Ben Niemann Ready to play
Looks like he was full practice last 3 days. This changes everything. 2 picks for him tonight.
|
We need linebackers who can cover. He might fit the bill.
|
Oh baby I hope he's a game changer!!;
|
Niemann's a nice surprise. Glad he's back.

Niemann and Hitchens out there together...go Hawks!
|
Add O'Daniel and we might have the speed to cover the middle of the field.

In his game yesterday, Trent Green chastised a team because they DIDN'T do it, the WR got behind the pressure defense and scored to ice the game (pretty sure it was Cincinatti). |
Dude ran a 4.6 40. We should call him Mike Fastlowski.
|
Swap Niemann in for Ragland, Watts in for Murray, and ODaniel in for Smith. Learn by fire while the offense is still rolling.

Big Dick Ben!

I think our defense will just get a little better every week
|
Hell yeah brother! Cheers from Iraq.
|
He needs to add bulk obviously, but he's shown more than Ragland IMO in the preseason.

Oh, hi Newman
|
If you zero-out the physical aspect of the game, defense is about preparation, instinct, and reaction speed.
I have no idea whether or not this guy is good or whatever. Preseason is a completely different game. I do think, however, he's an instinctive player. His past coaches have all said that, Wally has said that, and you can see it in his game. As a coach's son, he probably knows how to prepare, also. It will be interesting to see how (or if) he takes advantage of his opportunities. FAX |
I suspect he'll pick off Denver's QB around 7 or 8 times tonight.

It's hard to practice tackling when you have little to no contact at practices anymore... The tackling seems to get better in week 6 on... but you can't replicate full contact. |

he's not a superior freak athlete and he's not going to hit like a monster but he'll find the ball and put a hit on people.
HTisbbq is right that Josey Jewell is a good player and I hated that he went to Denver, but Niemann can play ball. He'll help the Chiefs. |
He's pretty small, but damn he does seem to have good instincts. I wanted the Chiefs to pick up Dylan Cole from MSU, local kid from here in Springfield. Dude was undersized but a freak athlete with good instincts.
Seems that's a much bigger deal at ILB than I thought. |

Theres value there. |
He's not small or undersized, dude - he's an inch shorter than Luke Kuechly and outweighs him by 1 lb. That's plenty of size to be effective at that position.
|
Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis were both 6' 1" and 240
Niemann is 6' 2" 236 Kuechly is 6' 3" 235 |
I admit he looks a lot smaller than those guys but I think it may just be an illusion. If that's his height and weight then good news he has room to build on that frame.

the team site has him as 6' 3" 233 - weird. I pulled my first# from NFL.com
|
Now that Eric Reid and Earl Thomas and Bashaud Breeland are no longer options the best we can hope for is one of those guys becomes something.

why the hell was this guy not drafted? I'm hoping he's a diamond. Because I like how Ragland hits but that guy can NOT cover. |
wow... from earl thomas to Ben Iowawhiteguy... we have a new savior.

Don't know much about the dude other than he has a knack for making the play.

I buy that way more than a skill position. 4.6 is 4.6 |

Lunch PALE guy? Lol |

Sure. But an UDFA isn’t saving our defense. |

I think Ben Niemann may wind up being the best LB to ever play football on planet Eart!

Right? right...? |
I bet they put Sanders outside a lot tonight and I bet Sutton throws Fuller out there w/ him.
|
I'd rather go this far....
Niemann will be an improvement to the ILB depth, will get some productive snaps and make more positive plays than not when he's in the game. If Ragland is nursing a knee or whatever his issue is that has resulted in his regression, Niemann can do an acceptable job in that spot if needed. His ceiling is taking the position as his own. I definitely think he's better than Smith or will be with some game reps. |
sorry a little off-topic

Not sure if this new development has anything to do with Peters, but interesting still. |

What's this 4.6 speed talk? He wasn't invited to the combine and his pro day 40 was 4.75? |
well, I mean, at this point barring a miracle trade, our only hope of the defense getting better is that the rookies start to see more snaps. At least we'll see what we need to draft NEXT YEAR.
Which looks at least like: CB, S, and OLB. AGAIN. Is it Sutton or the players? chicken or the egg? Does it matter? Not really. At least play the kids and see what we have. ****ing Eric Murray is terrible. Terrance Smith is terrible. Ragland can't cover anybody. Parker should be a 3rd safety. Whatever. We're actually praying for Sorensen to return, and he's lousy too. |
