Former Steeler WR Eli Rogers trying out for Chiefs

Per Adam Schefter

He was a decent receiver who had a nice year as a backup when Bryant was suspended in 2016.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-21-2018 08:55 AM

Moar receivers

Why Not? 07-21-2018 09:00 AM

Sure. Why not? But better bring a lot of game if he wants to make this roster.

BlackHelicopters 07-21-2018 09:00 AM

Who?

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-21-2018 09:04 AM

Better than Chesson ??

chiefzilla1501 07-21-2018 09:13 AM

Hell yeah! A reliable slot receiver would be un-****ing-real in this offense. Watkins, Kelce, and Tyreek will stretch the field and we'll have a shitload of stuff underneath.

I don't know how ready he'll be with his leg injury. But who cares if he starts a little late?

He was really good when he got minutes in Pittsburgh. Can't blame a guy for not finding enough minutes at receiver with that roster.

pugsnotdrugs19 07-21-2018 09:23 AM

True slot WR, but coming off of a torn ACL

pugsnotdrugs19 07-21-2018 09:24 AM

I say do it. Depth is so important in the league today.

RealSNR 07-21-2018 09:39 AM

Good training camp competition, but I don't even know if he'd make the final roster.

He's got a shot, though.

wazu 07-21-2018 09:45 AM

I remember he was fantasy football relevant. Didn’t remember the suspension.

RunKC 07-21-2018 10:04 AM

Man we are going to see empty sets with 5 receivers so much this year. There’s so much talent that you can’t double them all.

Andy will literally just tell Pat to look at who the teams 3rd, 4th and 5th DB’s are pre-snap and destroy them

smithandrew051 07-21-2018 10:18 AM

The Chiefs decided to bring him in for a look before we told them to bring him in for a look.

Sure-Oz 07-21-2018 10:19 AM

If he's healthy give him a chance.

If he's healthy, he's much better than Conley and DAT. I think Conley is serviceable, but Rogers to me is a big upgrade.

Titty Meat 07-21-2018 10:38 AM

Hes better than Chesson

Hoover 07-21-2018 10:41 AM

With Mahomes we will actually use every WR on the active roster. Best 5 or 6 will make it and actually be used. I think he would be a sneaky good signing.

sedated 07-21-2018 11:06 AM

Can he play special teams? That's what the #5 and #6 WRs on a roster have to do, and Im sure Toub has more influence than most when it comes to those types of roster spots.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-21-2018 11:13 AM

So, why is he available other than injury. there's 31 other teams out there.

The Franchise 07-21-2018 11:16 AM

As long as we cut DAT.

Deberg_1990 07-21-2018 11:18 AM

Sure,

we need some bodies to play in games 3-4 of preseason.

4.4 guy that's not too shabby. Appears to have good hands.

Injury. He just tore his ACL in January. That is a quick recovery. If the knee is good, he'll get offers from multiple teams to compete for a spot.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-21-2018 11:31 AM

So he's had a broken foot and a blown ACL ???

Simply Red 07-21-2018 11:35 AM

He'll go to NE.

Foot was in college no? I looked up his injury history and it looks like he missed a couple games due to turf toe in 2016 and then last season had the ACL.

Chiefpanther 07-21-2018 11:50 AM

I’m all for bring in a reliable slot WR. Any word on the Marty Carter workout?

T-post Tom 07-21-2018 12:08 PM

Why not 14 WRs? It's July. It's like the Republican primaries.

Is he much better than Conley?

What did he do with the Steelers besides make the team as an undrafted free agent? Put up one or two decent games when there were some injuries in 2016. In 2017 all he did was get buried behind Heyward-Bey, Bryant, and Smith-Schuster. You can argue that those guys are a murderer's row of great WRs for what Eli Rogers actually is, but if we're blaming high competition, does that mean Rogers is ACTUALLY that much better than Conley? Hell, is he even better than Demarcus Robinson? Where do you see in his production with the Steelers that he's a "big upgrade" over what we currently have competing for WR3 and WR4?

Don't get me wrong. Bring him aboard if he's healthy. Let's find out. Maybe he IS that really good slot receiver people think he is.

However, thus far, I look at his stats, production, and where he came from, and all I see is an Albert Wilson clone.

We have zero evidence that he's a big upgrade.

Flying High D 07-21-2018 06:24 PM

Your going to hurt his feelings if he reads that.

Chesson is a beast on ST.

Sassy Squatch 07-21-2018 06:35 PM

Albert Wilson just got 8 million per for 3 years, so if he can give us numbers like that it's well worth it.

Shaggy Shane thoughts:

While I appreciate GM-Brett Veach doing his due diligence, this interest is a head scratcher. [emoji848]

WR-Eli Rogers is a restricted free-agent and is slated for a workout tomorrow with the KC Chiefs. Eli Rogers has already stated that he wants to return to Pittsburgh and loves being a Steeler. Eli Rogers is also coming off a serious injury that he suffered in the playoff loss to Jacksonville last January.

The Chiefs this off-season have already given serious $$$ to Sammy Watkins making him one of the highest paid WRs in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes has built a rapport with WR-DeMarcus Robinson from last season which is surely visible to the masses on social media on all the Mahomes “Hype Videos”created by many amateurs around the globe (But none better than the short film “The Rise Of Mahomes” by Red Tribe Cinema). And we can’t forget about the blazing speed of the biggest WR threat in the game, the man that we call the Cheetah-Tyreek Hill. The dynamic that Tyreek Hill brings to this offense along with the arm of Patrick Lavon Mahomes sends shivers down the back of opposing defensive coordinators around the league.

Chris Conley is showing signs of being healthy and returning to form from his week five season ending injury last season and Jehu Chesson showed significant promise his rookie season.

Brett Veach has shown that he is not afraid to cram as many free-agent running backs into his stable this spring and summer, yet is it truly necessary to do the same at the WR position? And if the Chiefs sign Eli Rogers is this the end for Conley,Chesson or DeAnthony Thomas?

Stay tuned as we will follow this situation closely.

A (Shaggy) Shane Editorial.

Continued updates from Chiefs training camp next weekend in St. Joe from The Three Chiefs Amigos Clay Wendler, Lance Twidwell and myself Shaggy Shane Williams.

Mahomes developed repoire with Robinson because he is the best option he's had when he's entered games. That's different from what we need which is an underneath slot receiver. Rogers has really good hands where Robinson does not. Conley has good hands and is fast but he isn't great at getting open. I don't know if an injured Eli Rogers is better than that, but the Chiefs were hunting for slot receivers all offseason. Veach knows we can do much better.
