When should Spags be fired?
Call it an overreaction if youd like. The he was brought in to improve the defense and it's only gotten worse. Even in our 4 wins the defense wasnt better than last year for the most part.
If Booker/Lindsay go for over 180 rushing like 4 other teams have against us, and Rodgers & Co. come in and out up 30 it's time to pull the plug on this clown. |

I agree. Chance of it actually happening?

For ****'s sake

He's probably not going to be fired for a very long time.

Holy ****. Strong take, Billay

Stick to Huskers football takes.

Cmon now! It's only been 50 years you impatient bastard! What's an extra 5 or 6 years to field a mid level defense?

Won’t happen. The guy might suck but since you hired his ass, you gotta give him longer than 1/2 season.

Nothing we can do in season. If this defense is this bad the whole year and it kicks us out of the playoffs again, he has to be fired.
Don’t care if he’s a first year coach. You don’t excuses when it’s this bad. |

I’ve never overrated any of those players. You just only operate in black and white and think everybody is either great or sucks, so if I’m defending them in any way you assume that means I think they’re great. Get a ****ing clue bundle of sticks. |
He's already been fired... It's Bob Sutton...he skinned Spaggs like in Silence of the Lambs.. And is wearing his face... It rubs lotion on its skin...

Last year's defense was ranked 24th points allowed. This year's defense through Sunday is ranked 19th. Last year's defense was 31th in yards allowed. This year, 27th.
So far, despite the hot takes and emotional outbursts by some fans, the defense is statistically better than last year. And only stupid teams like the Redskins, Jets and Dolphins, etc., fire their coaches after just one year. |
The only way Spags gets fired mid season is if he's giving a Cleveland Steamer to Tavia Hunt during the National Anthem on Christmas. And even with that, they might wait till the end of the year.
This team held onto Grandpa Bob for three years past his usefulness. They won't bail on Spags for at least another two years. |

If the D doesn't improve next year he gotta go.

With a tiny handful of exceptions, a Chiefs' coach or front office member has to be a complete failure at their job for a minimum of 4 years before making a change is seriously contemplated.
Don't blame CHunt, it's in his DNA. Passed down from daddy. |

Just because I defended him doesn’t mean I loved the hire. I stick by what I’ve said. When Spags has talent, he has had success. I don’t think he has the talent here and anybody that does is out of their mind. You’re the ****ing idiot that preferred John Pagano LMAO I’m sure he’d be doing so much better with the talent at hand. |

Wait, what? I thought Veach was doing an alright job in your eyes? How is that possible when there's no talent on the defense?

At some point it's time to stop blaming the cosches/coordinators and blame the no talent pussies that actually play. I seriously doubt spaggy is telling the LBs to never meet the RB at the hole. I don't think he's saying make a tackle, but only if it's more than 5 yards past the LOS. The players suck. No scheme is gonna make the run D better.
Even though the run D is like ya know, sorta really bad, the D as a whole is better than last year. People are only bitching because the offense isn't historically good. If the offense was as good as last year, then we are 6-0. This defense is the 4th best in scoring % and 6th in turnover %. I don't know if it's on the O or ST, but they're not getting any help, because the average starting position of the opponent is ranked 21, so the opponent has the 11th best starting positionm so they are working with a short field and they're keeping the opponent from scoring a good amount of time. |

I feel the same way about Sutton. He had to go because after yet another playoff collapse, but even he was good enough when we had talent. Does Wade Phillips suck now? His defense in LA has been inconsistent at best. How about Martindale? That Ravens D lost a lot of talent and they’ve gone from the best to one of the worst. The Saints defense didn’t finally become good because Dennis Allen is a ****ing wizard. They kept building and now they have pieces at every level. Same with the Jags, Bears, etc. |
The offense hasn’t been doing the defense any favors. I still think they look better than last season.
|
Last year the defense gave up an average of something like 27 points/game. This year so far they're giving up about 20. They are better. In spite of the injuries.
|
Spags was successful in NY because the head coach was a tough, no-bullshit asshole.
Coughlin forced a Probowl running back retire young because he was so hard. Good luck getting Reid to kick a defensive player in the ass. |
I like how all of this is Veach’s fault but there was video of him saying that he asked Spags for a list of players and that included Clark.
Every guy we picked up this offseason are guys Spags said he wanted. When is he gonna take some responsibility for this shit? |

Did you see how long it took to get rid of Sutton? It's going to be a long time. Get used to him.

This year we've allowed 144. And at least four of those TDs were during garbage time. Two of them were absolute fluke jobs during the Ravens game. Look, all I'm saying is that the defense isn't as bad as some think. It's far from a finished product. But parts of it are better than last year. So while the Chiefs aren't sacking the opposing QB as often, they aren't allowing 35 and 40 points either. The run D is bad, but the passing D is better. And that's in spite of the offense giving the other team some great field position. And also several key injuries. Now, without a doubt our DTs and MLBs have been bad. But insert some new players, like a Zach Brown, Michael Pennel, or a Justin Ellis, and maybe we see some improvement there. And then maybe we get off the field more consistently. Remember, we aren't trying to put together a top-5 defense this year. Just something around 15th. Right now, we're around 19th. Maybe the Chiefs/Spags/Daly/House can figure something out. |
Spags was able to build his own defensive coaching staff and rebuild the defense in his vision.
This is 100% on Spags. |

First off, I’m not sure it’s worse. Last year’s D would have gotten eaten up by the Texans too.
Second, I think it has a lot more to do with injuries and losing Ford and Houston than Spags. Think about it. We gave away arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL and a guy who once had 22 sacks, and swapped in a dude who couldn’t get near the QB if his soul depended on it. On top of that, the only guy on the roster who CAN rush the passer is out, along with the tackles leader. God help us. |

For example IIRC the Rams were the 30th ranked defense during the year when Martz begged Bud Carson to come out of retirement. That team made the playoffs.

When does Spags take over responsibility, RIGHT NOW! Im telling you, pick up the Chiefs D if you can. This will be an ass whooping if there ever was one. This team is about to rebound in a huge way. The run will be shut down and Flacco will be close to being benched.
Doubt this D all you want but you will be wrong. This is the week we turn it around. Take that to the bank! GO CHIEFS!! |

I've not read any of this thread, but surely you give him the whole year come what may, then reevaluate in the off season.
If you fired him in two weeks, who steps in mid-season to take over? Have any of the assistants given any impression that they could step up, do you think it would be better if Andy managed the defense as well? So you're left with hiring a guy who is currently sat on his sofa because he couldn't get a job in the off season when there were tons of openings? |
Just so everyone knows the obvious, Staylor is talking out of both sides of his mouth

Sure hope we don’t watch him go to a rival and kick major ass for 10 years or so, lol. I think it’d take a flyover “SAVE OUR D” to get him out. Anyone remember Juan Castillo, the offense line coach that Andy let be the DC, lol! Imo, it’d take no less than 5 years. Reid is like LH in that he’s super faithful to his coaches. Now, a promotion within the team like Childress but this time it’s someone for the D, now we’re talking end of |
