Playoff scenarios

Slightly early to do this but....

If the season ended today we've got:

6. Baltimore @ 3. Houston
5. Chargers @ 4. Steelers

I'd take the Texans over the Ravens and the Steelers over the Chargers in that scenario meaning...yep....Steelers come to Arrowhead for the div.

Bring on the revenge tour.

CasselGotPeedOn 12-09-2018 07:03 PM

Eww. Avoid the Ravens at all costs.

displacedinMN 12-09-2018 07:06 PM

Feels like playoffs already

Ravens
Chargers
Seahawks

All playoff teams

Hoover 12-09-2018 07:08 PM

We just need to get healthy. A bye and home field would be really nice.

ROYC75 12-09-2018 07:08 PM

Just way too early to discuss!

George Liquor 12-09-2018 07:09 PM

Ya I'd rather not see Baltimore again

ptlyon 12-09-2018 07:09 PM

Texans ain't shit which was proved today

Reerun_KC 12-09-2018 07:10 PM

Way too early to talk about it.

We could drop the chargers and the Seahawks.

ChiefsCountry 12-09-2018 07:10 PM

Steelers beat Patriots next week. Get this even crazier.

Reerun_KC 12-09-2018 07:10 PM

Best to talk playoffs after the Seattle game.

New World Order 12-09-2018 07:10 PM

Please no Ravens

Hopefully Indy can win out and get the playoff spot.

Can’t believe people are scared of the Ravens

St. Patty's Fire 12-09-2018 07:11 PM

Steelers would be massacred at Arrowhead

Tomlin will play too much zone and that shit will get wrecked by Pat

Lulz. Bring them on

ChiefsCountry 12-09-2018 07:14 PM

Bunch of pussies around here. Same shit was going on during the Royals run in 2015.

OnTheWarpath15 12-09-2018 07:16 PM

We match up well against every team in the AFC except Baltimore. Took a few miracles to escape today.

Rain Man 12-09-2018 07:18 PM

The Steelers are imploding. I think they drop their first playoff game.

Bump 12-09-2018 07:19 PM

I wanna see something crazy happen in the AFC North

Steelers and Ravens lose out, Browns win out and win the division. 8-7-1 for the Browns, 7-8-1 for the Steelers, 7-9 for the Ravens.

It could happen!

Basileus777 12-09-2018 07:20 PM

Texans with the 3 seed kind of sucks for the #1 seed as they're a favorable opponent (worst AFC playoff team) that one should want to see in the 2nd round, but can't. They win and the Pats get an easy opponent while the Chiefs get Baltimore, Chargers, or Pittsburgh.

tmax63 12-09-2018 07:22 PM

NFL Network just said that the Chargers are still in the running for the #1 seed.....

Rain Man 12-09-2018 07:23 PM

If we hold on to the #1 seed, an interesting question arises. Do you want the weakest teams to sneak into the wild card spots, in the hope that they'll then score an upset against the odds, or do you want the strongest wild card teams to sneak in, who have a better chance of knocking off the #3 and #4 seeds?

They are the #1 seed if they win out and the Chiefs lose to Oakland or Seattle.

Pitt Gorilla 12-09-2018 07:26 PM

Could the chiefs and chargers take the top two spots or is that not allowed?

They are. They're our disaster scenario right now.

Here's how I think we shake out against the Chargers.

Scenario 1. If we beat the Chargers next week, they're out of the division race. Done Kaput.

Scenario 2. If the league interferes to award the Chargers the win over us, then we have to keep pace with them over the next two weeks to keep the division title, winning the same number of games that they do, UNLESS

Scenario 3. If the league gives the Chargers the win over us and we keep pace with them over the next two weeks EXCEPT we lose to the Raiders while they beat the Broncos, then they get awarded the division title.

The 3 and 4 seeds aren't very good though. We should want Houston to lose just so the #2 seed gets a tougher opponent. The Chargers are a better team than whoever wins the AFC North.

Only if they finish with a better record, AND only if we lose to BOTH them and Oakland (at Arrowhead) to close the season...and although Thur night might go either way, good luck beating BOTH Baltimore and Denver (@ Mile High) to finish the season.

I'd rather be us than them...

No, that can't happen since they are both in the same division. Best that can happen is one is #1 while other is #5. Top 4 seeds are division winners

Reerun_KC 12-09-2018 07:31 PM

So basically our HFA and season hangs on Thursday night?

That’s really stupid.

tmax63 12-09-2018 07:32 PM

It just annoys the ever-living shit out of me that instead of saying that the Chiefs control their own destiny and have a good shot at the #1 seed and HFA, they're pushing the Chargers storyline of Dumb and Dumber's "so you say I got a chance".

No. We just need to win 2/3 of the games remaining. Doesn't really matter which ones. At 13-3 we will own the tiebreaker over San Diego because they have a worse division record.

Reerun_KC 12-09-2018 07:33 PM

I would rather win Thursday, drop a meaningless game in Seattle and then house the Raiders at home to end the season.

they're going to win all 3

a game like today...they are going to be shot out of a cannon rest of the year

this team is unstoppable

I'm not sure how much our starters play against Oakland is we win the next two games.

CupidStunt 12-09-2018 07:45 PM

Ravens would absolutely slaughter the fraud Texans. But it's far too early to give a shit about this type of thing. Lock up the 1 and let's see who ends up in the 6 spot. Many of those teams would easily beat HOU, but some wouldn't and we could end up with a 3rd game vs LAC.

Yeah, been a stupid rule forever. They put too much emphasis on winning the divisions.

tk13 12-09-2018 07:50 PM

I think the biggest wild card in the whole thing is the Steelers. They have the Pats and Saints the next two weeks. I don't know what to expect at this point.

Chargers still have to play the Ravens as well. If you look at schedules the team who might have the most favorable schedule to try and sneak in might actually be the Titans. If they can win out they're probably in. They play the Colts the final week at home, but the Colts have generally played well lately. It the Steelers stumble these next two weeks there's a good shot one of that Colts/Dolphins/Titans group gets in.

No way. That's what makes it fun. It makes division rivalries HUGE... like this coming game on Thursday. It's the difference between getting a bye and homefield or ending up having to go on the road the whole playoffs. Makes the game way more important.

Don't worry. We just broke the ravens just like countless others this year.

mnchiefsguy 12-09-2018 08:18 PM

Steelers are only a half game up on Baltimore, and they have the Pats and New Orleans for two of their final three.

There is a pretty good chance they finish 8-7-1, and I don't think that wins the North. The only good team left for Baltimore is San Diego, so I could easily see them winning 2 of the next three.

Gonna be interesting. Just want to see the Chiefs take care of business and get HFA....let the chips fall where they may from there.

ROYC75 12-09-2018 08:18 PM

A rematch vs the Titans is intriguing BTA they can play some D and the way Henry is running might just be another bitch to sit through?

Best scenario is we win Thursday and Pitt beats NE
That end the 1 seed debate I think with two games to go.

I think you might be right there. That doesn't technically eliminate Houston but we have an NFC game left. If we lost out Houston still couldn't catch us in conference record. We're 9-1 and they're 7-3.

It's fine that the division winners automatically make the playoffs. Select the 6 teams as it is done now, but then seed by record would be the best option. It's ridiculous when an 8-8 division winner hosts an 11-5 wild card team.

Why Not? 12-09-2018 10:05 PM

There's a zero percent chance this team loses to Oakland week 17. Win Thursday and the AFC goes through KC

That does happens sometimes. But the real problem is not everyone plays the same schedule. In the same vein, it's really not fair to stick someone who won a brutal division at 10-6 behind a 11-5 "wild card" team that had a weak schedule. You might as well just eliminate divisions.

KChiefs1 12-22-2018 11:13 PM

The only game that matters now is Oakland. The Chiefs could beat Seattle and lose to Oakland and be the two seed if Houston wins out.

Is it because both teams play an NFC team in week 16?

Pretty much. It's all about conference tiebreaker, so the Seattle game is almost moot unless we lose the Raiders game. Then the Seattle game comes into play again.

New World Order 12-22-2018 11:20 PM

Texans are losing tomorrow

MAHOMO 4 LIFE! 12-22-2018 11:22 PM

If we clinch #1 seed tomorrow does Mahomes sit week 17?

kccrow 12-22-2018 11:27 PM

Lot's of games left to play. If the Steelers lose out things get really interesting for the 6 seed.

I don't care if KC loses the 1 seed to the Texans in all reality. I do care if they lose a first round bye. Take care of business in Seattle first and foremost. You could probably get away with beating the Raiders with backups at this point.
