Chiefs lock up Damien Williams

Without knowing what the money is, if it's on par with what we did with Ware and West a few years back, I like it. Doesn't remotely preclude us from drafting a RB to come in ahead of him.

Well that was fast. He's certainly shown explosive playmaking ability. That also probably doesn't stop us for drafting or signing another RB too.

****ing awesome. That’s a great deal IMO.
|
Great insurance to lock up a potential starter right now. Greatly mitigates the need at RB. With Damien and Darrell under contract, it’s not a position that we have to invest major assets into.
|
Awesome deal Veach!!
|
This is essentially double of what Ware/West got a couple years back....
Solid player that is an excellent complementary player, but can handle a starter’s load with decent results if called upon. |
I may catch some flack for this but he reminds me of dare I say it Jamaal Charles. He doesn’t have the top end speed but his elusiveness and ability to make plays when nothing is there
|
Was making 790k before this a year.

I hope the other D. Williams gets a strong look too. We could use a dependable one two punch like that
|
Is Ware second string now?
|
Good.
|
I guess it's OK. Kareem pretty much ****ed us. We just paid $4m for talent we could probably easily find with someone else's roster cuts or a late draft pick. Keeping hunt one more year for dirt cheap would have bought us time to do that. It's not a bad deal. But it's not a deal we'd have to make without the kareem incident.

Veech trying to save face

Cautiously optimistic. He's performed well here thus far. Problem is he's a career sub-4.0ypc back and that's the most concerning thing to me. I wanted the Chiefs to retain him but I'm hoping about half of that 8.1 is performance based.

Outstanding. He’s really been a nice player who is a very lethal receiver.
Draft another RB in the mid rounds this Spring and you’re set. |
CP agrees that this is a good deal. What a day!

Another Chiefs RB gets locked up. The cycle continues.
|
Well we didn’t have any other RB under contract for next year, did we? Not a bad guy to have in the mix. I like his burst in the open field. We need to draft someone to get the tough yards and keep drives going when the passing game isn’t working.
|
I would honestly not draft another rb. Draft Defense maybe a wide receiver to replace Conley

Where does this leave Charcandrick?

$8 million guaranteed in the NFL after such a quick audition? They must like what they see in practice, smart enough to pick up the playbook fast etc.

Maybe he will extend Hill and Jones here soon
|
Solid signing. I assume they'll use a 2nd or 3rd on a rb

Seems like a bad deal for Williams. Wonder why he didn't want to test free agency.
|
I hope the Jets Fire Bowles and he becomes the DC

Yes, the defense needs help in the worst way, but we cannot forget about the offense. We need to keep our weapons and line young and affordable. Mahomes is the franchise for the next 10+ years. We need to constantly build the depth around him. |

I think its a guarantee that Bowles is fired. He has history with Andy, I believe he replaced Castillo in Philly when Andy fired Castillo. We know Andy likes his guys. I think this has very good chance of coming together and I LIKE IT!! |

Sweet. I like the kid. Hope he goes for 120/2 TDs Sunday.

Damien Williams should be the starter because he can do pretty much everything. But Ware and Darrel can play valuable roles too.

Perfect for our offense. Great to have this done.
|
Ware is a great change of pace as a backup. I don't want him being the #1.
And I think Todd Bowels would be great. |
In for Williams Bros tandem. I wanna do Venus/Serena photoshops and troll gender sensitive twitter users.
|
wonder if this means Ware is for sure gone.
|
Love this extension. Great value.
|
Interesting note: extensions such as Damien’s and Reiter’s will have the signing bonus prorated over a three year span (18-20) as opposed to just ‘19 and ‘20, the actual base salary years.
So by doing this before the season ends, it makes the deal a little better for KC. |

Stealing this from twitter, but thought this was pretty impressive.
Williams ran 4.45 at 5’11” and 222 at the 2014 Combine. He’s one of just 9 RBs at the combine since 2000 to be 5’11” or shorter and 220+ pounds to run 4.45 or faster. |

To the extent that Veach can properly evaluate player talent versus Mahomes added value, will go along way to getting the cap back in order. |
**** all the Leveon Bell mocks in Draft Planet!
|
Seems like a pretty quick extension...he just had his 1st 100 game in his career last week.
West/Ware both got $9mil/3 yr deals but this was after nearly an entire season of production. I can see Veach's angle if KC goes deep in the post-season...and Williams getting some national facetime. I like Williams better than Ware (post injury)...just more versatile and faster. KC is as charmed at RB as GB is at QB...it's kind of uncanny. |
I like this deal and the idea of RB by committee is starting to go grow on me. I think you still have to have a main RB, but 25-30 touches a game wears them down pretty quickly.
|
With Mahomes our first cut line for any skill play should be "Can he catch the damn ball?" - if not, proceed no further. Williams passes this with flying colors. He's also quick as hell, but his instincts seem very raw. But he catches, even under pressure. Gotta hold on to that and hope he figures the rest out.
|
Woot, and I hope he's all the more motivated because he got this deal. I hope he shreds the Raiders this Sunday.
|
that's fine, just don't fumble anymore when the play is pretty much dead like last week.

The numbers he's put up since becoming the starter are impressive. Let's hope he can keep it up and stop with the fumbles. |
Good move. He's relatively cheap and he's fast as hell.
|
Awesome!
NOW HOLD ONTO THE ****ING BALL |
I think he's the ideal back for this offense personally.
|
Fumbling ****
I just hope that was a one off |
Good - from what I’ve seen apart the one crucial fumble, he is an upgrade over Ware.
