Mahomes injury updates

Minus whale get this one started.

Patrick Mahomes Update

Postgame, Coach Andy Reid confirmed ankle sprain for Mahomes. Don't overlook this injury. By video this is not a standard low ankle sprain. This is a not a standard basketball low inversion sprain with predictable recovery.

By video this was a high ankle sprain. Albeit mild and Mahomes is obviously tough. One needs to wait for to see how much swelling occurs overnight and the next few days.

Will know more in the next few days. Expect some missed practice time and this could slow down the 2018 MVP throughout the month of September.

Discuss Thrower 09-08-2019 03:46 PM

****.

RealSNR 09-08-2019 03:47 PM

He doesn't need both feet to throw the **** out of the football.

He'll be fine.

Hammock Parties 09-08-2019 03:47 PM

If this is as bad as we might be fearing, Andy needs to be VERY cautious with Mahomes.

Empty sets need to GTFO.

comochiefsfan 09-08-2019 03:48 PM

O-Line has to be better than they were today or they’re gonna get him killed.

tyecopeland 09-08-2019 03:49 PM

Well he gets a break next week against the raiders. So that should help.

He'll be fine.

Hell, it might be good for him to have to learn to play as a pocket passer.

Actually, from what I saw, on a few plays Mahomes was:

1. Not recognizing the blitz.

2. Holding the ball WAY too long.

The OL had a few issues, but Mahomes did not do a good job of protecting himself on that field.

Discuss Thrower 09-08-2019 03:54 PM

Kind wish they had a more competent backup than Matt Moore..

Mahomes_Is_God 09-08-2019 03:54 PM

Play Shurmur/Moore against the Fade. **** it, they suck.

WhiteWhale 09-08-2019 03:54 PM

It will limit practice, but I have no doubt he'll play through it.

Even with Matt Moore, I'd feel a lot better if he'd been here more than 2 weeks.

MMXcalibur 09-08-2019 03:56 PM

No, man.
I don't need this in my life.

Somebody make Mahomes perfectly healthy forever and ever.
Somebody make this happen.

Given the Raiders have a cheapshot artist like Burfict and a bunch of guys on their rookie deals trying to standout and earn a second contract, that might be the wiser move.

mnchiefsguy 09-08-2019 03:57 PM

Mahomes did not seem concerned about it in his presser, and neither did Andy.

He will take it easy in practice this week and be ready to go Sunday.

Hopefully we can jump up 45-0 on the Faiders at halftime and he can take the second half off. :)

DRM08 09-08-2019 03:57 PM

Playcalling the next few weeks will probably be similar to what we saw the last 3 quarters of the game today. Get the ball out quick to help prevent the hits on him.

suzzer99 09-08-2019 04:00 PM

According to Dan Fouts - Mahomes will never be the same, and Minshew is now the heir apparent next great QB.

Dante84 09-08-2019 04:01 PM

Wonder if we bring Shurmur up this week as an emergency qb3.

Cheater5 09-08-2019 04:01 PM

The sky isn’t falling. It’s amazing what therapy and treatment can do in six days on a 23 year old body. And not every team can bring pressure like the Jags do—

I also believe the kid is every bit as tough as Favre.

tbh. if it's something with the potential to get worse or affect his play significantly just let him rest and heal up. raiders are trash anyways and we could sneak out a win without mahomes.

NEVER discount our blood rival. I don’t care that they are a joke, a rivalry that deep knows no boundaries - as has been proven in both teams’ favor over the years.

That's kind of what I saw, too.

He needs to recognize the blitz and alert to his hot routes, and take what the defense gives him. Far too often today, he didn't take the short ball until after his ankle was all boogered up.

I think Mahomes got greedy after the early success and started playing Madden ball.

Why if the first two MRIs didn’t show anything?

I would say the doctor is going to put him through some bending, jumping and running drills to see if there’s any sort of pain or resistance.

It's not going to be Mahomes' decision if he wants to play... because he wanted to play last week... he actually wanted to return during the Denver game.

The decision will be made by the Chiefs medical staff.

He was medically cleared to play last week too......

I'm sure it's a collective decision between him his family and the team as well.

It's probably not totally their decision either. It's based on Andy Reid's comfort level putting mahomes out there based on what the med staff believes is the risk level. Nothing will stop Reid from playing him with limited medical clearance. Except Andy himself.
