You're the DC...How Do You Stop The Bradys?
So what's your arm chair call on stopping the Pats offense?
I put Sorenson on White whenever he is in. Play 8-9 in the box Flood the 5-15 yard zones Make Brady have to throw deep In other words, I think you play Brady like you would Alex Smith.....ironic, I know |
It's not alchemy. If it was, someone would have figured it out by now. Mix coverages, don't be predictable, and hope your players execute well.
|
The Brady's what?

Hit him. A lot.
|
Stick everything within 10 yards of LOS. Make him dare to stand there against our rush and go down town.
Run blitz a lot. |
I would play man to man, double Edelman, if DOD is healthy put him on White, put Berry on Gronk. Blitz Brady and force him to beat us with his arm.
|
Stick with the wide receivers not five yards cushion. Shadow gronk or eidelmann and knock the **** out of brady.

Don't you already know? Pressure, pressure, pressure and if they can, hit him as many times as you can because he is at the age where he would rather not have that happen and in that weather, it's painful.
|
The first thing you should do is jam his receivers. Alot of teams don't and I will never, ever understand that.
If you can drop 7 and bring pressure with just 4 that is a pretty darn good formula. Bringing pressure by blitzing is not likely to work out well. You need to account for the RBs leaking into the flat somehow. Every rusher should absolutely divert their rush to pound the crap out of a RB if they have the chance. After those key items, I think it's just executing good fundamental defense. Man typically works better than zone against the Pats, IF YOU CAN COVER with man and IF YOU CAN STOP THE RUN without necessarily needing alot of DB help. And let's face it -- if this shit were easy, the Brady and the Patriots wouldn't have dominated the NFL for the last two freaking decades. You don't really need to STOP the Patriots though -- you just need to outscore them. The Chiefs offense WILL score points -- just make sure your defense keeps the Patriots from scoring more. |

This simplistic view doesn't actually mean a damn thing. "HIT THE QB" is not a strategy. It's the end result of a strategy and a plan. And Brady, Peyton and Marino were all cut from the same immobile cloth, and yet dominated defenses for years because it's nowhere near as easy as what you're saying. |
Bounties. Pull the fire alarm at 2 am.

Is petegz28 Bob Sutton?
If so this thread makes perfect sense. |
I mean, I think we should arrest him for having sex with his own kids. That would certainly stop him.
|
Force them to throw by stopping the run. If we can get then into 3rd & long, our pass rushers will do the rest.

I agree with the vast majority of what has already been said. Stopping the run and RBs in the passing game is priority 1. Press the WRs at or near the LOS. Make Brady beat you throwing the ball 15+ yards down the field.
I'd really love to see Speaks reconcile letting Brady go in Foxboro by burying him if the opportunity arises too... Ford, Houston and Jones likely take care of that if they put them in third and long. |

As a Patriots fan it is well known how to get to Brady, pressure up the middle without blitzing. If you can do that you will have a very good chance of beating the Patriots. None of they other stuff matters....the problem is the Pats do have as good of an O--line they've had in years. Ingram and Bosa never layed a finger on Brady last week. Clowney and Watt didn't do much earlier in the year, infact Watt had never sacked Brady until a half sack this year. Outside rushers aren't a big problem for him, it's up the middle, up the middle, up the middle......do Cheifs generally produce a lot of pressure from the middle or is it mostly from the outside?

Goad him into throwing deep on purpose - then snatch that flutter bug and take it to the house for a pick 6.
|
Agree w Pete. Take away the short shit. Pull Fuller aside and say “this is what we traded for you for. Go take Edelman away.” If Chris Hogan and whoever the **** Phillip Dorsett is beat you deep, tip of the cap. Pull Chris Jones aside and say “dude, want to be a legend in this town forever? Go destroy Brady up the middle”.
Profit. |
Pressure up the middle, take away the underneath passes to the RB’s and force Brady to beat them downfield.
|
5-2-4
Houston-Williams-Jones-Nnadi-Ford (williams/Nnadi are very good against the run while Houston/Jones/Ford are very good at rushing the passer. If we can knock Brady around without losing coverage we can win. We need Jones blocking passes and putting pressure on Brady right in his face up the middle. Dline has to get their hands up!) Hitchens - DoD(blow people up crossing the middle and catching in the flats) Nelson-Ward-Berry-Fuller (Berry on Growk most of the time, Fuller on Edelman) Our pressure comes from front 5, while the back 6 rough up Edelman,Hogan and Growk. Make sure we rotate coverages in the back, Zone,Man,Press etc. |

So...yes. Edit: Houston had 2 last week and Ford had 1 (with a strip). All against a supposed really good offensive line. For what it’s worth. |
Sorenson to Bradys knee. game over.
|
Bernard Pollard
|
Do what we did in 2017: take away the middle of the field.
Drop the OLB on Edelman’s side to take away the quick slant passes while having a safety over the top. Have whatever CB that’s on him jam the shit out of him at the LOS. Rush Houston and Jones in the middle A gaps, put Berry on Gronk and force Brady to go deep outside the numbers. |
I'm not sure you can with the way Gronk is blocking these days. Seems futile.
|
Pretty much what Amnorix said.
Big thing is, don't **** up. |
Like all great QB’s, pressure up the middle, get them out of the pocket, don’t let them get comfortable. Keep them off the field. Executing the plan, is the hard part.
|
You send Bernard Pollard on a Blitz...
heh heh... |
I think we can match up well with them in man coverage and let the dogs hunt and take over this game.
Fuller, Ward and Nelson match up well with Edelman, Hogan and Dorsett Berry matches well with Gronk Help over the top. I honestly think I’d go nearly full man coverage like that as much as I could and use the front 7 to pressure Brady and prevent him from dumping it off to the backs. |
Shit I didnt see this thread. As I said in the other:
Id have Fuller follow Edelman. Mix up Berry and Ward on Gronk. Mix up Sorenson/Houston in the flats. |
Jam receivers + as much pressure as possible. It all really starts up front. If we have to blitz, we are in trouble. What I like is that Ford, Houston, and Jones are all peaking right now.
|
I'd do whatever pete says. XOXO

Shake him up from the get go. Go after him, make him uncomfortable, get a couple sacks/hits early & the crowd will go nuts.
|
We need some Gaz
Bone crushing defense. Who's with me?? YEAH!!!!! |
Like everything - hit him in the mouth until he's stumbling around looking for his mouthpiece like Mike Tyson.
|
Crowd noise and the #1 pass rush in the NFL...get a lead and kill the short game. Make Brady hold the ball longer than he's comfortable with.
That noise is going to bother the offense...especially with Ford, Jones and Houston getting a split second jump. #1. Get out to a lead...put the pressure on them to keep up. |
We're going to be in the first row and I am bringing a CBS sign:
Chiefs Be Sackin' Hopefully I will get on tv A LOT |

If I'm the DC, I calling Bob Sutton and having him give me his game plan. A lot of 3 and 4-man rushes. Dropping OLB's into coverage. People hate it but it works. |

I think we have a good chance as long as we can score more points than they do. That's probably the best strategy to beat them.

Take away quick passes as best we can.
Pats are going to do their best to have a lot of quick passes since they are well aware of our pass rush and have learned from their past experiences against the NYG so pass rush is way too simple of an answer IMO. If our secondary can take away the quick passes it'll go a long way towards getting some sacks and making him uncomfortable w our pass rush |

Historically, Sutton has always had Brady's number. Pressure up the middle, get someone in Brady's face and up his ass, pressure will create turnovers. Then we outscore them. |
Quote:
Pressure up the middle. Man on outside (Brady's outside receivers suck), Berry on Gronk, then you have LBs in zone coverage and Sorensen or Lucas picking up the backs in coverage. Sutton knows how to **** with Brady's head. |
Sutton plays a lot of man with 1 high. This lets him use the extra man in the box or alley, as either a robber, blitz or spy. As long as KC DB's get physical on the jam, they will disrupt Brady's timing and should be able to get there with 4. Houston did not play in the first meeting this year, which will be a huge factor. They literally ran at Speaks all game.
|
Historically the Pats and BB are really a run oriented team in the post season. I know Brady gets all the accolades but people can't underestimate the value of the run to BB.
Former Jets DC older article but some good insight(stop the run, pressure from front 4 are key) https://www.si.com/2015/01/08/how-to...d-the-patriots Von Miller says hit him https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en...brady-patriots Demarcus Ware, hit him: Tom Brady Tom always knows where the blitz is coming from. You can’t trick him. We’d get to the line and I’d be coming on a blitz, and before the snap he’d yell, “Blue 32 … Blue 32 … Ware! Ware! Ware!” And he’d point right at me. I’d be like, How does he know I’m coming? The keys to Tom’s game are recognizing the blitz and getting the ball out of his hands quickly. You rarely see him hold onto the ball. The way to beat Tom Brady is to hit him. As many times as you can, hit him. And even then, it might not be enough. In the AFC Championship Game a couple of years ago, we sacked Tom four times and we hit him 20 times. Twenty times. The thing was, every time we hit him, he got back up. We hit Tom more times than any quarterback had been hit in any game that season, and he still had his team a two-point conversion away from tying the game late in the fourth quarter. The dude is relentless. Everybody knows what Tom Brady can do with the football. He has great arm strength. He’s accurate. He throws a great deep ball. But he can also take a hit. Like, 20 of them. |
Hope Sutton moves Houston around a bit on the line, but keeps him out of pass coverage. Would like to see a few corner and safety blitzes. If Berry looks slow, then he needs to be on a limited snap count. Keep Brady off balance. Jones will be balling and big-dicking the O line. Expect a few batted passes and at least 1 sack from him.

Actually, this is a big part of it also. The Patriots do the best job at consistently playing mistake free football. They have dominated the turnover battle for years, are consistently among the top teams in fewest penalties, and try hard to prevent big plays (Chiefs have been unusually successful at it against them). If you shoot yourself in the foot over and over again with turnovers and/or penalties, you will make a very difficult job nearly impossible. |

Brady's toughness is massively, MASSIVELY underrated. He has NEVER missed a game other than his ACL year. Think about that for a second. |

The difference is this year we can jam and bring pressure. It seems the NFL has laid off a bit on D holding the second half of the season. But you just never know. I think a lot of teams don't jam receivers because they're scared of getting flagged. I fear (or maybe hope) the refs will play a big role this sunday |

Never understood why we didn’t try and mess up the timing with the receivers. I really hope we don’t kick back and do the same thing again. |

I say we put all 11 guys on the weaker side of the line. We bunch them all together there, and everyone rushes the passer.
We'll call it the Brady Bunch. |
Let's gather all these ideas and write them into a list of things we are allowed to do to Brady. A Bill of Rights of sorts.
We'll call it the Brady Bill. |
I actually think it's simpler than it seems. Go Cover 0 like the Ravens. Put everyone up and stop the dinkage. The Ravens would have made it a 10-7 game.
|
We assign KC TE coach Tom Melvin to watch Brady on the sidelines and read his lips concerning the next offensive drive. Tom is always watch Tom.
We'll call it the Tom Tom Club. |
We turn up the Patriots sideline heater so high that it makes it 93 degrees on their bench. Tom starts to cramp up and can't run or throw.
We'll call it Tommy Bahama. Okay I'm done. |
Quote:
You have to mix man coverages and blitzes, cover 1 and cover 0, robber/spy, and sprinkle in a little zone/blitz or even fake the zone blitz. You have to vary your looks against Brady. You just have to, or he'll eat you alive. |

My hopes are tied to the idea that #95's Bat Down skills are peaking at the right time.
Interior pressure. Run blitz (don't wait - attack) from the LBs. Jam the receivers hard. If they get a catch, drill them and separate them from the ball. Etc. Etc. The key to this game is actually the same as it ever was this year; if the Chiefs can start fast and get a lead and if we avoid penalties and turnovers, we win. We should take heart in the fact that 99% of all football fans throughout the entire world will be pulling for the Chiefs. That's a lot of mojo. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we pick Tommy Two Yards twice in this game. FAX |

Gotta send some blitzes. Brady was pretty bad against the blitz this year. Get on the receivers at the line, and key the backs.
In their destruction of the Chargers, Brady may as well have been checkdown Alex. Very few throws actually went past 6 yards through the air. That bullshit soft zone aint gonna cut it this week. |
