Sly James sent KC BBQ to Nashville after losing a bet

And he chose...Jack Stack

http://www.kansascity.com/news/local...193913359.html

Quote:

Mayor Sly James pledged to send some Kansas City barbecue to Nashville Mayor Megan Barry’s office if the Tennessee Titans beat the Chiefs in last weekend’s playoff game.

They should be getting it by the end of the week.

James’ office was diplomatically silent on specifics when the the friendly wager was made. But now a choice could not be avoided. What should we send to represent Kansas City’s barbecue excellence to another barbecue power city? Joe’s Kansas City? Gates? Arthur Bryant’s?

The chosen venue was Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue.

The order will consist of pork spare ribs, pork burnt ends, BBQ sausage, hickory pit beans, cheesy corn bake and an assortment of Jack Stack sauces.

Sassy Squatch 01-10-2018 08:44 PM

At least it wasn't ****ing Zarda.

threebag 01-10-2018 08:56 PM

Or Gates

Pasta Little Brioni 01-10-2018 08:59 PM

That was his way to"Clay welch" a bet. Found a loophole by sending substandard Q.

KC_Lee 01-10-2018 09:20 PM

Given the lack of decent BBQ here in Nashville, our dim witted mayor won't know the difference.

CaliforniaChief 01-10-2018 09:23 PM

Kansas City: Where "Burnt Ends" means more than just meat.

"Nashville Hot Chicken" is a lie, isn't it? I have never heard of this until a few years ago and now it's supposed to be some traditional thing.

Charade you are, Nashville hot chicken.

jimidollar 01-10-2018 09:28 PM

What a dumbass. Who bets the Chiefs to win?

TribalElder 01-10-2018 09:31 PM

Jack stack has been shipping for a while

Sly paid up, can’t hate for keeping his word

Jacks pit beans are the best in the city by quite a bit

The meat can be a bit bland

Rain Man 01-10-2018 09:36 PM

If Nashville had any ethics at all, they'd forward it directly to Triplette. He's the one who earned it.

Titty Meat 01-10-2018 09:38 PM

He's a fat piece of shit and a terrible mayor

In58men 01-10-2018 09:46 PM

Luckily Sly James didn’t send him Cali BBQ.

Famous Dave’s or Dickey’s lol

ROFLROFLROFL Even if it was Jack Stack, it's better than anything they have in Nashville.

cooper barrett 01-11-2018 05:28 AM

Why are you down talking Jacks Stack? They sell more Q than anyone else in KC,,,,

I think it is pretty good, at least it wasn't Rosedales.

smithandrew051 01-11-2018 06:23 AM

I hope he sent them some of the carrot cake

BlackHelicopters 01-11-2018 07:04 AM

Go with Q39.

Not only is Nashville Hot Chicken real, it's spectacular. And if the story is to be believed, it's origin is one of the best.

Hattie B's husband pissed her off, then told her to fix dinner. Dinner that night was fried chicken. She figured she'd fix his wagon by dousing it in cayenne.

Turns out he loved it, and the neighbors loved it, and the city loved it.

I haven't had it in Nashville, but I've had Gus' here in St. Louis on Manchester [OK, better than most fried chicken] and Southern on Olive [a truly religious experience].

Nashville Hot Chicken is no lie, it is 100% legit. That KFC crap that they are peddling is to Nashville Hot Chicken as the McRib is to KC BBQ.

Bring cash, come to the 'hood and have some Prince's Hot Chicken and leave a changed man...in a good way.

Dayze 01-11-2018 08:15 AM

should've sent him some Zarda bbq.
just to be a dick.

Molitoth 01-11-2018 08:31 AM

Nothing wrong with Jacks at all.

There may have been some issues with Q39 or Joes fulfilling the order and getting it shipped... who knows what really went on behind the scenes.

Canofbier 01-11-2018 08:54 AM

I had some heath issues recently and a friend of mine sent me a care package including a few different varieties of burnt ends from Jack Stack (ham, pork, and beef). The ham ones were tasty, though not really "burnt ends", but the pork ones were quite good. Gonna eat the beef ones later this week!

EDIT: Not the greatest photo, but here were the pork "ends" shortly before being devoured:

Jack Stack is substandard Q? :shake:

So their burnt ends may not always be burnt ends, they are always very tasty. And their cheesy corn is the best side ever made to go with Q.

The Q landscape down here is barren. Its lathered with this sweet and I mean really sweet sauce. Thats what they like. :shake:

Zarda would be the best Q down here by far.

I recently got some Joes KC shipped down here. Burnt ends, Ribs and Brisket. It was a gastronomical orgasm. They have been able to develop a fantastic process to freeze and then serve some of the best Q in the USA, anywhere in the USA.

ptlyon 01-11-2018 09:40 AM

Hope it has the right mixture of AIDS in it.

And send it next week for comfort food after the crushing defeat we wisely avoided.

Nickel D 01-11-2018 10:20 AM

He should have sent Pyler "S***" Bway instead.

gblowfish 01-11-2018 10:28 AM

He should have just sent them a big box full of McRibs. They wouldn't know the difference.

HC_Chief 01-11-2018 10:45 AM

KC BBQ, bruh

Discuss Thrower 01-11-2018 11:34 AM

Isn't that something you arrange when both cities are in the final game or series?

Nashville hot chicken is one of the greatest things I've ever experienced.

We had thanksgiving at Monell's in Germantown a few years ago at a round communal table. Just the wife and I and a big black family. It was very funny for everyone involved.

They agreed Hattie B's is better, even if Prince's is the original.

I was there a week and ate Hattie B's three times. Maybe four.

They try to do it in LA, but it isn't the ****ing same. Not by a long shot.

ping2000 01-11-2018 11:55 AM

He should have made Bob deliver it and only given him a one way ticket.

cooper barrett 01-11-2018 12:38 PM

There's a Gus's next to KC Joes. never been there but I know someone who's opinion I trust that works nearby.

It's just Buffalo fried chicken isn't it?

We should send him a huge box filled with the excrement of the KC offensive line after eating the best BBQ in town...

I've heard that.

Don't remember it.

gblowfish 01-11-2018 02:49 PM

Zarda's ribs aren't that bad. Its not their best thing. Worst ribs (IMHO) from a KC BBQ joint is either Wyandotte or Earl Quicks. Don't care for Rosedale's ribs much either. I think Wyandotte is the worst of the bunch. Taste like overcooked pot roast.

George Liquor 01-11-2018 03:50 PM

Gmafb

Jack stack is pefectly fine.

I was warned of those places, had lunch (ribs) at Rosedale...Once

It was there or Dagwoods, ribs at Dagwood's would have been better.

Right? I've had some amazing food and experiences at the JackStack Freight house.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Q39 and Joe's... but many other BBQ gets unnecessarily shunned due to the reputation of those two places.

Smokehouse (Zona Rosa) still has the best BBQ Beans, and their "Super Crispy" chopped brisket sandwich is better than Jacks "Poor Russ".

I like the sauce at Zarda's and their beef brisket. I'm ok with the ribs there. I like ribs that you can sink your teeth into. I've never gotten into ribs that are so tender, when you pick them up they fall off the bone. If I wanted BBQ flavored mushy baby food, I would buy baby food and pour BBQ sauce into it.

I'm with you on that. When I'm back in KC, I will swing by there and get a quart of the pit beans to go, and then go someplace else for the rest of my BBQ.

I prefer Q39 myself, but if my girlfriend wanted to go to JackStack, Gates or Bryants i wouldn't say no.

Zarda is definitely worth a trip when their rib tips are on special, usually at night after the dinner rush. I think a pound cost about $1.50.

(This might have changed in the 10 years since I lived around the corner)
