76, that’s practically Methuselah for pro rasslers
I remember him from the old Wrestling at the Chase, back when you only had 3 channels that was great tv |
‘Handsome’ ? I thought he was ‘King’ Harley Race?
I met him at a Godfather’s pizza about 35+ years ago. He had maybe five empty pitchers of beer in front of him, and his hands were the size of bear paws. That’s all I can remember. |
1.) Hansom? LMAO
2.) He was one tough old SOB. My grandma used to love to go see him when they'd come through town. |
Over the years I've met 3 people that claimed that Harley Race assisted them in some way when they had car trouble on I70. Weird. Heck of a guy. RIP

Well, how else do you think he got the nickname Hansom (cab) Harley Race? |

Yeah I misspelled it but his nickname was Handsome so kill me. Former pro wrestlers, including "Handsome" Harley race, talk about their careers in wrestling documentary BY TODD FEEBACK | MONTY DAVIS AUGUST 01, 2019 02:34 PM Former wrestlers and their fans mingled and talked about old times prior to the showing of a documentary titled, "K.C. on the Mat: The History of Professional Wrestling in Kansas City" on April 24, 2009 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. |
Bulldog Bob Brown still alive?
|
Handsome. JFC.
|
Andre the Giant feared Harley Race.
Think about that. |
Dont know if you remember the Bully of Skidmore Mo they made a movie about him. Well Quitman is very near Skidmore and Harley knew and hated the guy. Most believe it was the the sheriff that killed him but rumor floated around that Harley got him. I suppose we will never know. One of my best buddies farms very near Quitman the rumors are there.

He's one of the first pro wrestlers I remember. I watched him when I was 6 or 7. I always thought it kind of odd that he had no persona, though. Other people were big farmers or flying playboys or exotic Japanese guys, but Harley Race just showed up in a pair of shorts and went by his name.

Man, one of the greats... lived a long live, not sure what the last 20 were like for him and whether he was in pain, but he was definitely a legend.

One of my favorites.
Also one of the true southpaws. Damn he was good too. RIP. |
I just caught the end of his career as he came into the WWE.
My first guys were Stan the Man Stasiak with his Heart Punch (my favorite), Chief Jay Strongbow and his Sleeper Hold, Ivan Putski and his Polish Hammer, Baron von Raschke and the Brain Claw and Bruno Sammartino. |

I got to meet him several times over the years after he retired. Very nice guy. I think he might have had some back trouble from his wrestling days, seemed he was pretty gimpy and slouched over the last time I talked to him. RIP

My Aunt Maxine was a huge fanatic. I dont think she ever missed a match at Memorial Hall in KCK. My Uncle Jack would even drive her up to St Joe often. She was part of the group of crazy ladies sitting near the Hite sisters bag ladies Mertie and Gertie.
She always brought my brother and I a copy Wrestling News I need to look around mom's attic they are probably stored there. https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net...ee&oe=5DD61436 https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net...0a&oe=5DA0C498 |
Cool find. Black Angus. Remember that also. St Joe auditorium.

I grew up near Truman Corners. Back in the 60's during the summer, they would have the pro wrestlers wrestling outside in the parking lot and my friends and I would ride our bikes down there to watch them. They would change clothes in the Worth's store (womens' clothing store) and my friends and I would wait outside after the match. One night, Harley Race came out and we said. "That's all fake! It's fake!" Harley went into an Incredible Hulk pose and yelled, "GRRRRRR!!" We screamed and rode off on our bikes. GREAT memories and Harley Race was a cool guy. RIP!
