I don't wish injury on anyone, buuuuuuuuut the proof is out there.
|
Oh god. It's going to have a single player storyline where you are a washout that gets one last break. Then you fail. Then you go arena league for a season before joining the marines and becoming a bad ass infantryman. Then you are the star in the next battlefield.
Smooth, EA. |
Mahomes told me to buy a copy......so I shall.
|
|
I think it would be decent if they had a single player experience like the NBA game does. Make it so you're an UDFA and you have to make a roster and work your way up. The single player experience in Madden's past ****ing sucked.
|
I liked the single player aspect of NBA 2k series. though, I don't know anything about basketball, but I still played it. It was pretty fun.
I like the single player option ; I really like the franchise mode in '17, but the past few months I haven't had time to dedicate to running the franchise. Each time I sit down and start playing again, it has been so long since the last time I played I sort of don't know where I left off in terms of contracts, negotiations, who I liked that was being scouted. due to this lack of time, I either play just a single game, or as of about last week or so, I started a franchise as a QB and going from there. The single player would be a good option/alternative for me. so long as the gameplay in the single player experience is the same. that's one thing I didn't like about the NCAA football games single player. it 'felt' a little off/different from the regular game mode in terms of what you could do...like it was less smooth or something. is this the first year for the Frostbite engine? or is that already on '17....i have no idea. |
frostbite whats on fifa you could snap some shots of the contract years to see where you left off.
|
This is the first year for frostbite and Madden.
I wonder if we're going to get the 4k ps4 and Madden '18 at the same time... |
I'd like to see different intensity. Playoff should be different than reg. Divas. True home field advantage. Have two pairs of commentators would be a neat idea. Get broadcasting license from all networks. Have scout workout camps
|
Meh
Expected better looking visuals from Frostbite. |
Will you cut Reek again :)

Boner!
|
Hopefully they improved the single player aspects. I hate MUT and online play.
|
I'd like them make the draft harder. Like, incredibly hard.
Right now it's far too easy to draft studs. I can usually hit on at least 5 picks every year, and if I want a QB there's virtually no chance of picking a bust, unless you're a buffoon. |

Hmmm.
"Longshot" story mode. http://www.gameinformer.com/games/ma...-longshot.aspx <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cBZwjP6MpZo?ecver=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
You can't customize it? Way to **** that up EA.

Awful, terrible execution of what could have been a great idea. |
I'm not sure what to make of the Longshot mode...
I like the 'idea' of it, but....man, the more I read about it the more I'm reluctant to get excited about it. |
I can't state how much I hate the interface/menu...
|
I cant' determine if the Longshot mode is going to be like a 20 minute waste of time, where the times you actually play some football, it's already scripted as to what the out come will be regardless of performance etc. Or, if it will be an in-depth time consumer worthy of checking out.
I thought I read somewhere that the Longshot mode could be played while the game loads/installs....so I'm wondering if it's just going to be yet another hyped upgrade by EA only to be another failure. |
Why the **** wouldn't you not have a mode like Road to the Show? ****ing worthless ****s at EA.

I'm not even a huge baseball fan, but I bought one of the MLB RTTS games a year ago-ish and I loved the RTTS. Super fun. In fact...I'm sort of burned out on Madden 17...I should hop back into MLB for a bit. |

One thing I would like to see changed in '18 is getting XP for doing your job. I like to play as a LB alot of the time as a player/connected Franchise. But it's frustrating a alot of times because the goals each game that get you some XP each week, are almost exclusively tackle based. and if your offense is up by 17, the CPU offense is almost exclusively passing at that point so it's hard to get tackles.
Even if you're doing your job as a team defense in coverage and forcing a coverage sack or incompletion, or filling your assigned gap, or contain / forcing a cutback etc....you don't get rewarded - other than like 1 XP for simply playing the down itself. After playing probably 10 games as 'doing my job', I said **** it one game, and just roamed and freelanced. Sure enough, got more tackles and more XP, but it wasn't as fun and play calling was pretty much moot at that point. At that point it was like "yeah, whatever. call whatever play the coach suggests, then line up wherever and do what I want"....I got more XP, but c'mon. Also, if I sack a QB and force a fumble, the XP should be worth more than just a tackle. I foget the exact XP correlation but i remember thinking "man, I had a monster game. 3 TFL, 2 sacks and a FF" then I saw my XP payout and it totaled like 5 points (or something really low like that). I think i got more XP by simply playing X number of downs. wtf. If I recall (it's been a while), NBA 2k series would reward you for doing your job in some manner or form. I played a season as a CB in connected franchise and it was no fun. Even when i would shut down a player for nearly the entire game, I didn't get any XP love because I didn't get an INT and 5+ tackles etc. |
It's going to be a 50/50 purchase for me. I really want to play as the Chiefs with Mahomes....but EA ****ing sucks. I have a feeling that the game is going to look great.....and still play like shit.
|
I'm pretty fortunate, because my Mother-in-law gets me a $50 gift card to gamestop nearly every year for my birthday (started years ago when i was playing games all the time....I don't play nearly as much as I used to but I still get the GC).
last year was the first year in.....jesus....YEARS that I bought a new Madden. So I'll likely use the GC to buy it this year as well. I was pretty pleased with 17 after taking a multi-year hiatus from EA/Madden. Though, I don't play online; mostly just a connected Franchise as a HC/full control, and a connected franchise as a few different players at different positions. So, I have no idea how the online / playing against others aspect is. |

yep. I'm not even a huge baseball fan, but when I got my PS4 last year after the bike wreck, I needed a game or two to keep my occupied so I picked up MLB The Show. so much fun. and I don't even understand all the ins and outs of baseball (other than 6 outs and inning, 9 innings etc) from a strategy standpoint. Would love if Madden did something like that.
and honestly, I don't even play Madden Franchise mode (where you're the HC etc doing scouting, drafting, playing etc) all that often just due to lack of time. So i like to sit down and maybe play a game or two when I have time as a player; or just as a "Play now" type thing. A single player mode like RTTS etc would be great for a player like me. I'd be able to hop in and out of the game as my time allowed and still get a good experience. I liked NBA 2k career mode as well. But, like with Baseball, I don't know all that much about basektball so i was pretty terrible at it lol. Despite this, it was still super fun. Doe anyone know why EA doesn't do this? Serious question. Do they not GAF about it, or are they spending resources and effort to appease a certain type of gamer? |
Madden has always, and will always, care about the online player. It's been that way since online gaming became a thing.
|
Thanks. I figured it was something like that.
Bummer. |

After playing a season as a CB as a PR/KR a few thoughts.
to earn extra XP you have to achieve goals each week; which is almost solely predicated on making tackles. so to get that, you essentially have to let WRs catch the ball, then tackle them. like if you're in a flat zone and you see someone leaking out into the flat and pick him up....don't pick him up too well, or the QB won't throw it and you won't get jack shit for doing your job. you almost have to bait him into making the throw then make the tackle. This goes back to my desire to have some XP for doing your job correctly. and it's hard to get INT's when you cover your guy so well or play good zone / relationship with the other defenders when the QB won't throw to your side of the field at all. I had a game against the Jets where I returned 3 kicks/punts and had an INT. Monster game by my standards (don't think i've ever done that. 2 of them were me fighting through tackles, then getting free and having wide open field in front of me...so nothing magical about my return skills...more luck that anything). Know what I got XP-wise for those TDs? ...nada. I was so excited to see my post game XP earnings, figuring "Oh yeah...gonna get a ton of XP here....."....then I see the breakdown and was like WTF. So, again, that's pretty lame. Hope they fix some of that stuff in 18. I doubt it though lol. |
I put xp up like 200%

anyone heard or read anything interesting on this lately?
For some reason, I'm thinking in years past this was right around the time they started putting out actual game play trailers etc. just seems very quiet out there these days. I would've thought with all the hype about this Longshot Mode, they would be pimping it endlessly by now. |
Rex Dickson said video should be released by the 20th. Probably be a couple more days.
|
We should do a money tourney for CP Madden
Why not? |
hey look it's new footage presented in spastic ADD style so I can't actually tell what's going on

I hate when 90% of these previews don't actually show the gameplay itself.
I wonder how many people buy it, thinking that it's actually going to look like the shit they saw on the preview. not sure what to make of the target passing (or whatever it's called). They made it sound like you could lead a receiver, or actually control where it's placed. Looks to me like it's still just a button push to the WR anyway, except now there is a graphic showing where the ball will go? |
No you control where the graphic goes
|
ahh, ok. thanks.
yeah, hard to tell with that herky jerky video. |

I'm going trade away Alex Smith |

I plan on starting him from day one in my yearly online CFM. Hunt is alright but his speed is only an 87. He does have nice hands and isn't fumble prone. I'm very disappointed in how they rated Kpassagnon 69 OVR (79 SPD 82 STR) He does have good ACC but he will need a ton of development to make him a viable 3-4 DE. I was planning on starting him from early in the season but we'll see how fast I can get his strength and block shedding up. |
Quote:
No, it didn't even seem a big leap forward after over 5 years but I didn't feel cheated either. I really wish EA would move to a model where you could buy DLC you want without buying the game. Hell, I'd keep the same game for 2 or 3 years and be happy if I could pay $20 a year for updated rosters and FA's. |
I guess the scuttlebutt is that game play videos are supposed to be coming out this week / end of this week.
This is always the key for me. all the other hype videos are pointless each year because it's not footage from the actual game. I thought I read somewhere (maybe even in this thread, I can't recall) that running will feel more realistic this year based on your RB's attributes, height/weight etc. That'll be cool, instead of having virtually all the RBs run the same way in years past. Excited for the different modes. I'd be more of a sim player for sure. So hopefully a Jamaal Charles type RB doesn't get caught from behind by a DL fatty in the open / getting to the edge. I hope the sim mode truly takes into account the differences in attributes between players' positions on Offense and Defense, and doesn't just suction animation defenders into your ball carrier, despite having an angle/speed/agility over the CPU defender. Longshot mode sounds interesting...but I'm not sure how much I'll explore it. I played the NBA2k spike lee bullshit (maybe NBA 2k16?), and it was meh. but, at least you got to play some NBA games. (the best part about that was I was a white guy character who's voice didn't match my face lol). Is Longshot mode just going to be like watching a story, with a few occasional button pushes/making decisions? I mean, surely EA wouldn't spend 3 god damn years making something like that....would they?........ |

yeah, that's what I've been reading more and more of on forums etc.
They know there aren't any significant changes to the gameplay itself, so they're hyping different modes, Longshot, etc. we shall see. I hope it's improved. I'm buying it day one because i've been sitting on a gift card for $50 since xmas. LMAO. |

watched the video, just randomly fast forwarding to spots and watching a bit here and there.
.. ...that, uh......looks, basically the same as '17. I hope the feel/gameplay is different once I'm actually playing. Post game menu, play selection menu, etc...look identical. ...and, non-game play related but, .....they really need to work on the intros for the GD Super Bowl. That was lame as F. At 22:54....what the **** is that? Brady sits back there for 6-7 seconds and then gets sacked? Yep....that's totally realistic. And it looks like the same garbage to me. I don't see a lot that's changed. Same boring entrances. |

seems like the delay in releasing gameplay vids is because it basically looks like the exact same game.
Seems like the same random wandering of players after they're tackled. They get tackled, get up, and sort of just wander if some random direction instead of back to their own huddle. random question...is there a way to listen to your own music, or customize the music that's played in the game? I absolutely can't ****ing stand the shit in Madden 17. so far as I mute the TV while I'm navigating menus, or training etc. |
Quote:

Here's what I noticed:
1. The lighting is incredible. 2. Uh...fumble slider needs tweaked. Consecutive fumbles for TDs on a punt/kickoff. 3. There's still way too much pass rush pressure, too quickly, on play action passes. 4. The OL run blocking looks really good. Double team blocks. 5. Dion Lewis breaking three tackles at the goal line was stupid at 10:29 6. The tipped pass at 19:10 going for a pick was pretty awesome. 7. QB AI at 23:10 is horrible. Brady would never just sit there and take a sack. 8. At 23:50 the scramble/pass rush/fumble interaction is actually really awesome. That looks new to me, and quite realistic. I'm not nearly as excited as I'd like to be, though. It does seem like Madden 17 with a slight graphical upgrade. |
