Just getting here. We were completely surrounded an hour ago.

This winter is ridiculous. The second the snow finally melts from the previous snowfall it comes down again.

Nothing down here but a little freezing rain so far. Think the north side of town is getting sleet. Looking out, and traffic is still moving just fine.

What's funny is that Springfield Schools closed for today. They never would have done that 25-30 years ago (am I really old enough to say that....geez). If anything, they would have gone and let out early. So far, kids could have survived at least a half day.

It's like that here too. When I was a kid, we had maybe 2-3 snow days a year. Now they have 12-13, plus they have early dismissal once a week and teacher in service once a month. We used to start after Labor Day and get out in mid-to-late May. They now go from the middle of August until the middle of June.

Asking how the snow was is not gay sex? You farmers are an odd bunch.

They've lengthened the school year and made the vacations longer, there's more random days off and yes many more snow days.

Probably easing into year round school.

If its freezing rain I don't want my kids on a bus trying to get home because some idiot school administrator thought they could get a half day in.

This is another factor, parents today are much more apt to not send kids to school on a day like today where 30 years ago parents didn't care nearly as much in that regard.

Not capping on any parenting styles but 30 years ago parents in general were much less concerned in general.

Well, bus drivers aren't what they used to be for one (employees in general, actually). And the kids are on buses a lot longer too. Riding the bus isn't as safe as it used to be.

I'd rather err on the side of caution, especially when they are talking freezing rain.

I love the winter - at least compared to summer. But I don't like heavy snow that I have to scoop.

Lack of common sense always ceases to amaze me, however accidents actually don't seem to be much of an issue this year during bad weather. I guess people put their F-ing phones down, pay attention, and drive carefully.

I've seen a ton of vehicles in the ditch. Ironically, most of them are 4 wheel drive trucks or SUV's. People must think they're invincible.

We’ve worked four accidents today. Only two of them were weather related. Both on overpasses. You’d think people would learn that bridges ice over fairly quick.

Where the hell that woman thought she had to be in an ice storm with two toddlers I'd love to know. I'll spare you the details but it just isn't worth it.</br></br>Use a sick day and don't forget, it's not just you on the road in this shit, there's a whole lot of other people out there that are probably worse drivers sharing the road.

The full video of this very likely shows the person who died. There are two people in what's left of the blue car. Pretty sure this blue car is right in front of the white truck that keeps getting plowed into.

How'd you like to be in that green jeep seeing two trucks coming from behind like that who swerve at the last minute - almost certainly sparing your life? But what else can you do? Can't try to get out and run at that point. Of if anyone in the middle tried to get out of their car at the wrong time - dead. I think the best strategy is immediately run for the hills if you think you can make it. Otherwise stay buckled up and pray.

I had had a job delivering drugs to NE KS for Quick Delivery/McKesson. We had a day like this - near white-out. If you drive too slow someone will just run up the back of you. You just have to try to keep a visual with the tail lights in front of you and hope for the best.

They may not have started filming until after the initial wreck.

Damn that's awful. I barely made it out of downtown and avoided 35 in favor of 9 highway to get north of the river. Shit like this is why. Even though it was a parking lot you just never know when you're gonna run into some shit like this.

Yeah that's nuts even for the interstate in those conditions.

And the number of people I saw out in RWD vehicles with no chains or weight that couldn't get around was pretty silly.

You'd think if it's hard to see you're going too fast ...just sad someone lost their life in this.

I don't think it should be lawful for semi's to be able to drive during any snow precipitation. Too dangerous.

That's a pretty undulating stretch. Imagine drivers being oblivious until they reach the crest played into it.

Aren't truckers all listening on the same channel in situations like this? CBs are still a thing right? If they're all on different channels or don't have some emergency channel that breaks in somehow that seems dumb.
