Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson
I continue to see mocks with this guy either being our pick or getting very close. I thought he was for sure a top 15 pick. Did something happen that I missed? I’d be all over that.
|
from what I read he's not participating in any draft workouts which includes his pro day
|
I dont give a ****, this is the guy i want most in this draft. He and Adderly are on the same level in my mind

Yes please... |
I'm wanting guys who love football and love to compete. Unless there's an injury I haven't read up on it's a bit worrisome he's not wanting to compete to improve his draft stock heading into draft day.
|
no way in hell he'll be there at the Chiefs pick unless they trade up for him.

The Damien Wilson signing was pretty "meh" and I can't see him simply being handed the keys there. |

Yeah I think at this point he'd be the best case scenario for KC.
Prototype 4-3 DE. Leo athleticism with SDE size. Pretty stellar fit if attainable... |

For me that guy has been White to this point. But Ferrell is damn close in his own right. That said, I don't think I could justify it if he can't get another damn veteran CB in here. If he can get Darby signed, then I'm cool burning one of those 2s to move up and get Ferrell. You still have the other 2 to address another need but no longer have a truly pressing one. But man, if you can't get Darby in here and you're left with Ward/Fuller as your only 2 CB options, I feel like you need that extra bullet. |

Maybe Sweat drops?
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Mississippi State DE Montez Sweat’s Combine medical exams revealed a pre-existing heart condition, sources say. My story on one of the draft’s top prospects: <a href="https://t.co/bjI1eKVOSm">https://t.co/bjI1eKVOSm</a></p>— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1107366826273579009?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
I dunno, the only sources I've seen him out of the top 15 is the draft simulator sites. I haven't really kept tabs too tightly this year though. I'll say this, if he falls outside 15 I'd be on the phone to try to trade up for the kid.

17-22 seems to be the predicted range for right now. |
Sweats heart condition probably screwed us. When he inevitably slides, it'll just push Ferrell up.
I wasn't huge on sweat before the heart so this pretty much sucks. |

What about Anthony Nelson out of Iowa?
CBS Sports draft writer Chris Trapasso lists Iowa DE Anthony Nelson as a "Plan B" for teams that miss out on Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa. Bosa is likely going in the first five picks -- it'd be an upset if he falls out of the top three right now -- but Nelson (6'7/271) could be a nice fallback option, as Trapasso mentions. "[Nelson] has the most advanced repertoire of pass-rushing moves at the edge rusher spot in this class after Bosa and demonstrated high caliber athleticism at the combine with a three-cone drill time in the 92nd percentile at his position as well as a broad and vertical in the 82nd and 87th percentiles respectively," he writes. Right now, it looks like Nelson will be a Day 2 pick, and he could be a steal in that range. |

Usually "motor" is a code word for "not athletic". He's plenty athletic AND has a motor too. He's used to playing in a scheme that emphasizes getting pass rush out of the front 4. I honestly think he's a PERFECT fit for this defense and would love to see him as a Chief. |
And for the record, I'm not high on Montez Sweat at all.
The games I got to watch of him, he was the anti-Anthony Nelson. I only got to see some nationally-televised games of his and he all but disappeared in some of them. |
Nelson is the Dollar Tree Bosa.
|
i watched two games of his so its small sample size but im not seeing what you guys are seeing in him

after the first wave of free agency, I see the defensive team needs like this, in order of importance:
DE, LB, FS, C. Ferrell if you don't have to reach, Omenihu, maybe Zach Allen are all solid options. Porter Gustin is worth taking a chance in the mid rounds. He's an injury concern, but super productive when healthy and has perfect size and a high motor. I think the blue chip LB guys will be gone before we have a shot but there are a TON of decent possibilities day two and three, probable starters that could develop into studs. I think the safety class is DEEP, with guys that will go on day 3 that are relatively the same guys as players who will go in round 1. Corners look to dry up around the end of round 2 if projections are somewhat accurate but I like a lot of the "second round" corners like Ya-Sin, and Oruwariye. I think I'd do like...Omenihu, Ya-Sin, and Rapp and feel like I could draft BAA the rest of the way. Sign a LB in free agency and roll. |

Another new mock draft from Zierlein. This guy is at 24. He doesn’t look like a top 15 pick in mocks.
