The Chris Jones appreciation thread
Lets show appreciation to the one guy that can actually perform and make big plays every single week. The only guy that was actually a bad ass the entirety of the game and went and made a big play when it was needed. I take Chris Jones over any defensive player in the league.
|
Only player on defense worth mentioning today.
|
I'm in. Not sure I want to pay him, but I sure would give him Clark's money.
|
Jones is great and on the receiving end of a weird narrative around this place where he's constantly blamed for shit no matter what.
I give this forum 2 seasons without a superbowl before they turn on Mahomes. |
Go **** yourself 3bag.
|
7 tackles 2 Sacks 1 FF and 1 sack gifted to No Neck Frank N Beans.
|
Overrated. We need to let him walk.

I noticed a big difference in our pass rush from the GB game (no Jones) to Minnesota and Tenn(with Jones)
He's a monster Oh well. |

Our best DL is Clark/Kpassagnon Saunders/Ivey Nnadi/Pennell Jones/Oakafor Losing Ogbah probably means Jones is at end more, going forward. It’s not the end of the world. Jones is a beast and is possibly a better end than DT. |
Overall Jones had a pretty good day. Though Henry's second TD was pretty much Jones' responsibility. He didn't even see Henry, which is hard to do considering just how freaking big he is.
And the 68-yard Henry TD run, wasn't completely his fault, but he was lined up pretty wide, and after the snap he didn't slide in towards the play nearly enough. He was unblocked, and could've made the play, if he'd have closed the gap between himself and the end of the line as the play was developing. Instead, he just took a couple half steps towards the play, and when Henry cut back to the right, Jones was too deep by a full yard and not nearly close enough to make the play. A pessimistic person could say that he took the play off. I think he just didn't know exactly what his responsibility was in that spot. But he did have 7 tackles, 4 solo and of course his two sacks and TFL, which is a good day. |

You don't know what you are talking about and a pretty good day? You're raging hard on for Clark and to defend him at all costs really makes you look like a real ****ing idiot, especially when you try to down play the game Jones (our best defender by far) had because he makes Clark look like a huge pile of shit. |
Quote:
Jones was unblocked; the play was moving away from him. He should've closed the distance between himself and the end of the line. He takes two half step in that direction, but also drops himself deeper into the backfield. But he's at least 6-7 yards away still. When he realizes that Henry is cutting back, he charges forward, but Henry is already even with him, so for Jones the play is over, he's not going to catch Henry at that point. Hell, I never even blamed Jones for either play. I honestly think he isn't completely comfortable at DE. That's going to take some snaps. |
I appreciate Chris Jones!
|
We can be overly critical about his run defense, but this dude makes big plays in every game. He’s more deserving of a contract than Clark was/is. I would not be upset whatsoever if the Chiefs pay him well to stay in KC. He plays with passion and is a force.

I just realized that you may be talking about the 1-yarder, and my post was about the 68-yarder. |

Yeah, Chris Jones is a badass. You've gotta pay that due. He's an ass kicker inside while getting doubled a lot.
(If i'm reading that right). |
how tf does a chris jones appreciation thread only have two pages?
|
Wasn't there an arguement that Jones wasn't as good as Fletcher Cox? Not according to that graphic.

I have no idea how to read that, but I guess it’s good? |
Just pay the man Veach just do it. He brings pressure every single play and is showing that he will give it his all
|
all that chart says to me is Chris Jones/Clowney would have been an absolute force of a duo.

Y axis is the rate at which they're beating the OL in 2.5 seconds or less. So those on the lower quadrants aren't proving themselves as great pass rushers this season, while those in the upper quadrants are. You can see guys like Aaron Donald and Chris Jones essentially in a class of their own. They're verrrryy far right, meaning they're getting double teamed a lot, but also very high up which means they're still getting to the QB in under 2.5 seconds. Basically, Chris Jones is a ****ing beast. |

I'd like to see a chris jones highlight video n slow motion to Rufus' "Tell me something good." Feat: Chaka Khan. Also if you synch up baby shark to last weeks sunday night football intro during the carrie underwood song, its hilarious.

God I love Chris Jones. Hes a badass and seems like a genuinely good guy. Thankfully the caps going to go up up up, so we can easily pay him.
|
We better sign Jones long term
|

Watch Chris Jones about a minute into this video! What a funny dude

It would be fun to dig up all the CP posts questioning Jones' heart and commitment to the team. Very CP-fashionable for a little while.

He’s either trying to pull a Brady or he’s talking about today
|
He will be missed. No chance in hell he stays.
|
Just trade him to the NFC and get a first and more for him.
Otherwise, it’s worth being right to the cap to bring him back. |

They wouldn’t talk about that stuff today. |

The kid is on an emotional rollercoaster right now. Right after the game he did interviews about being in KC the next 10 years and having a dynasty. These guys all clearly want to stay on this team, but financial decisions need to be made to stay within the salary cap. The smart choice is hoping CJ will take a discount to keep winning titles and we keep him long term. I have NO DOUBTS that the kid would end up with a gold jacket if he is coached by Daly long term. The kid is nowhere near his ceiling imo. Gotta find a way to get a deal done.
The next best option is franchise tagging and trading Chris Jones to a team in the NFC that will give up a mid first and second for him...or a good starter and a first. |
They will tag him until the new CBA is worked out.
|
If Mahomes takes a "hometown discount" it would go a long way for others to do so too....
|
Rich Eisen said Jones told him that he would possible take a hometown discount to stay here also Tom Pelissero said the Chiefs will tag him if no long term deal if no
Is reached |
Can you link the Eisen comments about Jones? I’m sure most of us would like to hear that.

You guys want some money to spend? Fine. Get rid of all the luxury items like Watkins, Erving, Colquitt and LDT. Those guys are not critical core players. Chris is. |

Pay the man
|
It seems like we've gone through quite a few DT to finally land a keeper and we gave up on Dontari Poe because we didn't pay to keep him. I'm fine with that but we need to keep Chris Jones and more importantly he wants to be here and win Championships. This defense is only going get better and trust Veach, he knows what he is doing.

The new CBA will tell us what we can or can't do... Jones is going to be tough to keep if Patrick demands the huge deal. He has a right to do so, and it's easy for me to say, but I would take the discount like Brady did and become the GOAT... It will be very hard to do if he demands a huge amount, which we would obviously pay. We would still have a shot every year like Rodgers and the Packers but it would make it a hell of a lot tougher. Hopefully the will have a ground breaking deal that is a percentage of the cap or long term with great guaranteed money.
