Earl Thomas a longshot to be a Chief

They just said on ESPN we were on the list of teams that he could be dealt to.

SAUTO 09-23-2018 08:30 AM

I'm in on that

Strongside 09-23-2018 08:33 AM

Now Mortensen saying we are a frontrunner.

KChiefs1 09-23-2018 08:33 AM

I don’t believe it.

MTG#10 09-23-2018 08:34 AM

While I'd love to see this happen, he's going to be a Cowboy

PHOG 09-23-2018 08:34 AM

BryanBusby 09-23-2018 08:36 AM

I would be ok with that

Seriously?!

Wow...

Rasputin 09-23-2018 08:37 AM

I liked when the media was all saying Andy Reid was going to Arizona Cardinals

but Andy didn't buy any ocean front property there.

Hog's Gone Fishin 09-23-2018 08:37 AM

I'd hate to spend that kinda money on him but we only have a 15 year window to win 10-12 Superbowls.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-23-2018 08:38 AM

Great.

No sense in wasting an elite offense. Let’s win it all.

rico 09-23-2018 08:38 AM

Holy shit, Twitter already buzzing pretty rapidly about this.

Hog's Gone Fishin 09-23-2018 08:40 AM

Would be so cool for him to start next week with Berry in Denver.

Hog's Gone Fishin 09-23-2018 08:40 AM

We'd have to give up a fairly high draft pick .

This... it’s crazy to think about ET at FS and EB at SS...just insane.

MTG#10 09-23-2018 08:42 AM

If this happened and its a longshot, I bet it would motivate Berry to get his ass on the field quicker.

I hope the interest isn't driven by concern over Berry's recovery.

rico 09-23-2018 08:45 AM

We would have the top two safeties selected in 2010... Berry at 5, Thomas at 14... pretty wild.

Maybe. Seems the Seahawks are getting tired of his shit and want to move him with stronger desire now.

Probably could get it done for a 3rd.

Sure-Oz 09-23-2018 08:48 AM

I read that Seattle already rejected a 2nd round pick from Dallas and may want more than a 3rd rounder they'd get if he just left

If a third is what it takes then you absolutely make that trade.

Between Earl Thomas and Eric Berry, since they were drafted in 2010, Eric Berry has had 5 pro bowl seasons, 3 first team all pro seasons and Thomas has had 6 pro bowl seasons, 3 first team all pro seasons.

That’s a combined 11 pro bowls and 6 first team all pro selections since 2010...

He has the credentials, but I just don't see many teams trading a first for a 29 year old safety. Maybe he deserves it?

And you can figure it'll be the 32nd pick in whatever round so a 3rd is almost a 4th.

TwistedChief 09-23-2018 08:52 AM

Trade Peters to the Rams for a second and then flip it to Seattle for Thomas. Peters for Thomas. I could live with that.

After this w/e when PM2 sets the all-time NFL record for most TD passes in a game ET might just give it a long 2nd look at coming to KC. You know Veach has to be playing that card very hard as well along with teaming up with Berry.:thumb:.

Yep! Was gonna mention that, but wasn’t sure of Thomas’s injury history.

CaliforniaChief 09-23-2018 08:56 AM

With Veach, I have absolutely no concern that he's willing to throw his chips down on the table. Especially with an extra one in hand.

Hog's Gone Fishin 09-23-2018 08:56 AM

And getting Sorenson back later would put us over the top

We also have 2 seconds this in 2019 draft

CaliforniaChief 09-23-2018 09:00 AM

If the compensation is similar, I would think Seattle would rather send Thomas to the AFC than to Dallas.

Chiefshrink 09-23-2018 09:00 AM

ET also might be a hint that Berry will miss more than half the season.

ChiliConCarnage 09-23-2018 09:01 AM

HARD PASS

if were talking a 2nd round pick. He's only under contract this year. He'll be 30 by the draft
if he's willing to sign a 2 yr guaranteed deal I'd be interested but I'm sure he's gonna want more

I'm sure they could work out a 4-5 year deal no sweat. Especially if this team goes deep in the playoffs

This sounds great, but I just don't see how we get him on a reasonable contract. If we extend him that is a lot of ****ing money tied up in two 30 year old safeties.

You can expect those two 2nd round picks will be the last two picks in the 2nd. Rams/Chiefs

CaliforniaChief 09-23-2018 09:05 AM

I'll take a remnant of the Legion of Boom to help our current Legion of Running Room any day of the week.

chiefscafan 09-23-2018 09:05 AM

Wow if this happens both berry and Thomas might make Orlando look ok good. I’ve always had faith in Veach he knows the problem areas of this D he’s working on it. Damn if he could pull this off watch out.

philfree 09-23-2018 09:06 AM

If they make this move it's to win it all this year.

Buckweath 09-23-2018 09:06 AM

Not a fan. Another guy who wants a huge contract. And then are you really going to be paying $30M a year for safety play when it is said to have become a devalued position?

If we didnt have Berry, maybe.

It just doesn't make sense to me to have the top two biggest safety contracts.

That's not happening anytime soon and Veach knows it and why the interest in ET. He knows it will be shoot-outs with any elite offense we face and Veach needs to get just enough stops so that we can win the shoot-outs.

You don't trade away future assets for a one year rental.

I’m guessing he would be extended...otherwise he will still be in butthurt mode like he has been with the Seahawks since they have failed to do so... just my guess, though.

Jury is still out on that but they just drafted a first round RB. You'd probably have to offer Hunt.

I'd pay a late 2nd rounder in the 2019 draft to have a legitimate chance to win the Super Bowl.

I'd try and make it a 3rd, but yes - agreed.

Earl Thomas for the rest of the season and possibility of a longer term deal is worth the price of missing out on Breeland Speaks II in next year's draft.

Trying to drive the price up. DAL will give up a 1st eventually lol

i didn't see the report... but this rundown says...

"However, Mortensen says that it is a “super long shot” that Thomas lands in Dallas, although he says the Chiefs have emerged as a potential landing spot."

Dallas is the longshot here.

https://www.profootballrumors.com/20...-earl-thomas-2

The Franchise 09-23-2018 09:15 AM

I think if you trade for him.....you’ll have to give him a new contract because that’s why he wants out of Seattle.

TLO 09-23-2018 09:16 AM

I know this doesn't really compare - but look at the Royals championship season.

Mortgaging future assets for a chance to win now.

As long as the price isn't too steep, pull the damn trigger.

I don't see a 4-5 year contract for a 29 year old safety. I agree with milkman, about the rental, too. With both Berry and Sorenson out for who knows how long, a 3 year deal with him might be worth it.

rico 09-23-2018 09:18 AM

Thomas’s main beef this offseason has been the Seahawks failing to extend him... so I am guessing any team showing interest probably has intentions of extending him, right? Otherwise you risk inheriting the same drama that Seattle has had with him... I dunno...

hawkchief 09-23-2018 09:18 AM

No way we should give up Hunt.
