The Official Cancer diagnosis Thread
Don't get on much anymore but I would like to share my adventure.
What started with some back pain led to a myelogram (can't have MRI because of pacemaker after heart valve replacement). Myelogram revealed 2 nodules on my thyroid. The left side was virtually gone and the right had a smaller nodule on it. They biopsied the left and found it to be benign but did not biopsy the right. They were going to remove the left side and I told them to take the whole thing because I didn't want annual biopsies on the right and was already hypothyroid. During thyroidectomy had to remove some lymph nodes during the surgery. Specimens were sent to the lab and yesterday, at my one week follow up, was given the news that I have lymphoma. Wednesday I have a PET scan to determine the severity and Thursday I have a minor surgery to install a port to begin chemo asap. At this point haven't spoken with an oncologist and don't know anything but it appears that I am not going to need to spend extra money on shampoo or haircuts for a minute. anywho, if you are praying anyway, slip a little word in for me if you could. Thanks, Jeff EDIT: I started a blog about what's going on: https://jeffbeatscancer.com/ It will have the most current information. |
Prayers your way. WTF - you're too young to be dealing with this shit

Not a praying man, so kind thoughts your way.
Now go out and kick that mother****ers ass. Don't turn down any treatment, legal or illegal. Cancer does not have morals, neither should you in it's defeat. |
Prayers will be sent!
Cancer sucks (duh)! My sister had a mole removed from the back of her leg last week and they are now planning to take a lymph node to see how progressed things are from her. That should be happening today so we should know more soon. |

So sorry to hear, Jeff. Will keep you in our prayers.

Sorry to hear that and you'll be in my thoughts.
On a positive note, there have been a lot of developments over the last several years in treatments for HL, NHL ,and B-Cell lymphomas. Much more effective w/ fewer side effects than past generations of drugs. |
JFC! What the hell is going on around here? I wish you all the best and sending you prayers in your fight.
We need someone to kick cancer's ass after losing 3 guys in the last nine months; BigMeatball Dave, Saccapoo and LonewolfEd. No more! |

All in for your full recovery Mr. Diddy. |
You got it bud. Very sorry to hear this. Stay strong and attack
God Bless |
We will be thinking of you and praying. Lymphoma is very beatable these days. My brother was diagnosed with it Dec/15 and had it beat by May/16. He still has the port in his chest. Although now he just saw a doctor (in Japan) and his Thyroid is enlarged so he's going to get it checked. Picking him up at the airport today in fact.
He had all his done at the Cancer treatment center of America in Tulsa. You got this diddy! |
I would like to thank everyone for the support. That is mostly what I need right now. Still sort of speechless (if ever I could be). I feel confident that I will be able to whip this thing, still don't know exactly what I'm up against. Waiting to schedule appt w/ oncologist still. Days seem like months. I got the scan and port surgery coming this week but, dammit, I want to know the plan.
|
Sorry to hear it, and will pray for you and your family.

Soooo. A little update. Saw the oncologist today due to her having a cancellation. Pathology determined that the type of cancer is a double hit b cell lymphoma. This is a particularly aggressive type of cancer and treatment will be accordingly. They suggested that I get a second opinion and that institution may be the one who performs the tests to stage the cancer, etc. I requested KU as they did my heart surgery a few years back. Haven't heard back from them yet but will update when I can.

You got this diddy, good vibes sent your way

My heart goes out to J. You had a great inspiration in Lonewolf Ed and his attitude he took towards his whole ordeal and like someone said earlier Lymphoma is very beatable nowadays and I will pray that you will defeat it. :thumb:
|
This whole thing just sucks. First Dave, then Ed, and now you. I know you probably think I'm a jackass, but this really does grind my heart.
In any event, I and many others will be in your corner and praying for your recovery and success. |
So after doing some research turns out I'm going to go to MD Anderson in Houston, TX. They specialize in this type of cancer. I realize that the cost will be a little heftier due to flights etc. but I feel quality is the most important thing. Researching angel flights to assist with transportation and set up a gofundme to help with the costs as I go through treatment, but I feel freaking pumped up more and more by the day as the prospects of smacking this around like a little bitch seem to be within my dark little clutches.

Well some good news and not so good news: I will start with the good: We caught this bitch EARLY! In fact the doctor said that it was so early she almost did not know where to begin. The pet scan showed that it is mostly around the neck and has not spread. She put it at stage one. Apparently the surgeon who removed the thyroid saw some funky stuff and removed the lymph nodes where they were gaining speed. I leave for MD Anderson to consult with an expert on this on Wednesday for a 7 day workup. The not so good news: Pet scan also showed a 4.4 cm aortic aneurysm. Not quite big enough to open me up again right now but big enough to potentially cause some difficulties during chemo. The chemo will be different and more aggressive: 5 days inpatient 2 week rest because of the aggressive nature of this cancer. I wound up taking my leave earlier for work b/c my head wasn't there. All in all I stand a good chance of kicking this thing. Thanks for the well wishes and prayers! |
Thank you for sharing. I'm glad you were able to get some positive news regarding your treatment.
|
Good luck, Sir! That sounds like some pretty great news overall.

Great news, J!!! Continued best to you in your fight. Pat |
Will pray for you, J Diddy. Good luck and may God bless you, sir.
