Marone is DONE!

Doug Marrone C, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone has been informed that he'll be fired following Week 17's game with the Colts.

PFT's Mike Florio and the Jaguars have denied the report. Marrone's three-plus seasons as Jacksonville's coach have been largely unsuccessful, posting a 21-28 record (.429 win percentage) going into Week 17. The Jaguars have been in steep decline since Marrone led them to the 2017 conference championship. Marrone is the definition of replacement-level with a draconian style that clashes with today's NFL. If Marone is ultimately let go, the question becomes whether the Jaguars also fire GM Dave Caldwell.

I think he’ll get another year. They were 3-4-1 when Stafford got hurt. I don’t think they would have utterly collapsed like they did if Stafford was there instead of their shitty backup(s). Probably would have been 7-9ish and shown improvement headed into next season.

I get it that Doug will still likely want a coaching career in the league for the forseeable future, so it behooves him to at least try to put in the work. I also understand there are frequently known "dead coaches walking" who have yet to get an official word about their status with the team after the season, but they probably have a pretty good sense that they won't be around.

But damn... talk about deflating as a head coach. The hours and hours of work you're going to put in for a meaningless game played by a team you won't even be able to coach anymore.

They had Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay and Matt LeFleur at one time or another.

Did not attempt to cultivate or keep.

They're another org that brought in a Pats front office guy who predictably brought in a patriots crony. Can't get rid of Patricia without wholesale changes, which means convincing a Ford family that doesn't really care that the patriot way is a failure.

Seems like a lot of Browns fans online would hate this move. But we all know it's no guarantee Dorsey would want to work with a big name coach. He's certainly in a position where he has a ton of control right now. Probably be hard for him to give some of that up, but it is what got them Freddie Kitchens.

It’s crazy. If he throws 2 picks today (highly likely) he will be the first player with 30/30 in a season. Also think I read like 6 pick sixes, and 4 or 5 on the first play of the game. It’s unreal.

Glazer said Bieniemy will interview for the Panthers HC job

He should have gotten the Buccaneers job this past offseason.

Wouldn't doubt it's because of the Coughlin parcells connection. Parcells should start a cult. Unbelievable how many execs still buy into this bullshit.

It really sucks that the league allows these interviews before the post season is over.

Time for Kafka to go through a metamorphosis and undertake the trial of becoming our next OC!

If Shurmur gets canned, does Andy bring him in to be OC if Bieniemy takes a HC job?

Kind of an interesting idea. I've floated the idea that whenever Kyle shurmurs career is over, which I'd bet isn't too long, he'll be groomed to be our qbs coach at some point. Good way for Andy to get an oc you know will be there the rest of his career.

Depends. Andy might look at Shurmur and see a guy who has transformed into a hideous insect.

chiefzilla1501 12-29-2019 05:30 PM

Kinda surprised that shurmurs only 54. Still pretty young. He'll probably never be a head coach again. Seems like kc OC would be a dream for him. Imagine closing your career working for a legendary HC who mentored you, in a job that's stable as they come, working with your son in the building. Feel like if Reid wants it, he could easily get it.

Giants is probably the most appealing job.

Megatron96 12-29-2019 07:03 PM

Feel like Shurmur will get another chance at a HC job. Think he kinda got shafted in NY. Never had much of a chance to be successful this year.

I'm sure Dorsey was told to fire Kitchens or find a new job himself.

The rookie QB actually had a decent year, the lack of continuity could be detrimental.

Bring Shurmer here to be assistant HC. OC if Beiniemy leaves.
