Best meals under $10 tourney

If there's two things Americans love more than guns & shitty beer, it's definitely food and a good deal.

We like to go out to eat, and we like it cheap. So, let's find out what the best deals are for a meal under $10.

In this thread, please nominate meals you've purchased for less than $10 (before taxes) that really hit the spot.

Please list the meal name and the restaurant where you purchased the meal. If you would like to link it in order to help me out, that would be appreciated. If not, I can do it before starting the actual tourney. If I have issues finding the item online, I'll contact the nominating person via PM for assistance.

So, to recap: Delicious restaurant meals for less than $10. Name them!

I'll add it, FMB. Gotta be the coconut shrimp, though. Is that the coconut shrimp in the pic?

Yeah, saw that and edited. Sonofabitch.

Seriously, that shrimp was the best meal we've eaten across two visits and two weeks in Hawaii.

Jerm 05-01-2017 10:57 AM

Box Combo w/ extra toast instead of coleslaw at Raising Cane's...

Nothing fast food wise beats it for the price IMO....

Olive Garden unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks. $7.

I don't care what anyone says, their zoupa toscana and salads are legit.

Negative.

My favorite place (that's easier to get to than North Shore) was Nico's Pier 38.

Last time we were there, they were just getting ready to open their first 5 Guys. You couldn't talk to a local anywhere without them getting all excited about the 5 Guys.

TigeRRUppeRRcut 05-01-2017 11:04 AM

Caniac combo from Raising Canes.

If you hate your rectum and your spouse loves the smell of farm waste then I recommend the 10 piece nuggets, 2 cheeseburger combo deal w fries, and a Whopper to top it off from BK.

I'm fiesty about the non-GMO/Organic ****ing bullshit based on bad science. I know why they do it, because hippies will pay. So I'm doing what I can to not.

I don't eat there a lot, but I would every time I was at a place where there was one.

Costa Vida

Sweet pork enchiladas with roasted green chili sauce, refried beans and rice. $8.99

You would have to drink water to keep it under $10 but their water is actually really good for some reason.

Taco Tico #1 combo burrito, 2 tacos & green chile salsa $5.65

TimBone 05-01-2017 11:13 AM

My nomination is the Moons over my hammy with a side of hash browns from Denny's for $7.89.

I like the hash browns cooked a little extra, and then I smother 'em in some good hot sauce.

$1 tacos on Sundays at a place called Slow Ride in Lawrence that are the bomb; and served with sides of salsa you squeeze out of the bottle; the hot salsa is a money maker; you keep putting it on and keep ordering beer .

I actually think they might be $1.25 now, but still . you can load up for dirt cheap, and it's good food.

small dirt dive in Olathe called Cherro's Taco shop (I think); $1.49 tacos and the pork is amazing. good salsa bar thing. One of those places where the food is good, but you don't really want to see the back area lol. althouhg, they prepare it etc all out in the open.

Go Chicken Go - gizzards and livers and sauce FTW.

Rockstar Burgers across from Kemper; good selection of stuff. Do not buy beer there...it's reeruned priced. I think I got a budweiser bottle and it was like $5. Good diner type food, 24/7.

A Place I thought would be an awesome unique place / good food / relatively cheap was Grinders'. Nope. Tried it last night after driving by it for 2 years... big time meh. got two slices of 'pizza'......i get the New York thin thing, but these were literally about as thin as piece of paper; virtually zero sauce or cheese for $7. Imagine having a big saltine cracker triangle with crumbles of sausage on it.....that's what it tasted like. My buddy got a chicken tender basket , and it sucked. tots were good (lol), and wife said her philly cheese steak was good. We'll try it again, but I've avoided it because i heard they were really proud of their prices on food and beer. So, one more shot to stay on my list.

There is a combo with ten nuggets, two cheeseburgers, and fries? Jesus.

Don't get me wrong, I'd eat that much food, but just seems wrong to have all that in a combo. It's like fast food places aren't even attempting to hide the gluttony.

Dayze 05-01-2017 11:28 AM

look like it.

the beef mixture has something in it that's awesome. Little chunks of potato; or maybe chunks of the stuff that a tamale is made out of (whatever that's called).

it's a biker friendly place, so there's usually a ton of bikes there. But it's not a 'biker bar', in that it's not dangerous etc. Sunday Funday (as they used to call it) can get pretty busy in the summer since a lot of people out riding stop there on their way to/from their destinations for lunch; or they make a rid out to Lawrence just to get tacos. it's on the north side of river, just before 32 hwy. Not overly packed or anything, but it might take a few to get the tacos, but we usually just use that time to have a beer - they have pretty decent sized outdoor seating too, which is nice once the weather breaks. (keep in my mu description and experiences of this place is as a stop when we're out riding etc lol)

Is it required to come with a drink?

Dayze 05-01-2017 11:38 AM

small place called Papa Keno's in Old town OP.

I've only been there twice, but I was always pleased with the pizza; and the time I went I had a can of Hamm's for like $1.50 (just for nostalgia etc). big slices of pizza.

Pitt Gorilla 05-01-2017 11:43 AM

Culver's Snack Pack Meals are all <$5. I typically get the mushroom swiss burger, salad or green beans for a side, and a drink.

Used to get two Shakespeare's slices and an iced tea for $5 in Columbia, MO. Think the prices are a bit higher now, but still easily under $10. Could sub a side salad for a slice for the same price.

Nope. Any type of restaurant food item/combo/meal that you consume for under $10 is eligible.

Rain Man 05-01-2017 11:54 AM

Panda Express two-entree meal with orange chicken, Shanghai angus beef, vegetables, and a Dr. Pepper. Total price is $9 and change, and under 1,000 calories.

dtforever 05-01-2017 11:55 AM

Joe's Kansas City BBQ - Smokie Joe with Fries $9.34

I always leave satisfied after that meal.

Rain Man 05-01-2017 12:02 PM

I'll also propose the Wendy's Baconator combo for under $9 with unlimited Dr. Pepper refills. However, you're talking a ton of calories - probably over 1,500 even before refills. But it's darn good.

I actually prefer Pibb, but it's more exclusive. I'm not sure you can get Pibb in a sub-$10 meal.

But yeah, pretty much. The prune-based soft drink is integral to the $10 experience.

If you're looking for cheap and good, you can't go wrong with a hot dog combo and a slice of pizza from Costco. Unhealthy I know, but damn for $3.50 it should top any list imo.

You still would have $6.50 left. Can't beat that.

Wonder if in the romper room we should create Dr. Pepper vs. Mr. Pibb, coke vs. Pepsi, mountain dew vs. Mellow yellow poll threads. A root beer one with all of the different good ones out there would be a great discussion.

Hayes Hamburgers north of the river. a double is $2.90. I can get two doubles, fries, and a water for $7.40. They aren't the biggest burgers, so you could go two triples and fries and be at $9.60.

Or, a single is $1.50. I can do 4 of those, fries, and be under $8

Just try to give me the names of the local places and the specific food that you're nominating, and I can look for pics on Yelp. Local places are definitely allowed, but we want good pics, because folks are gonna likely be voting based on those if they haven't tried any of the entries in a heat.

Taco truck in LA. Got a burrito and 4 tacos for $9.50 and they were the best tacos and burrito that I had ever had. The burrito was comparable in size to a chipotle burrito but tasted far better. Cuts of meat was anything from your usual chicken, beef, etc to pork belly, organ meat (if that's your thing), etc. They also had grilled onions and pickled veggies on the side as well as freshly made extra salsa.

Easily the best meal under $10 that I have ever had. Explosion of flavor in every bite.

$7 and it's amazing. Toss in a home-made baklava for $1.00 and you're still just under.
