The Oscars
We didn't have a thread on the Oscars, but did anyone just see that? Someone ****ed up, and they literally announced the WRONG MOVIE HAD WON BEST PICTURE. The Crew from La La Land gave their acceptance speech, then were informed that Moonlight had, in fact, won.
One of the most bizarre things I've ever seen live. |
That was insane.
|
Yep, that was hilarious.
|
|
Pretty crazy. Waiting for the inevitable moronic conspiracy theory.
|
Apparently, they sent out the same envelope from the previous award for best actress, Emma Stone, LaLa Land.
LMAO |
OMG that's insane. You seriously had ONE JOB.
|
That was some crazy shit. I just assumed Warren Beatty was drunk at first.
|
and they screwed up twice
DEADPOOL was this years best movie |

Bonnie & Clyde presented the Best Picture?

Arrival got ****ing robbed.
No sci-fi film has ever won Best Picture. There's definitely a bias in the Academy, and it has absolutely nothing to do with not having enough black people nominated for acting awards. |

I'm going with time travelers on this one. The Oscars love to go with what's "in vogue" over what stands the test of time (just look at some of their dismal oversights for best picture). Shoutout to the time travelers for preventing that here, this was a truly deserved win for Moonlight.

Note to Iranian director Asghar Farhadi:
If you boycott an event, as a move against President Trump's executive order barring US entry from seven majority Muslim countries, including Iran and send a surrogate on your behalf to read a statement, your boycott becomes as meaningless as your shallow statement. Does Farhadi or his surrogate, Anousheh Ansari, have the courage to speak out and criticize the Iranian government, while standing on Iranian soil? I do not think so. After the numerous slights against the President of the United States, opining on matters about which they know nothing, how fitting the dysfunctional bigots in Hollywood fell flat on its face when it came to announcing the most important Oscar of the night - Best Picture. How could they be so stupid not able to read cute cards, and most importantly for not knowing that a black movie had to win? Nice to see that they are all now part of the dustbin of Hollywood history. Bravo. Who won "Best Muslim?" Surely, Hollywood added that category. |
Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of Iran - Nothing in his statement about his country being the No. 1 state sponsor of terrorism:

Proud of cast & crew of "The Salesman" for Oscar & stance against #MuslimBan. Why anyone cares about or watches the Oscars is beyond me. Best Picture doesn't even mean anything anymore.
|
The biggest tragedy here is that people haven't learned how to embed tweets and just post links to Twitter.

Been trying to stay unspoiled until I have a chance to watch it, went along just assuming it was a decent enough flick. Then in the past couple weeks, the hagiography and the denunciation have both ratcheted up significantly. Don't give away crucial detail, but is this something beyond the normal hyperbolic praise followed by hyperbolic criticism backlash, or is there something specific about the film, it's execution, it's message, etc. that is spurring this? |

If you're looking for a ponderous twist on the "sci-fi" genre that spurs reflection on thoughts on issues such as "world peace" and "free will", Arrival may be for you. It was a bold twist on the traditional sci fi tropes that I felt mostly worked. I thought it was great, but I didn't leave feeling it was Oscar worthy. |

Arrival felt like a half baked rip off of Interstellar. Worth a watch tho
