Ravens’ Earl Thomas on facing Chiefs: “I plan on eliminating all the big plays.”
https://media1.giphy.com/media/hP8xU3E27MM8w/giphy.gif
He do that, he get all the escalades... Safety Earl Thomas had his bags packed earlier this year and was expecting a jet would be sent to pick up him and his family for a trip to Kansas City. Thomas, who was a free agent, had a deal in place with the Chiefs but the Ravens made a last-minute offer so he made the switch to play in Baltimore. Now Thomas really is coming to Kansas City, along with his Ravens teammates, for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Thomas’ teammate in the Ravens secondary, Marlon Humphrey, talked to reporters this week about facing the Chiefs and some of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ big plays from when the teams met last year. Thomas was the victim of Mahomes’ no-look pass, which is ironic, because Humphrey was asked about defending it. “The no-look pass? That actually started with me last year,” Humphrey said, “but the best way (to defend it) is just be close to your man and be locked in on your man instead of the quarterback.” Humphrey was asked what was going through his head on that play. “I just kind of fell off the man and I was just running with him, but I wasn’t really looking too much at (Mahomes),” Humphrey said. “The ball came out of nowhere, I’ll say that.” Mahomes also had a 48-yard miracle pass to Tyreek Hill on a fourth-down play that helped the Chiefs stave off a defeat to the Ravens (Mahomes has called it his favorite pass). Thomas told reporters in Baltimore that he doesn’t expect Mahomes to make a play like that again on Sunday. “Luckily the Ravens have me playing free safety, controlling the deep end,” Thomas said. “I plan on eliminating all the big plays.” Ravens cornerback Brandon Carr, who played his first four seasons with the Chiefs, told reporters the defense will be watching that Mahomes-to-Hill pass all week. “It was a good play for them, like you said, you’ve got to always lock in and so that was just a reminder for us to see that on a film each and every day until game day,” Carr said. “It doesn’t sit well with you, so just 100 percent communication, guys just finishing the play You know you can never take a down off with these guys, so we’re locked in, we’re ready to go. New year, new team, see what the results will be.” Although Hill is not expected to play, the Chiefs have a stable of fast receivers in Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson. Humphrey’s father even is aware of the Chiefs’ speed. “Those are all fast guys,” Humphrey said. “My dad just sent me a text that said, ‘You better have your track shoes on this week.’” Carr believes the Ravens can step up to the challenge. “We prepare for these elite-caliber quarterbacks and this team like the Kansas City Chiefs so we’re excited for the opportunity,” Carr said. “We’ve just got to cover until the whistle blows you know, extended downs 60 minutes, so it’s gonna take just bring your ‘A’ game, bring your lunch pail, bring your hard hat. Let’s rock ’n’ roll.” https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/for-petes-sake/article235250012.html |
Ok
|
Good luck having to worry about 4-5 different guys that can make those big plays.
|
Yeah look at those second quarter long balls from last Sunday, a few of them were in tight coverage. We good.
|
Sunday Danthony Thomas has 6 catches for 186 yards and 3 TDs while the Ravens cover Watkins ,Hardeman, Kelce and Robinson
LMAO |
The best ones are the MMA fighters. We will never ever hear..."what was my manager thinking, I'm going to get killed" it's always "I'm just too good on my feet, my ground game is solid also, I'm Just too much for him"....only to get knocked out in 45 seconds.
What else can any athlete say? |

what do you expect him to say, "they're gonna burn my ass like a marshmallow"?
|
He would have been a Chief had Mosley not signed with the Jets

Everybody has a plan, until I hit them in the mouth.
|
Good plan, other teams haven't yet tried it. :thumb:
|
Wait until you have to face Hill in the playoffs asshole.
|
I plan on having a boner longer than 3 inches but reality is harsh
|
We have more than enough speed to blow by Thomas.
|
Do you guys remember how badly Earl got abused last time he played us? Jamaal Charles trucked him at one point iirc lmao.
|
Was his plan last week to let 35 year old WR run wide open?
|
Earl you're great and all....but you can't cover all our weapons. Just have fun taking one away and watching another one have a career day.
Who do you think will have their career day this game? I say Kelce. I say he has 150 yards and 2 TDs. |

Good Luck. You going to need it.

Sweep the leg Shady.
|
You should be playing safety for us right now ET. But you had to go chase the money. Not even mad at your decision, but just think of what could have been.
|
Oh man, they have the formula...
|
Good plan. Let me know how it works out, ET. :hmmm:
|
Where's the GIF of Kelce destroying Thomas?

Pick your poison.

Chiefs will need an A game on both sides of the ball. This D is still suspect especially giving up big chunks of yards.

Nice block by Kelce. |
Wait, eliminate good football?
|
Brandon Carr is 33 years old, good luck with that "tight coverage" on our WR's. There's not a defense in the league that Mahomes can't lay 28 points on. The only defense that worries me is our own in keeping Jackson contained in the pocket and limit his scrambling abilities.
|
This will be a good game. A good test.
|
Baltimore couldn't eliminate all the "big" plays against Arizona- they ain't gonna do it against the Chiefs. This year's Baltimore defense isn't anywhere close to where it has been in past years, I fully expect a shootout as long as the weather permits.

That's a great plan, Earl. That's ****in ingenius if I understand it correctly. That's a Swiss ****in watch.
|
The ravens have one hell of a secondary right now. Even better than last year. But mahomes probably improved much more than the ravens improved. He'll better recognize the coverage disguises. More importantly, if Earl wants to focus deep, mahomes will be much better at dinking and dunking than he was last year and taking whats given to him. A lesson he learned vs new England.
That being said, we have an elite qb against an elite defense. I don't know if I'd expect him to jump to well over 30 points. Our defense will need to make stops. |
Well Earl.....:)
|
Well, he did turn what would have been a 60 yard run into only a 30+ yard run.
So there’s that. LMAO |

Two tackles.
Two assists. Game changer. |
Hope the media asks him about that statement..

George W Bush is laughing at this jokers Mission Accomplished.
|
As usual....Andy gets conservative in the 4th quarter! One pass on that last drive.

Maybe he meant he'd eliminate his big plays?

This dude is an assclown. Gets after a teammate for not playing through injury yet blatantly admits to giving up on chasing down a screen so he doesn't get injured.

An assclown? |
Might as well pull this thread out of the vault. I believe Earl Thomas' words were "We'll see them again" after they lost to us earlier this year. I love Earl Thomas, wished he was a Chief, but I'm glad we've seemingly come out on top in getting Tyrann Matheiu instead.
|
Love the bump.

Awesome bump

Earl Thomas likes to talk. He should be a great guest on Good Morning Football this week...
