A dead and decomposed Babe is still more reliable in relief than Ryan Buchter.

Of course I know Babe Ruth was a pitcher. Our stable genius president is the one who thinks people don't. That's why I was asking. I thought this was common knowledge.

Underrated post

Why Not? 11-17-2018 03:38 PM

I've never met anyone with even the slightest, most remote interest in baseball that didn't know this

Who wouldn't know that? It's America 101.

The ten basic facts of America 101.

1. We won World War II.

2. The Farrah Fawcett red swimsuit poster is the greatest art ever produced in America.

3. If you can't run the ball in on four straight downs from the 1, you don't deserve to win.

4. The pilgrims invented turkey.

5. Road trips are better when you stay off the interstate.

6. The greatest debate in American history is the debate about whether the greatest debate is Lincoln v. Douglas or Mary Ann v. Ginger.

7. Babe Ruth was a pitcher.

8. If you're not sure what to eat, eat barbecue. With tomato-based sauce.

9. The games at carnivals are always ripoffs. But they can be beaten if you've got what it takes.

10. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are the biggest bad****s in American history.

FlaChief58 11-17-2018 04:27 PM

As a fringe BB fan, even I know that.

Halfcan 11-17-2018 04:27 PM

I think it is a fair question. I would guess most of the younger generation won't know who Babe Ruth is or Ty Cobb, Joe Montana, Rocky Marciano either.

Big Stars like John Wayne, Jimmy Cagney, or Marilyn Monroe have mostly been forgotten.

This should be mandatory education taught to 7th or 8th graders.

Speaking of John Wayne, did you know he had a “Cotton Ranch in Arizona?”

First of all, this is a great list and just shows why America is the best country. Having said that, I think the great debate (#6) is Lincoln v Douglas because ... the other is no debate. Mary Ann all the way.

And along those lines, the Heather Thomas in a bikini Fall Guy poster could give Farah’s Poster a run for its money. I say that because those are two posters my mom wouldn’t let me put in my room when I was 13.

And #10 needs to add Chesty Puller. Those three are at the top of American bad asses.

On an unrelated noted, I’m surprised nobody at CP has made a joke that Babe was a pitcher because he sure as hell wasnt a catcher.

But I saw this and just thought: ‘Murica! Good job.

Imon Yourside 11-17-2018 06:11 PM

Did you lived near this pitcher?

I’ve never heard of the Lincoln vs Douglas debate. What tv show was that from?

Marcellus 11-17-2018 06:21 PM

Im sure most males over the age of 30 do. Outside of that its going to be few and far between.

Of course most people on a sports message board know this.

The palm of your hand actually makes the sound when you snap. I thought somehow your fingers rubbing together made the sound.

My personal guess based off my students is 95% would know who Ruth is, 50% Montana, and less than 25% for the rest. A lot of them still watch Sandlot which makes me have some hope for them.

I was just wondering that...

Watching The Sandlot needs to be a requirement in school... so the Babe is never forgotten!!!

Think about this... someday, kids won’t know who Michael Jordan is...and they may not know who Michael Jackson is either. Ugh.

You may be thinking of General Patton, who never stole home but did take Paris.

I was at an anniversary party and asked people about this during dinner. All had heard of the Babe- but none, including the men, knew about what a dominating pitcher he was.

Yeah he seemed pretty dedicated to doing that. His ghost will probably continue to molest little boys for at least a few centuries... and I doubt they forget it.

Would have made a great Catholic priest. Really missed his calling.
