-- Talk to me about some gas station food you like

I like Circle K's Krispy Krunchy chicken. I'll put up against any chain as far as quality + value.

What few food items do you like from gas stations and where?

Mike in SW-MO 09-05-2019 06:44 AM

Fried burritos. Almost anywhere.

Fried chicken gizzards. Ridgedale, Mo near Top of the Rock.

keg in kc 09-05-2019 06:45 AM

I can't remember the last time i ate anything from a gas station that wasn't candy or a bag of chips.

Simply Red 09-05-2019 06:49 AM

QT Egg Rolls?

Naptown Chief 09-05-2019 06:53 AM

There's a gas station kind of in the middle of nowhere, about 20ish miles south of me. I'm drawing a blank on their name, but they have a mom and pop deli attached to them... Their fried chicken, their hot wings in particular, their brats/Italian sausages, and even their pizza are all very good and come through in a pinch.

I do HVAC and, before my accident, I was heading this large project to install new furnaces in this fairly large mobile home park in Wayson's Corner, MD. Right at the entrance is this gas station/truck stop that I'd probably eaten at a handful of times that summer. Cheap and effective, and also a nice break from bringing my own lunch almost every day of the year..

KCUnited 09-05-2019 06:54 AM

They can be hit or miss, but the QT chicken biscuit will do in a pinch. They can dry out quick though, so I do a soft feel around the package to check for any hardened biscuit areas.

el borracho 09-05-2019 06:56 AM

Beer

Naptown Chief 09-05-2019 06:57 AM

Do you guys have Royal Farms out there? Their chicken, when fresh, is better than any of the chains..

threebag 09-05-2019 07:06 AM

Circle K had these greasy ass little tamales that were great with a beer or coke. 2 for $2
Sadly they have stopped distributing to my location.

About 30yrs ago the QT $1.59 BBQ Pork Rib was great, they have completely ****ed it up

It’s hard to pass a roller brat anywhere if they have them.

Sofa King 09-05-2019 07:08 AM

Casey’s pizza is tasty.

notorious 09-05-2019 07:09 AM

Casey’s breakfast pizza.

Their normal pizza is good, too.

(Sofa beat me by a **** hair)

Baby Lee 09-05-2019 07:18 AM

Can't vouch for it as fresh, organic, farm-raised, or healthy, but the Buffalo chicken roller at QT is quite useful as a snack.

Cheap, meaty, spicy [actually surprisingly so], not prone to drying out, not messy.

If you find yourself checking out and notice you need something to keep you from rage rage for a pending trip, there are worse ways to spend a buck.

Stryker 09-05-2019 07:21 AM

Here we have On the Run which is basically an Exxon station that has a Hunt's Brothers pizza inside. The loaded thin crust is incredible and a large is $10 and change.

BigBeauford 09-05-2019 07:22 AM

Casey's pizza is unbeatable, and I would put its pizza against any national pizza chain.

cron912 09-05-2019 07:27 AM

Agreed, Casey's pizza.

QuikTrip's new breakfast and lunch soft tacos are decent too.

TLO 09-05-2019 07:27 AM

Casey's also has some good sandwiches as well. Their pizza is excellent.

luv 09-05-2019 07:29 AM

Casey's pizza. Kum-n-Go and QT (we don't have QT down here anymore, but I think they do in KC) have good taquito thingies. My boyfriend actually loves gas station hot dogs after a long shift in the kitchen.

srvy 09-05-2019 07:31 AM

QT jalapeno sausage roll for breakfast is always a hit for me. They go pretty quik so my second choice is their apple fritter.

threebag 09-05-2019 07:32 AM

Casey’s does have a great pizza. :thumb:

QT hot dogs are greatly improved now that 'Chicago style' condiments are available.

Too bad they made the chili and cheese 'premium add-ons' though.

srvy 09-05-2019 07:33 AM

Also hard to beat the QT plain old all beef dog for a cheap quick lunch.

If you're a fan of apple fritters, and there's a Hurts Donuts near you (I think there's a couple up there in that area now), then go there to get one. You will thank me. I'm not a huge fan of their donuts in general, but their apple fritters are DA BOMB.

(Don't mean to veer away from talking gas station food, but just had to put that out there.)

Uncle Bud's deep fried peanuts

Jewish Rabbi 09-05-2019 07:40 AM

I like peanut M&M’s.

Living in Iowa, I'm spoiled. As mentioned earlier, I've been enjoying Casey's Pizza for like 30 years or something. Their other stuff is great too. All quality ingredients. Kim & Go has stepped up their stuff. Their pizza is shit, but their roller items are good and you can get two roller items, bag of chips, and a medium fountain drink for $4.60 or something. That's pretty good. Casey's is much better, but I'm going to spend twice as much.

Graystoke 09-05-2019 08:01 AM

Casey's pizza for sure. They also have decent Tenderloins

We have a lot of Kum & Go's and Casey's where I live and I enjoy both company's dark roast coffee, with K&G's being slightly better than Casey's. That said, Casey's is less expensive.

This is correct.

I'm still a sucker for a QT roller dog, though. Their fixin's station is top shelf. Quac, pico, sport peppers, the crazy neon relish, kraut; you can really go any direction you want as the mood strikes you.

Agreed. Once they started switching over and putting the markets in, they've gotten way better. I think it's because they have someone whose sole focus is the food instead of a cashier saying, "Oh, the items have been in the warmer for two hours too long? Here, let me nuke something fresh to put in there," after they've had to focus on ringing in fountain drinks and selling lottery tickets.

I've got two gas stations out where I live now, and they're right across from each other. One is a Casey's, and the other is an old regular Kum-n-Go. I go to Kum-n-Go for gas, Redbox, and fountain sodas, but I go to Casey's for everything else.

Buehler445 09-05-2019 08:57 AM

The Casey’s pizza here is ass.

The Hunt Brother's hunks are surprisingly good. My local Breaktime makes a morning batch of their lots o meat breakfast pizza that they add peppers and onions to. It's like an omelet pizza and damn solid.

Gas station pizza can be a home run if you find a place that does it right.

This. No better "Gas Station" food than Joe's BBQ. Casey's subs are excellent. Much better value than Subway or Goodcents -Goodcents has gotten really stingy on meats, Casey's loads it up. Quik Trip hot dogs are a good quick snack. Avoid Gas Station Sushi. At All Costs!

QT's Pepperoni pizza

tooge 09-05-2019 10:35 AM

I think you have to factor in that all of you are eating this stuff at gas stations when you are drunk, stoned hungry, or have the munchies. Otherwise you wouldn't be eating it most likely. So, perhaps it's not really as good as you think it is. In other workds, if you put it up against something you would get at a different place for a main meal, would it be just as good?

bricks 09-05-2019 10:37 AM

I go to a 7 eleven gas station in my area and usually get taquitos. So tasty especially the beef taquitos. I take them home and slather some steak sauce on them. That shit is da bomb! Oh and how could I forget the slushy to go with that? Thats a good cheat meal for me on like a Sunday. That has a good density of calories and is very cheap, inexpensive.

I interpret it as a win-win-win. I might have one this Sunday during the Chiefs game? Can’t go wrong here.

BryanBusby 09-05-2019 10:52 AM

I still like Casey's pizza, but not as much as I used to.

They've really cut back on the cheese they pile on (that was the best part by far) and the coupons they send now are aas compared to what they would send.

dlphg9 09-05-2019 10:59 AM

Casey's has pretty good subs, damn good pizza, and the chicken strips aren't too shabby. My opinion may not be the best on this subject since my only options to order food in my town are Casey's and one restaurant. Plus I have had pretty shitty taste ever since I ate this meth head, Casey's cashier's ass for a Long John.

redfan 09-05-2019 10:59 AM

Casey's also has those choco peanut butter rice krispie treat thingys, most excellent.

I will admit that when a Pizza Hut 3-topping large costs 7.99 when you order from their app and they have a drive through, it's a bit harder to justify the Casey's visit.

A thin crust w/ pepperoni, sausage and mushroom or Chicken, bacon and Jalapeno will cover lunch for at least 3 days and that's just a bargain when all is said and done...

Raiderhater 09-05-2019 11:04 AM

Ive had plenty of Bombs over the years. They are consistent in that you will always get a bite of rubbery mystery meat that you chew and chew till you decide its best to spit it out. Its been awhile but remember them fondly.
