Amazon Prime Video

Not sure this deserves it's own thread, but damn, there is a lot of outstanding content on Amazon. I've had it for years and never really gave it a shot. The HBO and Funny or Die catalogues alone make it worth the while. The originals are simply value added. I've been watching:

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Eastbound and Down
Zach Morris is Trash

Things in my queue:

Man in the High Castle
The Tick
Sneaky Pete
Jack Ryan

Would like to re-watch:

Sopranos
Between Two Ferns
Justified
Parks and Rec

Anything you'd recommend from Prime Video? I feel like a kid in a candy shop (without the requisite time to actually enjoy all the candy...)

stumppy 04-10-2018 03:30 PM

Sneaky Pete kicks ass. One of my favorites.

Buehler445 04-10-2018 03:58 PM

I really love Bosch.

banecat 04-10-2018 06:43 PM

It was what I used to watch the Wire on. I liked their service a lot. I cancelled it when I moved. I plan signing back up soon. Decent music selection as well on there

New World Order 04-10-2018 10:04 PM

Still nothing like some good ol' Unsolved Mysteries

keg in kc 04-10-2018 10:12 PM

All of Battlestar Galactica is on there.

The first two seasons of The Expanse are on there (season 3 starts on Syfy tomorrow - I think it's the best show on tv right now, including Legion).

It's the right time to start Bosch, there's a new season coming out Friday.

There's some good movies on there, too. I finally watched The Arrival today.

ThaVirus 04-10-2018 11:17 PM

They've got Batman: The Animated Series.

'Nuff said.

ThaVirus 04-10-2018 11:18 PM

They've also got some great classics. Bloodsport, Highlander, Total Recall, Kickboxer, Robocop, Running Man, Gremlins, all of the Indiana Jones movies, etc.

TimBone 04-11-2018 02:16 AM

Isn't Goliath an Amazon Prime original? My buddy says it's good.

Hog's Gone Fishin 04-11-2018 07:00 AM

Same thing here ,I've had Amazon Prime for a year and never payed any attention to the movies. then I got a notice from amazon that said "Hey you Butt ****ing moron. You're paying for prime. Watch the damn movies.

So the other day I watched "jungle". Very good.

I'm in.

I'm stoked you started this thread!

Otter 04-11-2018 09:13 AM

Been watching "The Tick" for some goofy, light hearted fun.

lcarus 04-11-2018 09:16 AM

They have Batman: The Animated Series and Unsolved Mysteries. And there's a show called I Shouldn't Be Alive that I've been watching.

kcxiv 04-11-2018 10:33 AM

Prime Video is really cool. I use it quite a bit. Right now i been watching Sporanos again, ALF (Yep, that ALF from the late 80's) and Entourage

Beef Supreme 04-11-2018 01:07 PM

It's basically free. I mean everyone already has Amazon Prime, right? Which is worth it for the free 2 day shipping on everything all by itself. I don't even go to the store anymore. I need toilet paper? Soap? An electric skillet? It's on my porch in two days.

Oh, you wanna give me a video streaming service too? I'm in. How about music streaming and downloads? Done.

Yeah, I use the crap out of it.

Buehler445 04-11-2018 01:13 PM

So can you watch HBOs stuff without an hbo subscription? I don’t think you can with starz content.

You can watch older HBO stuff, but not the newer shows. Honestly, I'm really good with that.

Haven't watched season two of Sneaky Pete yet, but enjoyed S1. I also enjoyed Patriot, and Bosch.

I like season 2 of sneaky pete even more than season 1.

I’m a prime member for the $100 a year postage. It’s really a threadbare service that most check out because it’s free with prime. Their originals are okay. I expect that to change now that they decided to spend $1 BILLION to bring LOTR to the small screen.

With the HBO catalogue alone, it's clearly not threadbare.

And anyway, it wouldn’t be their original content. Which my threadbare comment was referencing.

Goddamn do I love Bosch. I’ve posted it in another thread but I can’t think of a single Titus Welliver character other than Bosch that I’ve liked. I’m not all about police procedurals. It’s the only one I watch. So on paper I shouldn’t like this noise but I can’t get enough!

Yep. It got dropped by BBC, who'd shared production with Netflix, but Netflix is keeping it going at least one more season.

Just watched The Proposition. Really good (albeit dark) movie with a freaking excellent cast.

One of the few movies I can actually recommend. Basically, a dark, revenge western set in Australia.

Directed by John Hillcoat (The Road, Red Dead Redemption). John Hurt, Guy Pierce, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Emily Watson. I mean, that's one hell of an ensemble.

Man in the High Castle was canceled last week. Meaning it ends after the next season.

Not a huge surprise, given how many new genre projects they have in the pipeline. Plus I'm not sure how much longer they could keep it going in its current form anyway.

Amazon Prime is pretty damn good and is only gonna get better I think .

What I'm most looking forward to is Nicholas Winding Refn's Too Old to Die Young show. It will capture the criminal underworld of Los Angeles and I saw some brief clips of it and it looks interesting for sure.

For those that do not know who Refn is , he directed Drive, Bronson and a bunch of other weird /entertaining films

Apparently Amazon let Refn go wild on this one. The episodes will be roughly an hour to an hour & a half . Pretty risky imo as Refs is not everyone's cup of tea. We shall see

DaFace 02-28-2019 10:48 PM

Anyone a fan of the Wheel of Time books? Apparently Amazon has ordered a series of it. I'm...nervous. It doesn't seem to me that it will translate well to screen, but I guess people probably said that about Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones at one point too.

It won a couple of awards at Cannes and it's very spooky-ass.

Finally got around to watching Goliath. Damn good show. Season 3 is coming sometime soon.

Looks like Jack Ryan and Bosch both got renewed for two seasons, so they'll both be around at least through 2020.

Sneaky Pete has a 3rd season sometime this year.

Man in the High Castle ends after its next season.

A new series called Hanna starts tomorrow, evidently a bit different than the movie of the same name. Reviews don't look good but I'm gonna check it out anyway.

The speculation is that they will focus on the 2nd Age and that each season might focus on a different time frame within that Age. This could work because principle characters such as Sauron, Galadriel, and Elrond are basically ageless and can provide continuity while keeping the seasons fresh with new characters.

Second Age Highlights:

Rise and Fall of Sauron
Rise and Fall of Numenor
Rise and Fall of Moria
The Forging of the Rings of Power
War of Elves and Sauron
Creation of the Ringwraiths
Founding of Gondor and Arnor
The Last Alliance of Elves and Men

It all depends on what you like. If you like their originals or certain shows, it’s great. For occasional movie viewing it mostly sucks. Most movies anymore cost extra even if you’re a Prime member. HD movies can be 7 or 8 bucks.
