-2016 07:36 AM

Little Caesars is ****ing trash. Don't bother.

DanT 10-20-2016 07:45 AM

the Little Caesars in my town is OK, especially for cheap, fast pizza, but I have heard that the quality varies a lot at other locations...even when it's ok, though, it is not the kind of pizza Americans would want to show off to visitors

Hot Pockets are better than LC.

tx4chiefs 10-20-2016 07:50 AM

Whataburger if you can find one in the area.

Titty Meat 10-20-2016 07:57 AM

I can tell you some good strip clubs in Atlanta

Sorce 10-20-2016 07:59 AM

Google maps has a great feature for finding local favorites in an area. I have used this while traveling to new cities in the US and found some great local places that blow the fast food chains out of the water.

**** all the bullshit you and others have listed.

You should try out Five Guys if you like burgers and Tijuana Flats if you like Tex-Mex.

Install yelp for sure....yelp burger places or bar and grill...

Can't help you specifically with Florida but Carl's Jr. Or Hardee's or whatever they call it is pretty damn good for fast food.

If they have a Hooters you may wanna check it out for the wings and cold beer.....wink

Ming the Merciless 10-20-2016 08:14 AM

Yah 5 guys is great

We just got one here

Ah, great job. You are a foodie. I should have known you'd have suggested the best burger of all time.

Popeyes is also a good suggestion for chicken. Chic-Fil-A is great but the chicken and fries are bland if you don't use sauce. Popeyes is bursting with flavor.

dmahurin 10-20-2016 08:16 AM

if in Florida and you want pizza go with Hungry Howie's. the flavored crusts are awesome. for sandwiches go with firehouse subs. It was founded in Florida and is the best damn sandwich you can buy.

ThaVirus 10-20-2016 08:19 AM

Firehouse is good.

I also like Jersey Mike's. They've got this chipotle Philly cheesesteak that I'd kill for.

Just be sure to choose one of those two because Subway and Jimmy John's are ass. Complete garbo.

Hooters might be the most consistently horrible food of any national chain in existence.

Sub White Castle quality at TGI-Friday's prices.

I recommend the Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut and the #2 Combo from Wendy's and the Spicy Chicken Combo from Chic-Filet. Don't waste your time with Burger King or McDonalds.

So you know, unless they have something new, the LC deep dish is like a 4-inch thick pillow of bread with a slick of sauce and cheese swiped across the top.

Dominos has worked on their shit and it has improved.

Their basic medium regular pepperoni should be in the Smithsonian as the epitome of cheap quick OK pizza.

Their new crusts and particularly the new Italian sausage, is pretty decent for a chain.

There's still a good 1/2 dozen local pizzerias I'd go to almost always ahead of them, but in the budget chain arena they're pretty high ranking.

Simply Red 10-20-2016 10:05 AM

I can do KFC, Church's or Popeyes. They're all good IMO

Why would you fly over to the US and eat fast food? Hit up some local favorites, especially in Florida where you can get some really great fresh seafood.

You're letting those commercials have to much effect on you. No food in those commercials looks as good in real life.

DaneMcCloud 10-20-2016 11:49 AM

Good grief, avoid fast food as much as possible.

There's Mexican, Cuban, steakhouses and seafood restaurants all throughout southern Florida. Depending in which hotel chain you're staying, you'll probably find better and more affordable breakfast food at places like Waffle House or Denny's, as they're generally overpriced and eggs are just eggs.

And Chipotle is about as Mexican as I am, which is not at all. Blech.

ptlyon 10-20-2016 11:54 AM

Waffle House - Fried pork chops, eggs, hash browns smother and covered, with a waffle and a bowl of Burts chili. Breakfast of champions!

Staying in an Orlando Villa for 2 weeks

That's cool, I wasn't saying I would only eat fast food but will be having some. But will be going for more expansive evening meals. So Mexican, Cuban and Chinese,Seafood will all be on the menu.

My main point was there are lots of places like Sonic, Popeyes, DQ, LC not in UK so was just after any recommendations which some have supplied.

Pablo 10-20-2016 12:05 PM

Get a corndog from Sonic, take the stick out and stuff it into the middle of a Hardee's loaded omelette breakfast sandwich. Get an order of Chik Fil A nuggets. Stuff all of those inside of a Subway footlong tuna sandwich. Top with fresh out of the fryer McDonalds fries.

Enjoy the real American experience.

In order to make it Authentic American, I think you're supposed to dip that in a Frosty before taking a bite, or something like that.

You'll be in my neck of the woods then.

So, as I mentioned, you should definitely try Five Guys for burgers and fries, Tijuana Flats for "Mexican", and Popeyes for chicken.

Landry's and Joe's Crab Shack are good options for fresh seafood.

I think the problem is that the American fast food experience has been dramatically diminished over the last 25 years and many of us that frequent the board are old enough to know it. Literally every aspect of the experience has declined.

Mr. Flopnuts 10-20-2016 12:18 PM

Definitely hit a 5 guys for burgers, and a Chik Fil A for a chicken sandwich or two. I'll think of more but those two are at the top of my list for first timers. Popeyes chicken is good, if you've got a BoJangles give it a go as well and get you a sweet tea. I read your post in a British accent by the way. I may have to vocaroo it and post that shit.

QDoba might not be the most 'authentic' Mexican you'll ever come across, but their Steak Fajita Burrito with a double scoop of extra-hot salsa is one of the most addictive things I've run into in all of fast casual.

cilantro-lime rice
queso fresco
