What if I told you Mark Mangino was the greatest football coach in Kansas history?
https://hawkjock.com/what-if-i-told-...ansas-history/
Just found this article while looking around and reading up on KU's new AD, Jeff Long. Hopefully, Long can find someone like a Mangino. Reading the comments on this makes me believe that Lew Perkins really helped to derail Mangino's final season and push him out. :cuss: |

this is like me being mad that gary stills is cut from the team a year ago... and finding that he's out of the league. he coulda been a contendah, but he's a never-was.
|
I mean, as a mizzou fan, something-something-didn't-play-texas-or-ou-and-coasted-til-we-raped-you-in-his-only-great-year... :)
|
I'd say "yeah, not surprising." Kansas has always sucked at football.

kansas is a worse program than they were in 2001, or at any other time in their history.

I doubt he's working; hire him.

Welp - when you fire a coach who got the school an orange bowl victory (and relevance) because some kids didnt like doing bear crawls and getting cussed at.....
Well, you just flushed your program down the toilet. |

I do think the man will end up in hell because of how he treats people but the AD should have just had a sit down with him and said "treat people right or your gone" and gave him a chance to keep them on the map. He coached for snyder and we all know he wouldn't put up with that kind of mistreatment of players. Like him him or not he is true class. In the end I think the stress of trying to build a perennial contender got to mangino and finished him. |

I'd agree with you, but that's a bit like being the world's tallest midget.

but seriously, how is this not you guys pining after how well ken harvey is doing with the t-bones? I mean, the guy isn't even freaking coaching anywhere and how many openings are there yearly for qualified to good football coaches?!? you can't tell me the guy wouldn't be coaching if anyone thought he'd bring their program to the (heh) heights of Ku football that one time?

It was not surprising to me. I predicted KU to go 11-1 the year they played in the Orange Bowl. Mangino Magic is real.
|
That's not saying much his record at KU was terrible

We won in much louder stadiums and tougher environments than Lawrence The only difference is that the stadium would have been dead silent when Reesing ate the turf. |

That Kansas team was a bit of a mirage, though. They managed to miss out on Texas and Oklahoma. Great win in the Orange Bowl, I was pulling for the Jayhawks.

Man, you know your program's down when Missouri fans think they can bag on you.

I recall myself thinking Bud Moore was our ticket .... well so much for being Bear Bryant's assistant!

Yes, it does matter. I think the new AD will find a good football coach. I can't wait until I can feel proud of KU football again.

He could have coached the Jets

Kansas needs the Big 12 to return to twelve teams so they don't have to play the Texas/Oklahoma teams every year.

What if I told you there was a chance you would get soaking wet if you jumped into the ocean while fully clothed?

I am pleasantly surprised Mangino is still alive. Often thought we might have the displeasure of seeing him croak live on the sidelines.

Usually talking about that fluke fruit bowl summons bambi |
